Exclusive: Ridley Scott’s Scott Free has appointed Elyse Seder as EVP and Head of Nonfiction and named EVP Marjorie Chodorov Head of Physical Production.
In the newly created role, Seder will oversee creative, talent and partnerships for nonfiction content. Scott Free has ventured into unscripted programming, most recently with the multi-part Still Missing Morgan for Hulu/ABC News this year, but the company hadn’t had a dedicated nonfiction executive or department in more than eight years. Seder’s hire marks an expansion into the arena.
Meanwhile, Chodorov will be in charge of all aspects of physical and post-production for Scott Free’s TV division. She has been with the company since 2021 as EVP Production, with her role now expanding to include nonfiction and international.
Both Seder and Chodorov will report to Scott Free’s Cco David W Zucker, President of Television Clayton Krueger and President of Film Mike Pruss.

Get ready for Bill Nye to blow your mind: The End is Nye starring the inimitable science educator will bow Aug. 25 on Peacock.
The unscripted series from Nye, Seth MacFarlane and Brannon Braga will “send Nye into the most epic global disasters imaginable – both natural and unnatural – and then demystifies them using science to show how we can survive, mitigate, and even prevent them,” according to Peacock. “Each stand-alone episode takes a hell-bent dive into the mystery and terror of one specific threat. Every catastrophe is abundant with thrills, but also offer hope and a way forward —a scientific blueprint for surviving anything that comes our way.”
The series is hosted and executive produced by Nye. Each 45-minute episode also features a brief cameo by longtime science advocate and series EP Seth MacFarlane. Peacock will drop six episodes.

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers took one huge step towards becoming NBA champions on Tuesday night.
The L.A. outfit went 3-1 up over the Miami Heat with a 102-96 victory, which also happened to be the most-watched game so far in the series. The game scored a 2.9 rating among adults 18-49 and drew roughly 7.5 million total viewers, even on the previous game ratings-wise. Those numbers are subject to upwards adjustment and while they don’t compare favorably with previous finals, it’s worth baring in mind that there are multiple Covid-19 and general TV viewership-related explanations for the league’s lower ratings in the Orlando bubble. Prior to the game, Jimmy Kimmel and the NBA Countdown averaged a 1.3 rating and 4.2 million viewers.
Meanwhile over on Fox, new drama “Next” starring John Slattery debuted to a meager 0.3 rating and 1.8 million pairs of eyeballs. For comparison, fellow freshman series...

Game 4 of the NBA Finals on ABC dominated Tuesday night in the primetime ratings, delivering a 1.9 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.27 million viewers — both numbers rising from Sunday’s Game 3. Last night saw the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Miami Heat to take a 3-1 series lead and can clinch the title Friday.
As always with live sports, those numbers are likely to get adjusted later today, but so far they are the best for this year’s NBA championship series since Game 1. Last night’s game was preceded again by ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live: Game Night and NBA Countdown, and the block gave the network the overall victory in both the demo and viewers for the night.
Fox aired its new sci-fi drama Next, which finally got its premiere after being held over from last season. Its debut fell below the premieres of the...

There was a Hell of a lot of brimstone and fire from Donald Trump last night in the first 2020 presidential debate, with Joe Biden and America both feeling scorched this morning.
Almost from the start, Fox News’ Chris Wallace went from playing moderator to nursery school teacher trying to rein in the former Celebrity Apprentice host, who seemed more intent adapting a Tasmanian devil strategy than talking policy – aka classic Trump.
Still, the near-universal criticism of the incumbent and the easy win delivered to the former VP may not burn Trump much as the ratings, which we all know he is obsessed with. Back in 2016, then-candidate Trump’s first debate with Hillary Clinton shattered expectations and records. If the early numbers are any indication, that will not be the case this time.
Certain to change in the final numbers and as more outlets are added, the first round of ratings...

Last night’s first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden was regarded as an un-watchable mess by many. And sure enough it’s on course to garner a much smaller viewership than the previous election cycle.
According to early fast national numbers for the broadcast networks, a total of just under 29 million viewers tuned in last night across NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox. That represents roughly a 35% fall from the first Trump-Hillary Clinton debate, which had over 45 million viewers at the same stage.
For comparison, the first debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton four years was watched by a total of 84 million people when all final figures were factored in. That still represents the largest audience ever for a presidential debate. It remains to be seen how far off that mark this most recent shambolic debate will be once the cable news networks and more accurate later numbers become available.

If you’re still confused about quantum mechanics after “Avengers: Endgame” (who isn’t?), don’t worry, “Cosmos: Possible Worlds” is here for you.
In the first of two new episodes on Monday, “Magic Without Lies,” airing at 8/7c on Nat Geo, host Neil deGrasse Tyson and the Ship of the Imagination will introduce you to the the man who “stumbled upon this hole in reality” of quantum mechanics and the “still-unfolding technological revolution that made it possible.” Something tells us a rat won’t be involved, but maybe they can explain time travel.

So you’re in quarantine, and you’ve got kids playing too much Roblox while the school system scrambles to put digital learning in place. Even for families with experience educating at home, it can be a daunting task coming up with learning experiences to fill a student’s day, especially with most public libraries closed during the Covid-19 crisis. While television is not the cure-all for the problem, a nice educational program, perhaps one that includes instructional materials, could be just the thing to fill in the instructional gaps and give flustered parents a little break from playing teacher.
We’ve listed here our favorite educational television program in each of the main subject areas: math, science, language arts, and social studies. Most of these are available via PBS and are often presented along with materials for follow-up lessons. There’s obviously a lot more out there for the...

Nat Geo’s “Cosmos: Possible Worlds” continues its long-awaited third season with two more awe-inspiring episodes on Monday, including an untold story behind our trip to the moon.
Starting at 8/7c, the seventh episode, “The Search for Intelligent Life on Earth,” will reveal the hidden underground network of four kingdoms of life, telling a true first-contact story between humans and, as the network describes, “beings who communicate with a symbolic language and have maintained a representative democracy for tens of millions of years.”
At 9/8c, the eighth episode, “The Sacrifices of Cassini,” will focus on the never-before-told story of a scientist who made the Apollo program possible while fighting in World War I, when he wrote a letter addressed to readers 50 years in the future. The “Cassini” of the episode title is a robotic explorer ordered to self-destruct on another world.

Many credit Carl Sagan's unique vision of space exploration as the source behind the award-winning 1980 television series "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage," but the producer of Nat Geo's revival of the beloved show, "Cosmos: Possible Worlds" says Ann Druyan, Sagan's widow is the brains behind both shows. CineMovie sat down with "Cosmos" creator, writer, director and executive producer Druyan and her partner Brannon Braga to talk about the show's second season on Nat Geo and Sagan's legacy.
