We chatted to actor Rory Kinnear about his roles in Sky Atlantic's Guerrilla, Bond, Penny Dreadful and more…
In Rory Kinnear’s first answer during our chat about his role in Sky Atlantic drama Guerrilla, he makes a wry joke at his own expense. He’s not a well-known actor, he says, and perhaps not one with “a particularly heroic face!” he laughs when we talk about the moral complexity of his roles. Give him an outright compliment and he deflects the praise elsewhere, onto writers and directors, John Logan for Penny Dreadful, John Ridley for Guerrilla. His role as Bill Tanner in the James Bond franchise is a “very, very small” part of an enormous machine, he stresses.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, whose The Salesman is nominated for this year's best foreign-language film Oscar, told about 10,000 protesters in London on Sunday that global opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s travel ban was key to empowering people to fight oppression everywhere.

As voters hover over their ballots, which are due February 21, the Best Foreign-Language Feature category presents a dilemma that’s unique to this year. Traditionally, many don’t vote in this category unless they’ve seen all the films. While the Academy sends links as well as screeners for all five nominees, it’s an honor system.
No one’s asking them to do anything differently now, but this year they may have a different reason to vote. Three out of the five documentary short Oscars focus on fallout from the Syrian conflict, as does documentary feature “Fire at Sea.”

The film’s director Asghar Farhadi is boycotting the Oscars in protest over Us immigration policy.
Oscar-nominated Iranian film The Salesman will be screened in Trafalgar Square for free to demonstrate London’s “openness to the World”.
The film’s director Asghar Farhadi has already said he will boycott this year’s Academy Awards over Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration, which restricted travel from seven predominantly Muslim counties, including Iran.
The open-air screening will take place on 26 February, the same day as the Oscars, and has been organised by London mayor Sadiq Khan, actor Lily Cole, producer Kate Wilson and film-maker Mark Donne.
Khan told London paper The Evening Standard: “Londoners have always prided themselves on their openness to the world, and what better way to do that than to come together to watch this powerful film in one of the world’s most famous public spaces.”

The whole world seemed to give a collective sigh of both sadness and relief when J.K. Rowling penned her last line in the Harry Potter series. That sigh was repeated four years later in 2011 when the last Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, hit theaters. They were both ends of eras, and for many fans, marked the end of a childhood journey.
However, despite any sadness we may have had, many of us knew that Warner Bros. would be revisiting this world somehow. We didn’t know when or in what capacity, but it was too big of a cash cow to let it simply die off without a fight. So how did this film come to be?

Producer David Heyman may be competing with a couple others like Spielberg, Lucas and the Broccolis to be considered the most successful movie producer ever, but he’s somehow found that success from his cozy home in England without having too much interference from Hollywood.
Of course, it helps when you’re the producer behind the hugely successful Harry Potter movies that have grossed over $7 billion worldwide, but Heyman had similar success bringing the children’s character Paddington to the screen, as well as shepherding Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi epic Gravity to its $723 million global box office and seven Oscars.
So let’s just say that when Harry Potter author Jk Rowling decides that she’s going to write a screenplay based on her character Newt Scamander and his book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, it takes a producer like Heyman to make that movie happen… and to...

"V for Vendetta" has only come to look more prophetic in the decade since its release on March 17, 2006.
The adaptation of the Alan Moore/David Lloyd graphic novel, starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman as a vengeful anarchist and his protege fighting a fascist government in a near-future England, proved to be the biggest critical and commercial success for producers the Wachowskis since "The Matrix." It also popularized the Guy Fawkes mask that has been a favorite of real-life protesters worldwide.
As iconic as the movie became, "Vendetta" ran into numerous obstacles during its production -- and many controversies upon its release. Here are ten things you need to know about the fan-favorite.

London’s famous Trafalgar Square was given a facelift recently as it welcomed Warner Bros. and Patty Jenkins’ hotly-anticipated Wonder Woman to town.
As Diana Prince’s origins story is a tale set to be told across three different time periods, today’s trio of set photos feature Gal Gadot’s Amazonian warrior donning period garb as she partakes in what looks to be a military homecoming – or indeed some form of celebration – staged by the British army. Could this be from the closing scenes of the film?

What we know for sure is that Wonder Woman will feature a segment from World War I, where Gadot’s heroine meets Chris Pine’s soldier and love interest Steve Trevor. Fans have also spotted Diana Prince’s friend Etta Candy (Lucy Davis) among the crowd. Other cast members in Jenkins’ standalone movie include Robin Wright,...

London’s Trafalgar Square is one of the most iconic locations in the world. For that reason alone, it makes sense that it would be a great location shoot for DC's upcoming Wonder Woman. While the area was closed down for hours yesterday for filming, that hasn’t stopped a number of fans from being able to get their own footage of the event. Check out some images from the film and join in the World War I era celebration. While the creator of this video doesn’t know why World War I would be part of Wonder Woman, it can only be because he doesn’t read Cinema Blend. We know that a large part of the film will take place during the First World War. While the earliest days of Wonder Woman from the comics usually focus on World War II, ...

The alarm clock cries in my bedside table. 8am. Right, here we go. Grab clothes for yet another day, don’t forget the body soap, the moisturizer and the black mascara and off I go to start my daily ritual lively practiced inside my tiny toilet. Repetitive motions are evoked…teeth are washed, hair is brushed, boot laces are entwined around my unreliable feet, eggs are scrambled in the tormented pan, coffee is brewed, lights are shut, doors are locked, and a cigarette is delightedly lit—all as if I was skimming through the prologue of a novel I have lazily read too many times before. My feet move to the rhythm of the rain incessantly falling on the grey pavement and my bones fear the unpredictability of what may come in the following hours, but I never stop. I never do. (…) The ritual has somehow turned into tradition and...

The antics of Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth, who were allegedly allowed out to cavort with the masses on Ve night, are presented as tame, trivial and sexless
Politically speaking, this may be as totemic a film as The Full Monty was in 1997. Another from this year’s pretty rote heritage-cinema crop, Julian Jarrold’s costume romp takes the much-chewed titbit about the young Princesses Margaret and Elizabeth being let out of Buck House for a few hours on Ve night as the basis for an essentially silly, trivial runaround. The result is 50% flagwaving, stocking its replica Trafalgar Square with by-the-yard bunting and extras, and 50% galumphing big-band score, with a brass section that parps breathlessly whenever we’re meant to find something amusing.
