Generally a nice story but for what it was about it was definitely too long, it could have been like many KDramas and produced in 16-20 episodes and been a bit more enjoyable.
Even though the guy gets the girl in the end, I would resist calling this romantic. In all the 40 episodes the few times they had any serious contact to be called romantic is very very little.. it borders on a love story that fortunately in the end is not unrequited so it's nice to see they will end up together.
Not to be too unfair or negative, both the ML/FL were good (I liked the FL better playing it cool but not arrogant) and as the ML, he played his character well. It's my first time seeing him so I'm not use to him or his style so I did not like (but did not hate him either) I just accepted him as the character he played.
It was good to see the last episode wrapped up the other character couples like Wu Shiyi's mother and father getting together in the end.
Unsurprising couples at the end were Qian Qian and Hou Joe's dad, Hou Zhi Rong.
Also with Hai Xing seeing with his arm around Wawa at the end at Wu Shiyi's birthday celebration where finally Hou Jue proposes to Wu Shiyi and she accepts.
It would have gained more stars if they did this earlier and continued the happily ever after story for 1-2 episodes more to show their happiness and life together.
Over all just a nice story but could have developed into something more so don't expect too much in the way of romance or love (not at least from a western perspective).
There are no soft delicate (or intimate) kisses or hugs, there's no tender touches etc to give you more a connection of feeling, longing for each other.
For me, I was left a little wanting in the end. While I enjoyed it this time, for the happy and fun moments, I won't watch it again.
Unless you like really long drawn out stories I would say think about how long it will take to watch this. A small saving grace is that each episode is only ca 45mins long. If it was an hour / episode I would have only given it 4 stars.
Sadly I admit towards the end it got a bit uninteresting to the point where I ended up f/fwd through some bit that got tedious.
So I hope the commentary proves a little interesting and sorry if it disappoints those that liked, it just didn't meet my expectations after watching trailers and seeing some reviews.
