Every year, the Efa People’s Choice Award allows film fans across Europe to elect their favorite film. When the European Film Academy invites its members, Europe’s greatest film stars, directors, actors and actresses, to attend the European Film Awards, the People’s Choice Award sheds a spotlight on the people films are made for: the audience. This year’s vote has started – vote now and win the chance to join winners and nominees for the awards ceremony in Malta!

Part of the reason is that many of the European Academy's nominated movies aren't eligible for the Hollywood Academy's awards, whether because they were in the running earlier in the year or because they won't have their qualifying Los Angeles run in time for the following year's Oscars. In fact, some may never even get that chance. Besides, it's unclear how many of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' insular members actually know about the existence of the European Film Academy. Last year's Best Film and Best Director winner, Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer, failed to receive a single Academy Award nomination despite mostly positive reviews from U.S. critics. Among those that mysteriously didn't make the list are a pair of films that played at Cannes in Romania's Tales From the Golden Age and France's The Father of My Children. The way it works is, 2000 members of the European Film Academy will vote for the nominations in the different award categories which will be announced on the 7th of November with the winners announced on the 12th of December.
