A solid return.

A young woman from a top school is found drowned, those around her don't seem to care, and seem to be hiding something.

The last series was particularly good, I have missed it, this was a solid, if unremarkable return, it was good, it had some amusing moments, generally featuring Leonard, but it was lacking a little sparkle.

Visually it was stunning, very powerful imagery throughout, some amazing clothes, and great detail as always.

I did like Siobhan Redmond, she was wonderfully posh, and wore some very unusual outfits, she stood out.

Reasonably Good Effort

As Season 5 moves ahead, we are brought into the realm of the exclusive girls school, where a young woman is found floating in a river. When investigated, it is found that she was struck in the head before entering the water. We get into a rather sordid world of female students organizing a kind of fraternity of sexuality. It's interesting but a bit slow moving.

Episode 5.1

Well new vicar Will Davenport seems to be in full swing with Geordie.

Will is wearing a tuxedo while Geordie is on patrol as the Cambridge colleges are having a spring ball. According to Geordie it is a time of the year for increased rowdiness.

However a student from a prestigious all female college is found dead in the River Cam. No water in her lungs means she was killed and then pushed in.

Will and Geordie enter the world of secret societies and student initiations. The female ladies of the college are not all that they are made out to be by their principal.

The problem with broadcasting Grantchester when Father Brown is being shown in the afternoon at a rival channel is you can feel the difference in quality. Even if Father Brown is lower budget it is more engaging.

I found this bland, and I really thought the whole thing was dull. To be honest ITV are only making further series of Grantchester so they can sell it abroad. It was all convincing as Leonard's sun burnt from his trip to Marrakech.
