Solid DVD extra but not much as a standalone film

When The mighty Boosh returned for a second season the BBC went on a publicity push, as much to help with BBC3 as the show itself. I'm not sure of the success this push had because, although I really enjoyed the show, it took a colleague to put the DVD in my hand to make me aware of it. Anyway, this short black & white (not sure why) film follows Barratt and Fielding on a hatful of promotional interviews including BBC Breakfast TV, MTV TRL, XFM, Soccer AM, a Borders signing and so on.

As one of the generous extras on the season two DVD, this short film lacks the humour of the other films but is reasonably interesting as it follows the Boosh twosome on a rather punishing series of interviews and promotional pieces. Unfortunately as the camera is just following them, we don't get a lot of humour other than what they are doing as part of the interviews and nor do we get a lot of insight into the challenges of promoting a TV show – far less one like The Boosh. Saying that, it is a shame that the film didn't come at it from this angle because really how does one promote this show to people unsure if they will like it or not.

So as a DVD extra the film is reasonably good for those coming off the back of season two but as a standalone film it is hard to find a lot of value in it for anyone other than fans.
