Not as good as it should've been.
tobyford-768089 May 2021
Unfortunately this was a sloppy episode. The last 15 minutes were the best part, and I definitely agree with most that the ending was strong, even if slightly predictable.

However, I really am getting quite tired of dream/psychedelic sequences in TWDU. The show runners need to accept that they aren't a strong point in a show like this; they don't further the plot, and they didn't explore character psychology as much as they could have.

Secondly, this show loves to kill characters but also gives them heaps of plot armour when needed - kind of takes away some of the realism. There were some decisions made by characters that made very little sense. I'll keep it spoiler free but you'll know what I mean when you see it.

To conclude, not the best - but not horrible either.

Forgiven John's paralysing unnecessary loss; tolerated Daniel's betrayal; but man, what you guys did to Grace was just plain cruel. It's just felt wrong. Good job writing up more visceral bs. A real Happy mothers day indeed to you Grace.

Loved the Ending
oxojack9 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Twist at the end is great. Other than that the episode isn't very good. The dream sequence was some what filler. It made the twist at the end better but without the dream, the twist could've been just as tragic. Morgan's fight scene was a little corny in terms of the enemies only attacking him one at a time instead of doing the smart thing and attacking him all at once. Don't get me wrong, I love TWD and FTWD. Season 6 of Fear is my favourite season of Cear and I've loved all the episodes prior to this one however this one just wasn't it for me. Again I love the season and I loved the ending of this episode but the rest of this episodes felt like filler. This episode felt like a Season 4 or 5 episode. Yet again, the Season is great but this episode was hopefully a one off.

Good Will Squandered

Dear people making TWD universe. Thanks for the good content. But now it's just getting tedious. TWD content on amc feels like it's going downhill, GoT season 8 style: Audience taken for granted. Creatives getting complacent. QC coming long after profit motives. Etc etc.

I've stopped watching shows mid season for the first time recently. Such that, I just stopped caring what happened, and realized it was a wise decision because I got my valuable time back (to spend elsewhere). Don't make me add TWD to that list. Y'all are one more lame episode away. COVID isn't a sufficient excuse either. Either do, or don't. Peace.

In Dreams has many flaws, but it has great acting and overall a beautiful looking episode
Holt34410 May 2021
In Dreams is an unusual kind of episode that gives Karen David much needed screen time as her character's pregnancy have literally made her get reduced screen time which is wrong, there's too many characters. Lennie James gives an amazing performance, so does Karen David. Michael E. Satrazemis returns in the director chair, whilst there are nothing wrong with the direction, I found the writing to be far from the quality of previous episodes. I support the idea of changing things up and trying out new things but it didn't sit right with me. It's a filler but it sure is a visually stunning episode.

In Dreams is a decent episode that contains great acting and fantastic cinematography. The episode was a mixed bag for me, some things I really liked and some I disliked. I really hope someone else rates it higher than me as the crew did some phenomenal work.

Fear The Dreaming Dead
shehzadeha9 May 2021
This was a very very weird episode.

It was mostly a dream that would be considered filler that did nothing to contribute to the story with very cheesy "what if" and "future dream" sequences that made it look more like a supernatural show than a zombie show.

And there was also the case of the ridiculously hilarious talking zombie that just ruined the episode for me, as well as the motives that make no sense whatsoever.

I'd give it a 4/10 and that's for acting and directing, the writing was all over the place this episode.

The harsh truth of reality
ninjaboyballer11 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ok I'll admit this was probably my least favorite episode of the season. Sure it was a semi interesting dream sequence but the fact that it took up half the episode is just kinda baffling to me. And the comparisons between the past and present when presented were mixed at best. So this episode was just kind of a rushed mess. However I will say while this is probably my least favorite episode of the season, it has probably one of my favorite/saddest endings to an episode in Fear's run and maybe even the whole WD universe. The twist that what Grace was seeing was actually her daughters last moments and not her own was just so damn heartbreaking. And it really did crush almost any chance of that future she saw in her dream happening. But that's how reality is sometimes. The future you envision isn't always the one you get and it can hurt really bad. Overall messy, mixed bag with a solid, heart-wrenching ending. I still have no idea what that key's to but I have a guess. Let's just see where this leads.

Final rating: 7/10.

Worst episode of Fear the Walking Dead ever.

I don't understand how the writers could pull something like this. It made no sense at all. Makes me not even want to continue watching anymore. How disappointing.

Wow!
henrik-808-99480213 October 2021
Completely different from the rest of the series and I think this might be the best episode ever from all of the episodes in the Walking Dead universe. I would call it a religious experience. Most people won't like it but if you are open to dead people walking around, then you might consider other super natural things to be a possibility too. This was very deep! Great acting too.

Mixed bag
ubilstein12 May 2021
Im a 100% supportive of the mixed and negative reviews. This episode doesnt fit TWD. Its way too fantasy/mystical. The writing is pretty bad in many instances. The writing feels like a S5 epsiode.

Why I rated this 7 and whats safes this episode for me personally, is the amazing set design, vfx, cinematography and acting for what was given to them. Grace's actress is really amazing and underrated. This isnt the worst episode ever like some stated (dont forget stuff like the vultures or beer drinking bs from s4 or the pseudo documentary epsiodes from 5.) Im a bit disappointed because Grace's epsiode had a lot of potential. And I have an awful prediction which I hope isnt true. I could imagine AMC hired script doctors to save 6A after the bad S5 reception. And now in S6B Ian and Andrew do the story by their own again. The Daniel and now this Grace episode just feel off when it comes to the writing.

Why make it SO weird? Why?!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
The deliver scene was perfect. Perfectly acted (thank you Karen David & Lennie James), perfectly written, perfectly filmed, even unexpected! : that's why my five stars The rest of the episode just makes me so angry. The 'acid' trips on TWD universe never were good, but this one really is the winner. The scenes had zero connection with the 'real story', they could have done so much better without showing us the same hallucinations over and over again. I really wanted to like this one, but I think this becomes one of the worst FTWD episodes ever. And it's sad because the first 9 episodes of this season had been really good. But then came Crazy Daniel and the Crazy group of people from 'The End is the Beggining' to ruin it all. Please I hope season 6 gets better.

Underrated episode
unrealmuscat12 May 2021
This episode is the most original script for Walking dead and FTWD interludes. You really don't know what is the conclusion until the conclusion. Every other episodes are predictables and turn around the same things. This one is totally different. The problem with that kind of script is that looks like pure padding to fill the time of an episode. They have done things like this in the Walking dead but that was pretty bad compared to this. Of course nobody wants that kind of things. We don't want interludes we want what happened after the last episode. :D.

Stunning visually, confusing mentally
ricardoarditoo25 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is one to be admired for the visuals, but the story is all a little bit all over the place.

I am not against dream sequences and flashbacks mixed in, I think they can be done creatively and have been successful across the TWD universe. This however, felt like a comedy at the start with all the characters looking basically the same apart from Morgan looking like Morgan Freeman. Why would he have hair when he's old? He's already bald??? Besides that, the story was interesting to explore. I don't understand why we were not shown the initial car explosion with Grace and Morgan to understand the situation, it would have made more sense if the episode started with that before the credits, although it wormed it's way in throughout the long dream.

The parallel killing scenes in the stables were brilliant. The dead-but-not-dead walkers worked very well and came across very scary in the dream sequence, and we got to see Morgan be a badass again with his stick - although has he made another stick without the axe head? Whatever, he looked cool.

'Key' part is confusing, Morgan probably shouldn't of given it to him, Grace's interference obviously didn't help but I think both characters were a little out of character in that moment - but I guess it's plot building.

The ending was bittersweet. Very sad and very good acting from Karen David (which is boosting the rating up) and especially the reveal of the dream being her daughter's last moments, instead of hers - a nice, unexpected twist. Genuinely thought she was done for. Thank god they didn't bring a baby into this show, too.

Not as good as previous episodes, but heavy experimental exploration which is something I have always admired Fear for.

Losing momentum
hnt_dnl10 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
IN DREAMS, while well-intentioned, may quite possibly be the worst episode of Season 6 so far. Many fans probably think this is the only bad episode, but I disagree as there have been a few clunkers this season to go along with the greatness. I have 3 other episodes that I thought were weak 6x02, 6x03, and 6x11. The only thing that those 3 episodes might have over 6x12 is that each of them probably had some good parts to keep them from being the worst and I'm not even sure about that. Bottom line, so far there are 4 bottom of the barrel episodes and this is most definitely one of them. This episode focuses on Grace, who in my opinion has been one of the most forgettable characters introduced during the Time Jump Morgan era of Fear. I'm just not impressed with her character at all. Like several of the newbies, Grace is just kind of there. And she and Morgan have ZERO chemistry. They just love each other and I have no idea why.

In Dreams goes the pretentious route of Grace having an out-of-body experience where her conscious is trapped in a reality 16 years in the future where she is dead and her daughter is being raised by a gray-haired Morgan at the group's compound. We also see older versions of several other characters, including June, Charlie, Dwight, Sherry, Daniel, and Strand. In parallel to Grace's dream subplot, there's Morgan in the real world trapped with unconscious Grace, who is in labor, while he's being hunted by the dubious new villains, the End is the Beginning cult, for the mysterious key that he stole from them.

There is this absolutely inane fight sequence where the bad guys, who actually have guns, instead opt to fight Morgan without them in hand-to-hand combat. He chops them up one by one, then for some inexplicable reason opts to only wound their leader Riley (played by Nick Stahl) and let him go free only for him to return and hold Morgan and Grace at gunpoint! So instead of just shooting Morgan in the leg or something and taking the key forcibly, Riley just stands there and threatens him, while a now fully conscious Grace does all this completely unnecessary shouting and pleading spouting nonsense about how her unborn child will be the savior in the future and the key to bringing down the cult. So Grace actually bought into her fever dream that 16 years in the future, her BABY will save the universe? And Morgan actually bought into this nonsense? And did any of it matter? Thanks to Morgan's stupidity, Riley already had the upper hand on the duo anyway. The episode concludes with a manipulative and hackneyed scene of Grace losing her baby.

This episode was so forgettable and poorly written, probably as bad as any of the episodes from the series-worst Season 5. These must have been some of the same writers from that season. And despite the positive reception, I didn't like the prior Wes-Alicia centric episode either due to me being as unimpressed with those 2 characters as I am with Grace. Both episodes involve this cult and the most boring main characters. And since there are still more boring main characters to focus on and the cult are the new villains who will be around for a while, my prediction is that Season 6 will go out on a whimper instead of a bang.

I give it a 5 only because of the ending...
MonicaRobati19609 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After several episodes of seriously dumb character behavior, I can't take it anymore. So, I'm doing my first review (rant). I'm so tired of character's being stupid and not planning or practicing for future scenarios. Does fear of losing a loved one have to make you so stupid that, again you do what your told, hoping the lying, murdering bad guy will keep his word.

Hasn't anyone learned how to be sneaky? Morgan could easily have kept the key somewhere besides "his neck". He could, like maybe, wear a fake/false key around to use if caught again, and in that moment tricked his opponents. Right?

Or you can't plan a "what if" scenario? Like "what if" your caught and unarmed, you could maybe have some type of weapon sewn into you cloths? Maybe a garrot wire along clothing seams to slice someone's neck or a small knife to slice the carotid artery? To use when the bad guy turns his back on you?

Since when is Self Defense considered "murder"? Why would you think your stooping to the murderers "level" or that your actions' begin to compare to theirs's? Stop letting bad guys twist the truth and feeling guilt by their version.

How about the writer's start treating viewers like they have a brain, and quit adding filler episodes, etc.? Anyone with a brain gets what I'm saying.

Another solid episode
tristan_199 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was truly devastating. Karen David did a fantastic job as the lead actress, and the cinematography was top notch. I like the sense of wonder and mystery as we are left wondering what is going on. Is it really the future ? Why are the showrunners showing us this ? And why is Grace dreaming of this ?

The answers come gradually throughout the episode, and the series delivers a dark and heartbreaking twist at the end, as we understand that Grace was actually seeing the last moments of her daughter.

I love that the crew tried something different. It was unique, and the What If or What Could Be scenarios were interesting to explore, at the very least.

Cos nobody cares about this story any more.

More plot armour, more 'where tf is this going?", more good acting on bad content, it's over, time to die.

Please someone put a pick axe through the rotten brain stem of this walking corpse.

Warning: Spoilers
A beautiful filler episode with usual "the beyond" dragging scenes, but well-acted and well-told with some deep messages, that even though I looked at them with a magnifier, almost nothing was clearly shown!

When do the showrunners/writers realize that episodes such as "In Dreams" Do Not fit well in Zombie/post-apocalyptic series and more dynamic and active ones are needed. Maybe in a few years, when the series' ended...
