‘Paging Mr. Darcy’
Professor Eloise Cavendish (Mallory Jansen) is a Jane Austen scholar invited to give a talk at an annual conference about the famous author. But the event combines serious scholarship with fandom, and Eloise isn’t sure how her work – which focuses on the role of money, not love in Austen’s novels – will be received. Nor is she impressed when she meets Sam (Will Kemp), the event’s official Mr. Darcy. But Eloise and Sam soon discover that they have more in common than they first thought.

With Emma and Sanditon making waves (seaside resort pun!), we're listing up the best screen adaptations of Jane Austen's work.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that every Jane Austen novel must be adapted an infinite amount of times and we will be grateful for all of them.
There have been a lot of adaptations of Jane Austen's six major novels and some of her other works, including the recently-released Emma starring Anya Taylor-Joy. These are the ones we recommend watching.
Best Pride and Prejudice Adaptations
Easily the most adapted of Jane Austen's works, Pride and Prejudice is a foundational work in the broader romantic comedy genre and in so much of our mainstream storytelling. People tend to have opinions about which of the P&p adaptations are the best. (Who is the best Elizabeth? Who is the best Darcy? Which is the most faithful? Does it matter?...

Sleepy Hollow alum Tom Mison, Frances Fisher (Titanic) and Jacob Ming-Trent (Superfly) have signed on to the cast of Damon Lindelof’s HBO Watchmen pilot, a take on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic limited comic series. They join previously cast Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard.
Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own. As Lindelof recently noted, the project is not an adaptation of the 12 issues of the comic but an original story that remixes them.
As has been case with all Watchmen castings, no details about the actors’ characters are provided.
Lindelof, who wrote the script, executive produces the pilot with Nicole Kassell, who is directing, Tom Spezialy and Joseph Iberti. Watchmen is produced...

The love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy has been told again and again onscreen, and each adaptation has in its own way addressed themes of class, social etiquette and romance that Jane Austen wove into the 1813 classic, Pride and Prejudice. But now Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, in theaters Feb. 5, introduces a whole new slew of themes: the undead, for example, and martial arts and lots and lots of blood and gore. The film has Cinderella star Lily James playing Elizabeth, who in this version just happens to be leading a small army of sword-toting society women in...

Charlie Lyne's documentary Beyond Clueless harks back to the classic teen movies that shaped the '90s.
Featuring narration from The Craft's Fairuza Balk (and with clips of Robin Tunney, Devon Sawa and co), it made us feel a sudden pang of nostalgia and sent us on our own trip down memory lane to find out where they - and the rest of the '90s teen movie crew - are now.
So, here are 11 stars from some of our favourite '90s teen movies, and what they've gone on to do since:
1. Devon Sawa - Idle Hands (1999)
Dreamy Devon Sawa starred as lazy stoner Anton Tobias - who turns mass murderer after his hand becomes possessed - in the horror comedy Idle Hands.
He went on to play teenage prophet of doom Alex Browning in Final Destination (2000), and appeared as similarly unstable Stan in Eminem's controversial music...

As If: 10 year retrospective of the cult Channel 4 teen drama - part 1
The sad fact with As If, is that it is almost impossible to track down today. The show has never been released on DVD, due to a copyright issue with the music. Without the music, it simply wouldn't be As If.
"Given the choice between no music so we can release the DVD, I'd choose the music," said Caroline Chikezie (Sasha). "They used to say the music was the seventh cast member, it was so important. It just took it to a whole new level. I guess it's worth not having a DVD release just to keep the music."

It's a truth universally acknowledged that a person in want of a good project will adapt Pride and Prejudice-if not always to dazzling effect. The latest take, a two-part miniseries called Death Comes to Pemberley, premiered yesterday on PBS. And if there's anything P&P fans like almost as much as Austen's book, it's consuming and then critiquing the various interpretations of it. Which is why we're taking this opportunity to rank 13 different iterations of Pride & Prejudice, from the best (the 1995 miniseries starring Colin Firth is a nigh-untouchable high point) to the significantly less great. 1. It's been over two years since filmmaker Nora Ephron passed away. The director of films like Sleepless in Seattle and writer of When Harry Met Sally was one of the best known female filmmakers in the business. When Ephron left this world, she left behind in incomplete screenplay. As we reported in 2011, she was working on bringing a big screen adaptation of Lost in Austen, a British mini-series which is essentially a modern, time-traveling take on Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Now that film may see the light of day as The Wrap reports "Portlandia" co-creator Carrie Brownstein will now finish the script. For those not familiar with the British series, here's the official synopsis: Amanda Price is sick of the modern world. She yearns for the romance and elegance found in the books by her favorite author, Jane Austen. But she's about to get a rude awakening as one fateful evening,...

Today it was announced that Portlandia's Carrie Brownstein will be brought on to finish Nora Ephron's adaptation of the British mini-series Lost in Austen, which the late writer and filmmaker had been developing as a feature film for Columbia Pictures. It is not — as Brownstein's involvement might portend — a typo of Lost in Austin, which is a premise we hope to see rendered on an upcoming episode of Portlandia.

One of last year’s very best new series was Starz‘s Da Vinci’s Demons. Starz agreed with that assessment and awarded it a second season almost immediately. We haven’t heard much about that second season since Starz released a trailer and some pics back in October.
But the wait for more is over. Starz has now released a really excellent “closer look” trailer, along with a press release and premiere date. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 22 at 9/8c and the nine weeks that follow. If the new and former trailers below are any indication, we have a lot of great Renaissance TV coming our way again this spring.

"Ichabod is the hardest part I've played," Tom Mison, star of the freshman fantasy-drama "Sleepy Hollow," airing Mondays on Fox, tells Zap2it. "There's so much that we need to balance with him. To slightly veer in any one direction a little too much, and it will collapse."
"Sleepy Hollow" can be described as a combination of author Washington Irving (in particular, his stories "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle"), the film "National Treasure" and the biblical book of Revelation.
Mison's Ichabod Crane was a spy for Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War, when he beheaded the Hessian Horseman and apparently perished. But, he survived and slumbered underground for over two centuries, only to emerge in present-day Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.
Stalked by the now-Headless Horseman and facing a variety of deadly supernatural forces, Ichabod has partnered with local police Lt. Abby Mills (Nicole Beharie...

Juliette chats to Atlantis actress Jemima Rooper about what to expect from Medusa in the new BBC One series...
You might know her from Hex, Lost in Austen or perhaps as George from the 1990s adaptations of The Famous Five, but this autumn Jemima Rooper will be appearing in a rather more exotic role, as the soon-to-be cursed Medusa in BBC One’s Atlantis. We met her at the set to quiz her about what we can expect.
When we first meet Rooper’s Medusa on screen, she won’t yet have her famously dangerous barnet of snake-hair. “She comes into the lives of the three protagonists and has a lovely romance with one of them… unless the curse sets everything off on a completely different course,” Rooper tells us. “I now know how the curse comes about and what happens, but we’ve yet to film it.

Are you prepared to embark on a journey... to Atlantis? After much anticipation, BBC One's new family fantasy drama - touted as a replacement for the wildly popular Merlin - finally debuts next Saturday (September 28) on BBC One.
On a trip to the show's set, the Week in Geek got the inside scoop on what to expect from Atlantis - think romance, bromance, magic and monsters!
Jack Donnelly (Jason)
Leading the cast of Atlantis is House of Anubis actor Jack Donnelly, who plays Greek hero Jason - a newcomer who shakes things up in the mythical kingdom that he now calls home.
"He comes into this world as an outsider - he meets Pythagoras and Hercules and they become the first good friends he ever has," Donnelly reveals. "He learns more about himself through those friendships."
Jason may be our hero, but he's not perfect, as Donnelly explains: "He's got...

And in today's second installment of "crushing on Mr. Darcy to an insane and ultimately unhealthy degree," we have the trailer for Austenland, Keri Russell's costume comedy about a girl who goes to Jane Austen Immersion Camp. It's like Lost in Austen, that BBC miniseries you watched on Netflix and swore you'd never tell anyone about, but with a Ren Faire (George Faire?) component. And Jennifer Coolidge. And a British guy who looks astonishingly like Tom Hiddleston but is not, in fact, Tom Hiddleston. Anyway, if you can't make it to the statue, maybe this will do? (Or just wait for Darcy and the Real Girl, in which Keri Russell marries the Mr. Darcy statue and all of London plays along.)...

Matthew Rhys ("The Americans," "Brothers and Sisters"), Matthew Goode ("Watchmen," "Burning Man") and Anna Maxwell Martin ("The Bletchley Circle," "Bleak House") are set to play older versions of the characters made famous in Jane Austen's "Pride And Prejudice".
The trio has been cast in Origin Pictures and BBC1's three-part serial adaptation of the acclaimed 2011 novel "Death Comes To Pemberley" by iconic crime writer P.D. James ("Children of Men," "Death in Holy Orders").
The pastiche serves as a kind of thriller-oriented sequel to 'Pride' and is set six years into the marriage of Elizabeth Bennett (Martin) and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy (Rhys). Goode will play the now older version of George Wickham.
When Elizabeth’s wayward sister Lydia arrives for the annual ball, she brings a shocking halt to the proceedings and a murder investigation unfolds a web of secrets that threatens everything.

Earlier this year, the Week in Geek posed a big question - in the wake of Merlin and Being Human both departing our screens, was demand for sci-fi and fantasy television in decline?
The conclusion I came to was a resounding 'no' - one era of cult TV was ending, but another was just around the corner, with the likes of BBC One's Atlantis and BBC Three's In The Flesh both gearing up to launch.
So last week, I asked Digital Spy readers to vote on which cult TV event of 2013-14 they were most excited for - below are the results of the poll, plus a few bonus suggestions from cult-savvy commenters...

While the da Vinci depicted in the history books was renowned for his works of art and inventions that included the calculator, army tank, diving suit, solar power, and many more, “Da Vinci’s Demon’s” depicts a 25-year-old da Vinci (portrayed by Tom Riley, Return to House on Haunted Hill, "Bedlam") on the cusp of greatness, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman. In the series he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time, tortured by his unsurpassed intellect. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

"Da Vinci's Demons" premieres on Friday, April 12 at 10 p.m. on Starz after the climactic "Spartacus" finale, leaping forward more than a thousand years from the bloodstained sands of the Roman Republic to the flourishing streets of Florence, to discover a historical figure who is even more iconic, and even more shrouded in mystery.
Many of us know Leonardo da Vinci as an inventor, an artist and a figure who earned Dan Brown a lot of money, but popular culture tends to view him as a wizened old man, thanks to a supposed self-portrait that may not even be his. David Goyer (writer of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy and the upcoming Superman reboot "Man of Steel") aims to dispel that image with his "revisionist" take on the untold life and times of da Vinci, blending extensive research with "historical fantasy" to present a version of the icon that has never been seen before.

Offering a swashbuckling approach to telling the tale of Leonardo da Vinci, inventor and scientist extraordinaire as well as a visionary long before his time, the new Starz drama series Da Vinci’S Demons has the look and feel of a pirate-adventure tale. Da Vinci is not just a hero that romances the ladies and dashes about with eternal optimism and cheeky confidence, he is an unwilling pawn in a very nasty game of politics between the Roman church and the royal powerbrokers looking to upset the political balance in their favor. Politics, religion and science – it is the makings of a cataclysmic collision of conflicting interests. Yet that makes for rich storytelling and drama.
Marvelously cast as Leonardo Da Vinci is the enthusiastic Tom Riley (who Austenites may recognize as Mr. Wickum from the British mini-series “Lost in Austen”). Adding the decorative and deviousness to his world are the ladies of his life,...
