Patty takes interest in helping shy, pessimistic Marsha Mason (Carolyne Barry) gain confidence. In Pygmalion style, she changes Marsha's appearance and begins teaching her feminine etiquette. Patty has Richard stand in for the lessons and Marsha gains a comfort level. Patty asks Richard to ask Marsha for her first date, but soon feels they are getting a little too close. The divide furthers when they both run for class president.
Many of the classic sitcoms had a variation of the Pygmalion story and how it can backfire. ("The Brady Bunch", for example, redid this episode almost exactly.) So, the plot here is perhaps a bit too familiar if you've seen a lot of classic TV.
