Morecambe and Wise's Best Show Ever

Warning: Spoilers
I think 1971 was their best of Eric and Ernie's Christmas Shows for BBC 1. There must be very few people who haven't seen the hilarious Grieg's Piano Concerto sketch where Eric infuriates Andre Previn and plays the concerto so badly causing the orchestra to stop, telling an irate Previn, " I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order". It is a highlight of a fantastic show that features Shirley Bassey being bombarded with smoke when she sings " Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" and Eric threatening to resign from the BBC and go back to ITV.

Other shows are good, but 1971 seemed to be the breakthrough show for the BBC, and saw Morecambe and Wise become so popular that their last BBC1 show attracted 28 million viewers in 1977( over half the population).

One of, if not the best

Warning: Spoilers
Although there had been Morecambe and Wise Christmas Specials since 1969 this was the first 'big' one, with clearly a bigger budget being set aside for old Hollywood style dance numbers and guest stars.

This is my favourite special the beloved comics produced for the BBC, as it contains so many memorable moments. I don't think there's a dud sketch in there.

From the Glenda Jackson dance number, to Shirley Bassey and of course 'Andrew Preview', this is a joy from star to finish.

I also really like the 'Robin Hood' play wot I wrote, purely because you can see all involved being silly and having a wonderful time.

A great 'Special'.
