"Shivers" is a television pilot most likely inspired by the movie "Beetlejuice". It could have been funny but unfortunately some terrible writing sank this one and the networks all passed on making this a weekly series. And, like many failed series pilots, it was shown on "CBS Summer Playhouse"...most likely to help recoup some of the costs needed to make the pilots.

A divorced father and his kids move into a colonial era home in New England. Soon they realize that they have ghosts. Now up to this point, the show could have worked. But the ghosts...wow were they awful. One was a ghost who apparently in life was quite the tramp...and sex jokes come one after another. This is uncomfortable since it seemed like a family show and the family included kids who shouldn't be listening to this. Another is a hellishly annoying and gross ghost who makes Drop Dead Fred seem pretty ordinary. Gross and awful...the best way to describe him.

The bottom line is that this one could have worked had they made the ghosts interesting and not so annoying. They also didn't even try to make the characters true to the period in which they lived and tons of anachronisms betray that the writers just didn't care. Overall, an annoying mess that I am glad they never made into a series.
