At an event soliciting investors for the development of a Toronto of the future, a waiter drops dead from poison. While questioning the organizer, Constable Crabtree learns the man is named George Crabtree, and "knew" his mother nine months before he was born. Constable Crabtree decides to get to know his father and is delighted when his father buys a publishing house to get Junior's serious book published. Effie is dismayed and concerned as the money used to buy the publishing came not from Senior's pockets, but from the funds he was raising for the city of the future. Fingermarks exclude some obvious suspects in the waiter's murder, but turn up Senior's fingermarks on the poisoned glass.
