I've seen this episode many times over the years but it still makes me laugh. It probably always will!

S5: Enjoyably silly season with consistently good episodes
bob the moo25 October 2015
It had been quite a while since I watched season 4 of this show – although it is not really one you need to watch close together to follow the plot, since there rarely is one that lasts longer than 10 minutes (if that). Having said that tough, this season does open with several episodes where Carl Brutananadilewski is trying to sell or lease out the house next door on behalf of landlord Markula, who has used military spiders to cocoon the previous occupants in the Mojave Desert due to non-payment of October's rent (due in turn to the undead Markula refusing to fix an active gas leak).

Ignoring the Boston episode (which was not screened in the end) this does mean that the opening few episodes rely almost totally on Carl, and to be fair this works better than I expected; I'm not a great fan of him as a character, but the humor and his use within it does work. Soon Master Shake etc are back from the desert and back next door, and from here the plots are the usual mix of very odd happenings which the team get involved in, normally ending in their partial or full destruction. So for example, a penis enlargement device leads to the resurrection of Meadwad's many dead pets, few of whom are happy with the fact that they died by Shake putting them in a microwave; this is a fairly typical plot although not all the devices are as strong. Generally though this season does have stronger episodes, with only a few not really working as well (Marines was perhaps a bit too 'standard' in content and approach – or at least, by the norm for the show it was).

It is not a season that will win over new fans perhaps, because at times the episodes are just relying on the characters we already like, doing the things that we enjoy watching them do – so nothing new but still fun if you like it. Mostly though, the season is above that base level and it is better for it, making a consistently enjoyable season across the ten episodes.
