Originally a web series and created by J. Stevens, Karen Knox, and Gwenlyn Cumyn, the series follows lead Kirsten Rasmussen as Joanne, the coach of the Brovaries, a beer-league softball team in downtown Toronto, Canada. Knox stars as Boris, a german immigrant and my personal favourite character, and Cumyn as Ann, a player on the team, while Stevens directs the series. As a web series each episode only runs between 5 and 15 minutes, so was quick to get through, but definitely has me wanting for more. The series follows the traditional mockumentary style with talking heads and the odd addressing the camera, mostly taking place on the diamond, the locker rooms, or the bar they frequent after games. Its cheap but it works well, and sometimes in some clever ways. I laughed a good bit, and it rarely took itself seriously which I loved. Overall I enjoyed both seasons, but I do hope to see it picked up as a full series. I think a budget could make this great.
