Emotional

Warning: Spoilers
Parent/children relationships are never easy, and most of us have our difficulties as the child and as the parent.

I guess Jack realised there was no point fighting any more with Karen, and just let her choose her own path. Amid the animosity, there was a lovely moment between Jack and Karen. Norma, Wayne and Kevin watching on quietly, knowing the importance of this moment.

From the hilarity of the constant wrestling/name-calling between Kevin and Wayne, to them knowing when to sit still and be quiet when important issues are being dealt with, is something TWY does really well. And here is another great example.

I lost my dad a few years ago, and TWY episodes where Jack's importance and role as a father comes to the fore, brings me back to experiences and memories of my own dad, and how much I miss him. I guess it's only when you lose your dad that these episodes take on more meaning. No other show taps into these sort of emotions like TWY does.

I think I have something in my eye...

Jack lets go

This episode is about letting go.

It focuses on the the strained relationship between Jack and Karen. Karen of course represents the hippie culture and movement while Jack hearkens back to old fashioned days.

It is mostly annoying throughout the episode to watch Karen be the selfish C*** rebel without a cause that shes always been. We witness the back and forth battle between father and daughter but this time it may be for the last time. For me, it is difficult to watch Karen be so forthright about her obstinacy with her cold shoulder forever turned to her family. Still, the saving grace happens the last 3 or 4 minutes of the episode because we get to see Jack show some real emotion for once.

The end line is worth the price of admission.

Great writing and acting always

This is one of my favorite episodes. We see Karen and Jack finally getting both of their sides in. Jack wants to hold on to his little girl and Karen wants to leave the nest. It's a struggle for both of them.

TWY is one of the only shows that can really touch you almost every time. We've all been there in some way. The writing and the entire cast was really perfect here. The episode was clearly focusing on Jack and Karen but the rest of the cast added their own necessary parts to the story.

We even see Wayne in a more tame and understanding way.

They don't make television like this anymore, it touches your heart and soul right until you see "Bob Brush" in the end credits, you just sit back and soak in what you just saw.

Daddy's Little Girl

The relationship between Karen and Jack is a fascinating one, and despite the daughter never really being fleshed out as much as the other Arnold children, this is a good step in that direction.

As there always seems to be, there is a wonderful sweet moment at the end.
