Ross is expecting his usual surprise birthday party, owning to it being a family tradition. His family, meanwhile, talk when Ross isn't around and feel he's too old for a surprise party. Instead, Patty suggests taking him to see "The Creature That Swallowed the Earth". While eavesdropping, Ross misinterprets Natalie's planning for her bridge club party as his surprise party. When Patty takes him to the movies, he thinks it's just to get him out of the house to set up the party. Things turn chaotic.
