From Story to Direction to Performances to Editing everything is just messed up
Hussain-AL-Naseer15 June 2020
From the trailer film looked promising as the concept was familiar but how lollyowod would portray it made me curious with perfect lead Meera in as Baaji but film got ruined in every possible way from its writing to direction to story telling to its editing everything was just poor. Pathetic choreography which is the case of every Lollywood movie so wont blame them much about it.With everything going against the movie performances by the leads were no different, from Meera to Amna Ilya to Usman Khalid Butt everyone looked un-natural failing miserably to create emotional connection. Mohsin Abbas looked natural but again his character was irrelevant & developed abruptly. Only Nayyar Ejaz as Chand Kamal was convincing his constant old classic songs reference as according to the situation was spot on. As film industry we are already way behind the world and by this type of art work we are not going anywhere

Meera G at her natural best 😊
syed_ali-7387228 June 2019
BAAJI a worthy attempt in Pakistani Cinema good to see Meera in a proper role after 90's era and she did justice to the her role and most of the incidents are taken from her real life And whenever she comes on screen she defines that you love her or hate but never replace her she still manage to light up the scene with her presence .Amna liyas will be the next big thing in lollywood she did a splendid job OBI and DJ also did their parts quite impressive Overall nice attempt with good direction (thumbs up for Saqib Saleem ), proper acting and mediocre music ( still need more creativity) #recommended Spoiler : may be movie is little offending to the family audience 🙏

Not Bad At All and Has Unexpected Ending
kshehzad4 August 2019
American poet and essayist Christopher James Gilbert once said, "An anomaly has his own ambitions. You can try reasoning with him, but that's like using money to bribe a beast." In definition an anomaly is something which deviates from what is standard, normal or expected. Meera is not less than an anomaly for Pakistani showbiz and mainstream films. Whatever Meera does deviates from what is standard, normal or expected. Again with her new release "Baaji" she has successfully deviated from the expectations of those who are her consistent naysayers. This time she has not faltered and avoided providing an opportunity to them for cracking jokes on her colorful English and shenanigans. From her first scene to last she has given noticeable performance.

Saqib Malik who initially directed Fuzon's video "Khamaj" has brought forth his first all in all Pakistani cinematic product with "Baaji" but it may surprise a few that "Baaji" is not his first directorial venture. Few years back he has provided his services as Second Unit Director to Mira Nair's "The Reluctant Fundamentalist". This may be the reason despite of having a weak story-line, his first Pakistani film feels fresh and same time matured. Wave of revival of Pakistani film industry is all over and new directors are not willing to take risk by casting ghosts from the past but Saqib Malik must be applauded for betting on Meera as main lead. No doubt Saqib Malik has played a gamble and his gamble has paid off well. By all means "Baaji" is well crafted film and nothing seems overdone.

Amna Ilyas as Neha is Ok but two shades of her role does not justify her character archetype. In film she belongs to a lower middle class family of Lahore and works as masseuse. She is naïve, vulnerable and shy but when she comes under Meera as assistant her character takes 360 degree turn and appears to be more confident and dealing her boss Meera's financial and professional matters even clubbing like pro which is confusing. In writing less than required work been done to build relationship between her and Osman Khalid Butt. It is abruptly revealed to the audience that both are in love in penultimate stages of the film.

Osman Khalid Butt as America return film director Rohail Khan does satisfactory job. No doubt he has taken a giant leap from roasting Meera on his YouTube channel to playing as main lead opposite her in a film. Ali Kazmi and Mohsin Abbas Haider have played assigned roles like seasoned actors. But one actor who easily wins more brownie points is Nayyar Ejaz. With his mischievous acting he provides brief lighter moments to audience in such a film environment where director has seemingly restricted every actor going overboard.

Music is soothing especially song "Badlaan" excellently sung by Zeb Bangash, easily one of the best songs of this year. Cinematography is attractive, glitters every scene and editing is hasty which seems like the result of sloppy writing of some brief portions of the script. On the whole, Baaji is bearable addition in the tally of Pakistani films which is Not bad at all and has unexpected ending.

Pathetic
abidzuberi-708337 July 2019
Lots of over acting. Lots of Meera. Lots of unrealistic cheap shots. Lots of nonsense.

Complete waste of time. Please don't bother to waste your time.

MOVIE OF THE YEAR!
LollywoodLover28 June 2019
Finally, an excellent Pakistani movie. Meera G played the role of an ageing actress and she was simply phenomenal. Her expressions and her dialogue delivery was amazing. Her character in the movie did have some similarities with the real-life Meera. I hope Meera G gets all the awards this year. Acting by Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Nisho Begum, Nayyar Ejaz and especially Amna Ilyas was amazing. Amna Ilyas did a good job. I hope she becomes one of the leading actresses of Lollywood in future. Osman Khalid Butt brilliantly showcased the role of a wanna-be Lollywood director. The music was good as, they made remakes of the classical songs from old Pakistani movies. The costumes were beautiful. The movie highlighted how actresses from the old Lollywood are ignored in movies and are encouraged to do theatre instead. Most importantly, the story and direction of the movie was the best thing as, a movie without a proper script is useless. A shoutout to Saqib Malik and I hope he makes more movies in the future. My overall rating 10/10 So don't miss Baaji for your dose of thriller and suspense.

Lollywood at its best
smarif200029 June 2019
I saw Meera in chief sahab years ago and then I see in baaji. Outstanding acting by evergreen Meera and Ali Kazmi and as well as by all supporting cast Mohsin, Osman, Nayyer and new one Amna. Superb direction, nice melodious songs, superb cinematography and above all good storyline, editing and direction at its best by Saqib Malik. I saw first day first show and see many ladies in a full house show. Support Pakistani cinema and do see this movie. A must watch

An effort in vain!
qaisar-banker14 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is a mix of lots of Indian movies with a story line of Meera's life-maybe. Unfortunately, wasted my time and money again with a hope to have a good movie. The plot of movie had no complete genre. It was not a biograpgy, not a suspense movie, not a love story and hinted no good quality production or acting.

It's
wolf_pcmaster21 October 2020
Production, cinematography and general feel: The production quality of the movie is good, but not excellent. A few shots in the movie seems purposeless and a few were shot poorly whilst others look very artsy, fancy and left a little room for improvement. The dressing in the movie is excellent. Besides, you can notice that the budget of the movie was limited as you cannot see a lot of extras (people in background) in scenes where you would expect them to be there. In my opinion, it classifies as a B class low budget movie.

Story and Script: The story of the movie is weak in many aspects and the script is all over the place. There are problems with the flow of the movie in general. It seems like the movie was filmed with the first draft of the script. Also, the movie includes "over and cheesy" dialogs in Punjabi in some scenes that kills the normality of the movie for me.

Acting: Acting is really bad especially from Mera, Ali and Mohsin. They tend to overact in most of their scenes. I believe some of that is curtsy of the badly written dialogs. However, Amna and Ejaz's acting is more natural.

Music and Score: The score of the movie is fine and not noticeably poor or exceptional. Music is some what weak in my opinion as it lacks features in areas where they were essential. For example, in the party song the music has almost no base and is very flat.

Final verdict: It's not my cup of tea and I didn't enjoy it and yes, I'm saying that about Saqib Malik's movie. I wish the team had worked more on the script, story, acting and production value.

Good move by the pakistani film industry.
be-miz-030695 July 2019
Despite a cringeworthy acting by Meera the plot grips the audience with itself with alot of twists an turns. Nayyer Ejaz,Amna Ilyas,OB ,Mohsin Abbas Haider and Ali Kazmi shine in their roles. A great suspense/drama from our industry hoping for more of these movies.

Getting good but climax went sort of flat on its face.
PakistanFilmUpdates11 July 2021
Not bad for a low budget film pretty well made, the story was getting better but when the climax was getting good it left the some stuff wish could see, just info but nothing else was hoping to see more. Overall wasn't bad just hope for a bit of some polish to make it perfect.

We need more films like Baaji.
AVeryLollywoodPerson28 June 2019
I really enjoyed watching Baaji and I hope that Baaji is successful at the box office unlike Cake and Motorcycle Girl(which were amazing movies but, did not do much business). And this will also encourage more and more Pakistani producers to release their movies on non-holiday weekends as almost all the Pakistani movies release on Eid. Coming back to the movie, each and every cast member did a very good job. Amna Ilyas as Neha, was the surprise package in the movie. Amna's acting skills and grace has enhanced over the time. Meera stole the show as the bipolar Shameera. Her portrayal of an actress whose career is declining looked very realistic. And I think she gave the best performance in her career. Saqib Malik, the director of the movie is actually the real star of the movie. The direction was one of the best I have ever watched in Pakistani cinema. The story was very realistic. The movie does feel a little show in the start as the there is character development going on. However, the suspense and thrill in the second half of the movie makes up for it. Last but, not the least Mehwish Hayat as Gangster Guriya danced very well. Baaji is a must-watch in theatres.

Surprisingly Fantastic
homeworkone14 July 2019
Just came back watching a wonderful masterpiece, thumbs up to the writer & director and all actors, a treat to watch.

Don't judge the movie before you watch it

So, when I read through the reviews I wondered how could someone give 0,1 or 2 rating to this movie, just took me me minute to findout by clicking on those profiles, only to find out most of them were fake IDs and gave their first reviews or some Indians who gave 10 rating to all the other movies and gave a low rating to this one,

Wow! Now I know how to judge a movie by judging the reviewer!!

Thanks to all the low raters!!

Must watch
PichalPairi11 July 2019
It's a true depiction of Lollywood life in many ways. Mirrors Meera's life occasionally. All characters are full of life. Songs are great. Though Naheed Akhter's voice is sorely missed, it has given the iconic number, "yeh aaj mujh ko kiya hua" a new life.

Engaging
sonofrashid18 May 2021
My expectations were low because I haven't really seen meeras movie nor reemas because of what I've seen in the music videos on YouTube. But this was different as it was way beyond the assumption I have about this being a cheesy movie. The story line kept me involved, and the acting was great. Glad to see so much talent in pakistan. The music was beautiful 😻

Finally Some Fresh Concept From Lollywood
yaseenmyp22 August 2019
Fresh and new story but still something bid lacking. Sometimes such as in starting 15 mins I feel that I was watching heroine but and after this the whole movie was changed and I was shocked. Great acting by Meera, Amna, Osman, and Mohsin Abbas Haider. Amna was looking gorgeous, hot and beautiful. Superb music and dance. Great cinematography but weak dialogues and weak screenplay in the end. Good direction and best part is editing.

A Saqib Malik Masterpiece!
drnaziabashir25 July 2019
I have already watched Baaji in the cinema twice. Makes me feel so proud as a Pakistani that we are now producing World class movies. A roller coaster ride of emotions, laughs, drama, thrills and a beautiful rags to riches story. The stellar cast is a dream team who collectively created magic on the screen. No dull moment in the movie from the get go. Beautiful catchy songs and costumes make it a memorable one. Not to be missed, go grab your tickets now!

A great effort despite some flaws.
surkh22 December 2020
I was skeptical going into this movie because I did not expect it to be very good. However it kept me interested till the very end, and the storyline and plot were well thought out. The performances (or at least most of them) were very good. I realize that I'm applying a looser set of criteria here, but this movie delivers on many different fronts, like drama, intrigue, humor, and some surprises.

Simply outstanding ... emergence of sensible stories and scripts.
ramsinghghantaboley14 October 2019
I was visiting Pakistan from India and had the pleasure of watching movies in Lahore. I must say that the quality of Cinemas in Pakistan is much much superior to India, specially the shopping centers. There was no smell of alcohol and pure chilled. Baji is an excellent film and Mera acted like a Superstar. This is the first time we watched her movie and thought how much a good script and director makes the difference. WIth a death of quality script/story writer in Indian bollywood as no producer is willing to pay them now its time for Pak cinema to conquer and rule.

A spectacular performance by Meera
themalikshoaibs14 July 2019
The movie has shown the great acting skills of Meera which will be remembered for ages to come. The genre of the movie is never seen before; theatrical drama, with a very strong story, and amazing performance by all the actors, complements saqib Malik's direction. It has all the spices for all kind of audiences. It has twists and turns which are feathers in the hat. Hats off to saqib Malik for giving Pakistan a movie to be proud of and kudos to meera for pulling off her character perfectly.
