barry's lost it
driogojira25 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS just finished the episode was blown away by every frame of it but reallly wanted to ask this question after seeing the ending... what the heck is barry gonna do with mr cousineau????? Genuinely felt unnerving seeing barry be at that state of mind and mr cousineau plea for his life man. Anywho i found the basis of all the characters own stories to be very captivating NOHO HANKS THAT GUY!!

But most importantly bill hader is on to some monumental stuff so that's exciting. Bound to watch it again sometime this week.

They are back on truck, i mean track
Near-L25 April 2022
The hiatus really did hurt the show but the episode was really good overall on its own and the dark atmosphere mixed with hilarius humor is still intact. I'm so glad this show is back its gonna be painful to wait every week for just 30min of it but totally worth it. Probably rewatching old seasons will be necessary cause i had no recollection of a lot of things.

Happy Days

Warning: Spoilers
I started watching Barry this year, and watched the season 3 opener today. Imagine if I saw season 2 in 2019 and had to wait three long years for the season 3 debut. It would have been worth the wait.

Curiously, season 3 makes no reference to the pandemic, although maybe that explain why Gene's acting school has been shut down.

The one-shot in Joplin was superb.

Fantastic premiere
DjDarkrai1025 April 2022
Funny, dark, and very tense episode. Barry is proving itself once again to be one of the greatest shows on television. This premiere was fantastic and I cannot wait to see what happens in the coming weeks!

If the rest of the season is as good as this episode, this season will be one of the best of all time, up there with peak Breaking Bad. Seems like this season is going to be much darker.

You have to earn for forgiveness
radhakrishnanak25 April 2022
Barry just got even darker than two seasons. In this season his characterization is like gritty, unhinged character who is ready to beg for forgiveness or put them away from their misery.

Edge of my seat
pledgerock25 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's only the first episode of Season 3 and I was already on the edge of my seat at the end. Gene is such a great character, I really don't want anything bad to happen to him. So I was pleading with Barry not to do anything stupid and thankfully he decides to show mercy and work towards forgiveness. NoHo Hank is as funny as ever and he's in an adorable relationship with Christobel which put a big dumb smile on my face. Just seeing the two of them together in bed was so cute. Fuches's days are numbered. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't make it to Season 4. Sally is becoming an unlovable narcissist and it's not a good look for her. So excited for this season.

I do NOT understand the people rating this a 5 or below. Are we watching the same show???

I Love Barry
bbevis-4795426 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Barry is a breath of fresh air. The way each episode is directed, the offbeat characters, the performances and the fast pace make for an addictive watch. The season 3 premiere was entertaining, funny and suspenseful. Sallys on set scene was a master class in direction and Sarah Goldberg's performance is great to watch. Noho Hanks first interrogation was hilarious and his confrontation with Barry has pathos. On top of that we have the suspenseful moment of Gene confronting Barry. All of this combined in one episode might feel like a lot, but it was done all so well that it's really hard for me to criticize Barry on anything. Reason being any criticism for Barry is trivial in my opinion. Despite any minor quibbles I have they're overshadowed by how well everything else is done. I really can't wait to see where the rest of season 3 is headed based off the final few minutes of the premiere.

Warning: Spoilers
Not a horrible episode, but I just don't get why people overrate this show so much. This was not anything special. Not strong storytelling, and not particularly funny either.

Good but not Great
TheKreacher2 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I really LOVE this show. The season two finale was epic. On the other hand, this chapter felt like...empty. Suddenly the characters are in the near future, and that's fine, but I would have liked to see their development to this point. It's like I skipped a bunch of episodes. At times I felt lost in the plots, disconnected. One of my favorite characters, Cousineau, here its dark and not funny at all. Another of my favorites, Fuches, does not even appear. And Barry blatantly kills again because he doesn't have a job? After two seasons where he did the impossible not to kill again? Really? I feel like this episode suddenly throws out some brilliantly executed character psychology.

Anyway, Barry seems to me one of the best series I've ever seen and I bet it's going to get better. Dispite all this, cinematography its great and it very good developed. Acting, as always, its great. It's really an amazing show.

Sorry, Barry became another Covid casualty.
rebinger-130 April 2022
It's been nearly three years since the last episode aired. I think the momentum was lost. I had a difficult time re-connecting to the storyline and the backstories of the characters. Plus, Henry Winkler was suprisingly unfunny as written in this episode. There were too many developments that felt rushed and unexplained and we were just left with a series of pained expressions on Bill Hader's face. Not really funny and it didn't inspire me to tune in to the next episode.

Get Back In...
tristan_1925 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Forgiving jeff is a great premiere, both hilarious and tragic. The comedy is at its peak, and it doesn't let go, but at the same time Barry has lost his purpose, and Gene a reason to live.

Sally has her own gig now, and the cinematography is elite. The one seemingly long shot in which she walks through the whole set is astounding. The cuts and sound effects are as great as ever, and the forgiving concept is at the forefront.

This storyline is deep and lets the audience reflect as much as the characters, and it's a good thing. Noho Hank has more fantastic scenes, once again hilarious and sad at the same time. Fuches seems to be in trouble, and I can't wait to see what lies ahead for Barry and Gene.

BARRY IS BACKKKK
liz-amin25 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finally, after almost THREE years of waiting... it feels so good to hear those drums and horns in the intro for the first time since the Season 2 finale, and boy, the premiere of S3 does not disappoint. In fact, it EXCEEDED my expectations than a normal season premiere would.

We dive right back into the aftermath following Season 2's finale, in a state where it would seem far from possible to mend things back together. Barry is in a tough spot, and seemingly almost depressed to do nothing but to kill, while on the other hand the police are trying to tie the monastery shooting back to the Chechens, only to find revelations that lead to... nowhere. And Fuches is on the run too! And not to mention Hank and Cristobal... being a real thing.

The episode is what you would probably expect from a season premiere, where it takes its time to unravel what has happened after the previous one, yet Barry's Season 3 premiere stands out on its own... and as a great one at that too. For the first episode this was a surprisingly tense one already, and if they can somehow keep the momentum and the tension established here throughout... we're about to get another banger of a season again. Possibly better.

Barry is BACK!!

forgiving jeff
lassegalsgaard16 May 2022
Yet another show that I completely binged during COVID-19 is finally back with another season that I feel happy about being able to now follow every week. (Or minus four since I missed the first few episodes.) But despite the fact that I saw the show later, I've still been highly anticipating it for two years. Now we're back with a premiere that takes us into the future a little bit and leaves us with some overhanging questions about what has happened up until now. This episode places me firmly back in this world and gave me everything that I wanted to see right away.

These writers are not afraid of putting our lead character in positions of true tension. In his own head, this season will work as redemption story for a character who have done a lot of bad things throughout the two previous seasons and will have to learn about forgiveness. The episode starts out with a brilliant scene that puts his entire mindset in the focus. Barry is still left with a lot of anger over what happened in Season 2 and it's up to him whether or not he will learn to move past it or have to deal with it head-on for the rest of his life. It also puts other characters in unexpected situations, but never loses track of who its lead character is. Despite spending a lot of time with supporting characters like NoHo Hank and Sally Reed, the show, just as it always has, works to put its lead character in the foreground and have everything add to his development. The ending gave me a scene that I didn't expect until later in the season, but I'm glad that they're not wasting time with an unnecessary buildup and play a different tune, sending us in a much different direction than I thought we we're going. I would have liked to see a little more to certain characters and see where they ended up after the last season, but I expect that to be furthered developed on in upcoming episodes. So far, I'm just happy to be back in this crazy world.

"forgiving jeff" was the perfect episode to start off this season with and it showed that the writers are still on top of their game. They understand the need to focus on Barry and his development, using the other characters and their storylines to add onto his mental problems, crafting tension for many upcoming episodes.

After a two year hiatus, Barry is back with a bang! This might be one of the strongest episodes yet. Great acting, production design and funny! Dark and intense episode with funny scenes featuring Noho Hank.

Back with a bang
m-minhaj-726 April 2022
The season premiere was excellent. It took us back into Barry's world and brought us up-to speed with all the events that have transpired since last season in just 28 minutes. It's fast-paced, weirdly funny and darker than ever before. Get ready to be sucked into Barry's world, once again.

Bill Hader
Bill Hader's direction is the star of the show here. What leaps and bounds he has taken as a director. I look forward to his further development. One shot in particular stands out I rewatched multiple times just to enjoy it.

8 is extremely high for me and it's only been 1 episode. I liked the first 2 seasons alot ( not as much as BBS) but this is wayyyy better than the first 2 episodes of that! Everything flows perfectly between them all ! I felt as if this was really filmed years ago and someone just decided to pick it up that's how well it flowed from season 2! I'm going to muss the acting classes and I am going to have to rewatch seasons 1 and 2 but so far I'm excited!

Meh...
pkhall125 April 2022
I am a big fan of the series, and it pains me to say that this first episode of the third season seemed to leave me extraordinarily flat and disappointed. It was a big build up the last episode of the second season and this just seems to take that storyline and just basically rip the carpet out from under it. Maybe it's just me, since it's been so long since the end of the last season, but I just didn't quite get where they're going. I hope to be proven wrong with the third season but so far it's a miss for me as a viewer.

Off to a Good Start
MamadNobari9725 April 2022
So I wasn't really much of a fan of the first season, because to be quite honest, I didn't see any ounce of an attempt at comedy, and I came in there expecting a dark comedy tv show, and the story itself wasn't that interesting. But when I started season 2, from the very first episode it had all the dark comedy and drama stuff that I wanted from season 1. So season 2 totally made up for season 1, and I'm enjoying the show now.

This season opener's opening is a great at throwing you quickly back into the world of Barry with a little flavor of comedy and dark.

They deal with all the characters that are left from last season and show where they are and what they're doing now, and they do a good job with it considering the short 30-minute runtime.

Barry seems to have completely lost his mind and he's seeing ghosts everywhere he goes.

I'm not sure if it was confirmed or was shown in previous seasons, but this episode firmly confirms what we all wondered about NoHo Hank. And Hank is as entertaining as ever.

Also I gotta mention that the ending scene with Mr. Cousineau and Barry was Looney Tunes level of goofiness. It really feels like plot armor, because it is, but I guess it makes sense in the world of Barry and for the character of Cousineau, and it also adds so much comedic value to the show.

All in all, it works great as an introductory episode and sets up big plot lines and consequences for next episodes. I just wish the episodes were a little longer.

Welcome back

A mix of feelings and emotions for both of us the viewers and the characters themselves. Maybe i was expecting it to be more spicy but it wasn't and thats why I didn't gave it the full mark but it was good for a premier.

S3.E1 - Pretty Good [8/10]
panagiotis199317 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Barry Season 3 Episode 1 ''forgiving jeff'' (S3. E1): Season 2 was amazing, a 9/10 from me. Let's see if this one is better or worse. NoHo is so funny, I love the interrogation scene. Fuches is in Chechnya? Damn. Cristobal and NoHo are a couple? Damn, I didn't see that coming. Barry seems to be desperate to find a job but NoHo wont give him one. Wow Gene's plan to kill Barry was an absolute failure. What a cliffhanger was that with Barry about to kill Gene? I really hope that he will not kill Gene because I really love everything about Gene, the show would be worse without him. My rating is 8/10.
