The aftermath of Elizabeth's accident.

Warning: Spoilers
Joan Bennett once starred in an eerie film noir called "Secret Beyond the Door", and now she has secrets in her mind that she cannot remember. Somehow, she fell down the flight of stairs at Collingswood, and even though it wasn't a long fall, somehow it affected her memory, seemingly a short term memory loss at first but when Carolyn comes to visit her later, it's obviously something a little more. That's certainly a better scene for Carolyn than the one that she goes through with Joe Haskell, her ex-boyfriend from the early days of the show, with your showing bitterness over their breakup even though he is now dating Maggie Evans.

This is the most melodramatic that Joan Bennett has been in a Dark Shadows episode since its Premiere more than six months before, and she is outstanding as she shows fear over the unknown. It also shows a different perspective of Carolyn's daughter with Nancy Barrett getting to show some real worried over a mother that up to now she has been often in conflict with. There's very little as far as the Laura Collins story is concerned and the point of Laura's revenge against Elizabeth, but it is good story as far as the family dynamics are concerned.

Solid follow-up

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 156 isn't a bad one; it follows on from the shock ending of the previous one rather well, and offers a few more spooky moments. The most interesting thing about this is the opportunity for the viewer to see a side of Elizabeth other than the usual strong and savvy character she displays.
