'The Office' meets '300'. . . just not very good
Shattered_Wake2 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
The film itself, '305,' is not a bad concept. It might've even gotten a bit more of budget had the other '300' spoof 'Meet the Spartans' not been released months prior.

It's done as a mockumentary-style film, like 'The Office' (complete with Michael, Dwight, and Jim knockoffs), of the five misfit guards of the 300 Spartan army that fought the Persians (as we saw '300' and other films). These five (hence the '305') didn't make the cut for the first 300, as they're either overweight, or blind, or scrawny; so, they're sent off ('five miles in the opposite direction,' as one of the five says) on simple & stupid errands and duties, like protecting some goats.

Sounds like it could be really funny, right? Well, it wasn't. Yeah, at first, there were some laughs from the sheer ridiculousness of the idea. . . but, it didn't amount to much more than a few chuckles throughout.

As a play, it might've worked well. As a film. . . it simply was not worth it.

Final Verdict: 4/10

30 minutes of my life....wasted!
Shawn_peace13 August 2008
i'm sorry but i have truly felt that i have wasted 30 minutes of my life plus $3.50 renting this movie. after that 30 minutes, i couldn't continue on watching it. the humors in this movie are very simple, good laugh for the little kids, maybe this movie is designed for the little kid. the 300 spartan died because 5 spartan fail to guard the goat pass? then they went off and open up a restaurant? still wearing their spartan uniform while hiding their identity? and then went back around to defeat the whole Persian army? i am confused. how much does it cost to make that movie again? 50k? i think i can do better with my digital camera. maybe a little editing, but what IS the point of this movie?

Actually worse than you might imagine
kthoran29 June 2008
Just what the world needed... another "300" parody only this time make it extra lame.

This particular one is not nearly as funny or interesting as "Meet the Spartans" which was actually a very fine and comical parody of "300".

This version almost seems intent on being bad with the "five extra lost" Spartans being seriously un-Spartan-like and yes, even a special-ed kid would get that, but come on... who finances all these crappy movies? Avoid this stupidness like the plague, unless you liked "Hottie or Nottie" in which case, don't rent but buy the DVD. Everybody else can just say no.

It doesn't get any worse than this

Warning: Spoilers
If you thought MEET THE SPARTANS was the worst 300 spoof out there, you haven't seen 305, an even cheaper and much, much lamer rip-off. The story sees five chubby guys standing in front of a green screen throughout, sharing supposedly comic banter that'll have you wanting to pierce your ear drums within minutes of this inanity beginning. The plot is supposedly about five extra Spartans tasked with defending a goat path against the enemy. It's terrible, truly terrible, indescribably so in fact.

laugh out loud
nitsua1251 July 2008
I just saw this movie and i loved it, first of all its very low budget. The whole thing was done on a green screen and although it may sound rubbish the overall effect is really good.

The main characters are 5 pretty crappy Spartans who weren't at Thermopylae, instead they were given the task of guarding the secret goat pass, which they fail to do resulting in Leonidas and the 300 dying. They then become the laughing stock of Sparta and now Claudius, Darryl, Demetrius the Blind, Shazaam and Testicleese have to go on a heroic journey to show themselves as true Spartans with no weapons and no brains. Just the desire to prove themselves as warriors.

Its a great comedy with loads of laugh out loud moments and a really hot girl. It has a big internet following and a growing amount of fans. Well worth watching in my opinion.

A nice deviation from the rest of the 'Meet the Spartans'
asher1367 July 2008
In a horrible era of 'Meet the Spartans', 'Epic Movie' and 'Scary Movie 30', there is a flick that finally pops out of this pop-culture clusterbang that doesn't rely on other people's success and good writing. This flick is told almost like 'The Office', where all the characters are being interviewed as well as looking directly to the cameras. It is shot almost entirely against a green screen, with the backgrounds looking like something from Castle Wolfenstein, but the acting and stories are surprisingly good for a movie that has its roots in youtube super stardom. Surprisingly original, ingeniously written, and full of hilarity. Check out this flick if you're also sick of all these remakes and pop culture regurgitation.

Ridiculous, out-there, funny
mtown161 July 2008
This movie surprised me a lot. At first glance I was like, hell no not another 300 parody and almost didn't download it but I was bored and decided to give it a go.

Cheesy effects, desert-dry humour and ridiculous setups but it all sort of works together. It has some big, genuine laughs and makes an attempt at telling jokes unlike other parodies of today. And, the girl in it is really hot, which definitely helps. Be warned: this is a low budget movie so don't expect a polished, studio production, but in some ways it works for this movie. Give it a chance, don't take it too seriously and you'll have a good time.

The office Spartans
movieman_kev7 August 2008
305 tells the story of the 5 misfit Spartans who didn't make the cut due to them being too fat, blind, or just idiots. When they get a little overzealous and run off to fight some Persians, leaving the goat road they were tasked to watch unattended, the Persians make short work of the 300 and the 5 misfits are on the run. This spoof of both "300" as well as "the Office" was funny enough, for the most part, and I enjoyed it immensely more than the completely cinematic excrement that was "Meet the Spartans" despite the extremely low-budget of this film. Hey here's an idea, give the makers of THIS film $30,000,000 and let the extremely untalented duo of Friedberg and Seltzer have to scrounge up pocket change for Their so-called 'films'

My Grade: B-

DVD Extras: 2 Commentaries (one for the actors & one for the directors); the original 305 short; A making of; 'the lost interviews'; 3 deleted scenes; Cutting Room Floor; On the Road with the 305;Visual Effects Featurette; and Trailers for "Moola", "Niagars Motel", "Raising Genius", & "See this movie"

You know you shouldn't, but you laugh anyway.
I beg anyone who doesn't plan on seeing this because of the low budget to reconsider. If one wished to compare 305 with other parodies of 300 one would probably find that this film comes out on top.

The special effects are of coarse not the typical FX that you would find in a high budget film but they most definitely help make the movie what it is... a silly, well made (taking the budget into account), and for lack of a better phrase, "stupidly funny" film.

Another tip for whomever is reading. If you like the TV show 'The Office' and it's quick and perfectly timed humor, you will find a lot in 305 to your liking and at least appreciate the film for what it is, a silly film that makes you laugh even though you know you shouldn't.

Actually quite funny and very "B"
stormruston5 July 2008
This was a very funny movie and I think it was done with tongue in cheek. It is of course a semi mocumentary of the movie 300 but with a few twists. These five guys were suppose to be watching the goat path. They left their post and craziness ensues.

The actors are not taking themselves seriously and are just having fun. It shows and makes the movie sort of charming along with funny and amusing.

No budget, no special effects but well acted and well written. for what is is...it is way above the norm.

Compared to equivalent budgeted movies this thing is a blockbuster!

A 305 out of 300
stoop40426 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This is an incredible film which looks like it was made with a 50k budget. This movie uses verbal humor throughout the entire thing which is very difficult these days with CGI and huge stunts. This movie takes a great story line (300) and combines it with the hit show The Office, although you can see direct character similarities in some of the 305 cast with those of The Office, but this film is so smart and proves that you don't need a $100,000,000 budget to make a funny movie. Surprisingly the green screens that they used in this movie turned out pretty well for the most part. This isn't a film makers movie, but this is a film writers comedic masterpiece. Hollywood is so quick to replace wit and humor for Brad Pitt and a car chase, but this movie stays true to what they set out to do on youtube, and that was to make a great spoof. Thank god the Wayans had nothing to do with this movie!

Low budget surprise
pmdawn13 September 2008
Just so you know, I liked "300" and loved "Meet The Spartans". And still, when I came across this one, I thought "Man, this is going to be the worst movie ever".

And that's the surprise: although there's minimal money and cast, these are set aside for a "spin-off" of sorts - about 5 Spartans that weren't in "300". From then on, it's not just a spoof, but a whole new story of its own.

And, yes, funny. Maybe because everything is so damn absurd. It's shot in a mockumentary mode, and that adds to the silliness of everything. It's not for everyone's tastes though. If you don't like silly comedies that don't take anything seriously you won't like this.

So if you don't mind the VERY low budget, you might find some unexpected laughs in here. I think they did a pretty good job.

crazy
silentbob_rulz10 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
i would've voted 5 out of 10, but they put a lot into it, no matter how lame it looks...i haven't really looked into it, but i assumed some film school geeks with good stoner humor, is what this mockumentary was all about. it was funny, the beer fights, the fat dudes making their way to the oracle. funny if it were 4:20 and the blink guy...huh??? still funny in a sense. very cheap, but very funny. but is it better than meet the Spartans? i say (in the case of filling ten lines here) maybe...good change from the usual female comics, even though Carmen Electra is not really a comic...well, maybe when she is seriously acting, or dancing on baywatch....mmmm, baywatch.

Go rent or buy this movie!
edtortilla10 July 2008
With Hollywood cranking out American Pie 10 or Eurotrip meets Harold and Kumar a movie comes around with genuine humor and laugh out loud moments! In the vein of Mel Brooks, David Zucker, Christopher Guest, Jared Hess, and Monty Python the Holechek brothers craft a hilarious tale with a no name cast.

Having no budget and being propelled into a feature length because of YouTube popularity gives it more of a reason to check it out. Not to mention it has travel to the Palm Beach, Another Hole in the Head, Indie Spirit, and Newport beach film festivals!

This is the little film that could and deserves to be in your DVD collection! If you want a laugh to the point you have the pause the movie then this is your ticket. Rent/Buy it tonight!

Don't turn off after only five minutes.
wingthwong18 October 2018
So much better than the over produced Meet The Spartans. I had to watch more than 5 minutes to see that this is somewhat a perfect movie in a sense. It feels like a parody dreamed up by 12-15 year old boys in their backyard boys only tree club house. No big name trashy actors to muddy the image. No big special effects. No big overproduction on sets. The Persians made up language is stereotypical of what a young American English speaking teenage boy imagines middle eastern languages. The silly props are great. The simple character development is deep enough to add credibility. A little potty humor, but no raunch that drives movies like Sausage Party or other slob movies that only get ratings for being gross and pervertedly edgy. Throughoughly loved the anachronistic nature of the movie as well. A good flick to watch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Always nice to find these hidden silly gems.
