An underwhelming finish to a disjointed, mediocre season.
poseyfan19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I think an audible "huh?" Is definitely called for here. This was definitely the weakest season so far of Mando. It wasn't outright terrible, but it left a lot to be desired. The same can be said for this episode.

The Darksaber just gets destroyed by a fist closing? All of Gideon's clones just die instantly? No major reveals or plot twists? They definitely played it safe. It would seem they didn't go the "inspirational" route, but more the "fill in the boxes" route; if that makes sense.

I really liked the ending though. It sets us up for how season 1 started. Din and Mando on rag tag missions together. I also like how Grogu is starting to become an independent character. I'm still waiting for his first words though.

The Mandalorians uniting and flying in unison with their jetpacks was a cool sight too.

Overall, it left a lot to be desired, but it wasn't bad by any stretch.

Why are people acting like this show was ever something else?
Henry-J-Aldridge22 April 2023
I enjoyed this episode and the rest of this season, and by the looks of it, a lot more than other people. This show is just surface-level, easy going entertainment in the Star Wars universe, and that's what it always has been. I don't know why some reviewers are comparing this show to Andor - did you really ever think The Mandalorian was ever on the same level of storytelling as Andor? And that it's somehow dropped in quality? No, The Mandalorian was never like Andor, so why act like it? It's not a bad thing that this show isn't like Andor - The Mandalorian is just a fun Star Wars show to watch, that's all it needs to be and ever has been. I wasn't a huge fan of the first two seasons because I didn't feel like a lot happened in them - mostly just Din Djarin hopping around doing odd-jobs, which is fine, but nothing for me to rave about. I really enjoyed this season because there was a lot more going on in the plot and we focused more on other characters - it was a breath of fresh air. People need to stop giving this season stupid 1/10 reviews and acting entitled like they have been betrayed by the writers, when really their memories are betraying them. It is good to see that more people have a higher standard of TV shows though - I certainly would like more Star Wars shows like Andor, so please push for it. But not everything has to be the new Breaking Bad of shows.

Breathtaking Spectacle
ossie8519 April 2023
Thie was a visual feast for the senses. From the breathtaking action sequences to the stunning landscapes, the episode truly delivered on spectacle. However, while the spectacle was certainly impressive, there were times where the story felt somewhat predictable.

Despite this slight flaw, what an amazingly enjoyable episode that highlighted the show's strengths. The dynamic between the titular Mandalorian and the charismatic Grogu remains a highlight of the series, and the dynamic was on full display in this episode.

The special effects were also top-notch, with the smaller-scale fight scenes feeling just as impactful as the larger set-pieces.

This is the weakest season of The Mandalorian but still very much worth the watch.

Good finishing episode with its flaws
eviitala7 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I quite liked the last 2 episodes of the series. However, some of the events didn't really make sense. For example, there was an entire imperial base built in Mandalore yet the ones who still lived in the planet had no idea and then suddenly everything happens in a blink of an eye.

Then to the second point: if Gideon knew that the mandalorian was close to his clones so why would he not interfere sooner and call upon more troops to stop him.

The mandalorian side of the plot in this season was good but the focus on the enemies and the connection between things was a bit off. For example what was the motivation behind the pirates if they were truly serving the enemy side.

Best episode
eoinpgeary19 April 2023
Yea, we end on a good note, I think this is by far the strongest episode of the season.

So we pick up right after the events of last episode and I did like it, the only parts I wasn't too gone on was the scenes between all the Mandalorians together but other than that yea I enjoyed it.

If a S4 is coming, I would hope they have a much better storyline that is consistent and continuous throughout because this season didn't have it at all.

This episode though, Din against the blaster walls one by one was really cool, more Grogu was also good, the big last battle was okay, I think it could have been better BUT good, enjoyable action and it has ended where we can have S4 and if we don't that will be okay but I would have loved a strong season to finish but it's Disney let's be honest we are getting another season, if so I think Grogu needs a solid story, Mando needs to be at the front of it again, too many stories this season lead to nothing really. This finale is the weakest of the 3 seasons but it's not bad, 8.5/10.

Cool finale in a weak season!
and_mikkelsen19 April 2023
While the season as a whole was a letdown this episode was not the worst... but it deffinetely could have been better! Some great and intense action scenes! I enjoyed the fights, more than I thought and they were a bit creative at times! It was cool to see them all unite and fight! Sometimes you just wanna see something cool and this episode gave us that!

The ending was... idk, but I cannot say i am as excited for season 4 as I was for season 3 after season 2!

I still feel like there are missed opportunities this season! A lot of the elements from this and the previous episode should have been the focus throughout the whole season! Introduce Gideon sooner as well as the other Mandalorian warriors, to make this episode even better! Instead It feels half baked once we get to the end! Still some plotlines left open, but maybe we get answers if we get a season 4 or in Ahsoka!

I really hope Ahsoka will deliver, and not another Kenobi disaster!

The Return is the start of the Mandalorian's story and now has a kid.
moviesfilmsreviewsinc20 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The Return is a satisfying ending to the season of The Mandalorian, with the focus on Bo-Katan and the reunion of the estranged tribes under the mantle of The Creed. Gideon's evil plans for Mandalore have been highlighted in the past two episodes, with him razing the planet, scattering its people, and using their sacred act of forging Beskar armor to bolster his own army of Imperial Mando-lites. Gideon violates, exploits, and violently misappropriates, making him one of the greatest villains in Star Wars history. Din Djarin and Grogu are the undisputed beating heart of the show, framing the conflict in this way. Bo-Katan is proving to be a worthy co-protagonist, but she is not yet there. Din Djarin and Grogu are the marquee players, and it is heartening to see them treated as such in the finale. Din Djarin and Grogu finally get their hands on Gideon, but they had to earn it by fighting through a grueling gauntlet of Imperial commandos and Praetorian Guards. The finale nails all of these sequences, from R5 having a hero moment to Din and Grogu tag-teaming to kick the crap out of the Praetorian Guards. The shot of the blast doors shutting as the Praetorians back a cowering Grogu into a corner is so heart-wrenching it makes you want to reach through the screen and save the little guy yourself. Din Djarin telling Grogu, "You did good, kid," is absolutely everything. This duo is what makes this Star Wars series unique and special, and they really get to shine here as they overcome serious peril as father and son. The theme of the season, "Mandalorians are stronger together," is encapsulated in this finale. The people of Mandalore work selflessly to defeat a villain who is so self-obsessed and egomaniacal that he tried to make a clone army of himself. ADGrogu saves Din Djarin and Bo-Katan with the Force bubble, and Din Djarin adopts him as his son and apprentice and settles down on Nevarro to start a new life as a bounty-hunting family. The final shot of the central duo is precious, as they finally feel like they're both where they belong. Jon Favreau has confirmed he's writing a fourth season. The emotional denouement of "The Return" is just as important as its action, with Din Djarin finally fully embracing Grogu as his son and apprentice. The finale foreshadows a return to form for the show, with the duo heading on adventures together to follow the Way of the Mandalore. It also offers the chance to use some of the plot from the scrapped Rangers of the New Republic show, with Din Djarin serving as an independent contractor solving problems in the Outer Rim. The finale is packed with excellent fight scenes but also devotes plenty of time to the emotional aftermath, showing how much the characters have grown and laying the groundwork for the series' future.

Mini Yoda's destiny
XweAponX20 April 2023
He is no longer swallowing frogs. Making them float, maybe. And he doesn't appear to need his floating crib any longer.

He's no longer passing out when he expels the least bit of force energy.

And he's no longer afraid.

The red guys get their just desserts. I was kind of hoping the big guy survived. But at least his son did.

We finally got to see the full extent of Moff Gideon's hideousity. It was as if sections of the death star were used to create his base. But Mandalorians are stronger together.

One Mandalorian saga ends, a new one begins.

Honestly, I don't know if this represents the end of the story. There is certainly room for more tales to be told.

Mando becomes a type of Kwai Chan Caine.

"The Return" is the best description.
gnev-4654119 April 2023
After a not really strong season and absolute two horrible episodes that gave me headaches this is really "The return".

The visuals are stunning and minor plotholes forgiveable as the overall arc for this episode was alright.

Also cinematic quality fx, lots of actually good made fights and putting the stupid red guard into their position.

The ending of the big fight scene is very emotional and very well made. Just fantastic.

I really dont know what went wrong with this season. The quality within the season in story, execution, dialogues were just not in the same league inbetween the different episodes. Probably some directors simply dont have it.

Sacrificing writing to make it Disneyesque.
lovemichaeljordan20 April 2023
I used to tell my friends that this show was one of my all-time favoriter just two years ago. I would absolutely not say that after this season. Was it enjoyable? Yes, but the writing is lightyears away from the greatest shows currently on TV. Compare this to Succession's writing - it's day and night.

This show has got a bad case of the Disneys. It's too childlike and playful now. The writing is not smart. Things just happen and for the most part the things do not make sense. There are so many dumb decisions made by the bad guys too. If the writers want something to happen, it will happen. It doesn't matter if some other actions would be more logical.

Despite the problems the visual effects are impressive. It looks like a movie. The fight choreography is also very good. I think everyone involved is very talented, but they have to sacrifice the writing in order for it to be more Disneyesque.

Utter nonsense
gpglenpeters19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The dialogue is utter trash.

The plot is ridiculous, and boring. What a stupid end to a terrible season. If this is the way then I don't want to know about it.

The fight scenes are pedestrian, and illogical. What is the point of a shootout between two forces both wearing impenetrable armour? Except its not always impenetrable, only when the plot needs it to be.

Grogu forgets and remembers to use the force selectively, which also makes no sense.

The antagonist is a tool, a complete idiot, easily defeated and entirely unbelievable as an actual menace.

This whole season was absolutely pointless.

Last two episodes should have been the theatre movie
terrylarosa20 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best season finales ever made. Solid nonstop action from beginning to end. This is the way you do it. Eons above the tedious trash heap that was Anbore. So much for all the nonsense fan theories that were being laughingly thrown about; especially about certain Mandolorians that were bad or going to die. The unique battle was spectacular as were the solo fights. And that final save by Grogu was epic. As was the emotional end of him being adopted. The last two episodes would have made a fantastic film in the theatre. I'm sure there will be the whiners spouting some critical nonsense on a nearly flawless episode but they always have to complain about something. Ignore them. This episode was certainly the way to finish the season.

Yeah I'm Disappointed.
ronniewhitedx19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Well, that certainly was a show that happened." This is not the takeaway that I ever thought I would have with the show that brought the fandom together for its first two seasons, completely revitalizing the Star Wars brand for both the fans and those who previously showed disinterest in the franchise as a whole. It's sad. I feel sad. Not angry or frustrated, just miserable at what they did to this show. I really want to understand what happened to the writers, directors, and producers that prompted them to create a cynical and bastardized version of the material that had been relatively solid up until the start of season 3. Was it COVID? Was it a budget cut? Creative differences between the leading figures? I'm genuinely curious. After both Book of Boba and Kenobi being massive narrative misses, why did nobody stand up and say, "Hey, let's not do this with the show that brought everyone together."

Now let me tear this particular episode to pieces.

  • Why do we always get a "this is the way" line whenever a character decides to do something? It comes across as "we don't know how to write thought-provoking dialogue, so let's lean on the thing we can put on T-shirts." It's super lazy at best, cynical and mocking at worst.

  • Moff Gideon is a great villain in season 1 and 2 and had a lot of intelligence and intrigue. In season 3, he is reduced to a mockery and used as cannon fodder in the last couple of episodes. His death was... How do I put this? Dumb? Like, silly dumb. And it's not in line with his character previously.

  • Grogu gets meched. The mech is used to fight only once. The mech gets destroyed. Grogu runs around on beams while guards try to get him. A beam breaks and falls on Grogu, trapping him. Din saves Grogu from the guards. Grogu saves Din and Bo from an explosion. Grogu lives happily ever after with Din, his new dad. This is the plot for his character this season. I'm almost 1000% certain that ChatGPT could have come up with something better. So, what is this?

  • The Dark saber breaks. The person who broke it was obsessed with it. He then says that the Dark saber was a dumb Mandalorian tradition. Huh? X10

  • There is no spy. So why bring up the spy?

  • The previous episode alludes to a conflict with the Mandalorians and the New Republic with Moth Gideon's escape during the ending of one episode. But, the New Republic just forgets. What the hell?

  • The CG is subpar. I guess Disney is tightening their purse strings.

  • The writing overall is bad.

  • The directing varied from mediocre to okay.

  • The final shot of Grogu and Din ends with a literal Looney Tunes circle in. Wow, we just gave up, didn't we?

So, like this season, I'll rush my final thoughts. Seasons 1 and 2 were very good. Season 3 makes Boba Fett and Kenobi blush. Bye.

Why
sevskirita21 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
That's all I'm left saying after this finale.

Why make another season.

Why did Djarin not adopt Grogu before.

Why is Grogu's adoption a random bone toss in the middle of the finale instead of an arc.

Why wasn't Bo's arc more in depth, and why didn't they develop the conflict of Bo thinking that all that made a leader was holding the Darksaber only for this episode to show her the people would still rally behind her.

Why did they make Grogu struggle with basic tasks like putting wires together or comprehending danger in seasons 1 and 2 then suddenly Grogu somehow had the mental capability to train as a Jedi 30 years before that point, and now has the ability to use the Force essentially at will.

Why wasn't his mastering the use of the Force an arc.

Why did I watch 300 minutes of Bo doing errands for a single line payoff of "muh unity" in the finale (which was literally her attitude in Rebels, actually the fifth line she speaks of the season is complaining about disunity).

And why oh £#^%{ why did they bring back IG-11 and invalidate his sacrifice? What did that have to do with anything?

This episode was mostly good... in a vacuum. But a finale is only the final piece of the puzzle; if you crammed in the pieces all willy nilly with little care as to where you were putting them, you can spend as much time as you like carefully putting in that last piece.... and it's not going to get you anywhere.

Was the action good and unique? Yes. But did we spend time developing arcs for Axe, Djarin, Grogu, and Bo or even the stakes this season enough to have some tension or care during this action? No.

Was the dialogue good and the character moments like Bo's turning on the Forges or Grogu being adopted good in theory? Yes. But was Bo's character arc consistently developed and maintained? Did Bo learn anything from her time in a cult other than "we need to work together", a attitude she already had during Rebels? Did Grogu have any conflict about being Djarin's family this season? No, no, and no.

There were literally no character arcs this season.

I don't know what happened to this show. This show was the one that did the IG-11 redemption arc. The Kuill not turning the other way arc. The Djarin not turning the other way arc. This show used to be revolutionary storytelling not just for Star Wars. Now it's an inconsistent rubbish pile of half baked ideas.

As for my rating. In of itself, it was pretty solid, again. The action was good, dialogue great, and the character moments so good... if this was a standalone story and not a part of a season long narrative. It was nice that they differentiated Gideon from Gus I guess. 8/10 material, maybe could've been even better if the arcs that were developed to this point were out of this world. However, I'm taking off 2 for bringing back IG-11, and thereby invalidating his sacrifice. 1 more because it was literally just to please a baby character. 1 for inconsistent Grogu mental maturity. 2 for paying off arcs that didn't exist or were threadbare.

I used to love this show. The first season was probably my favorite season of Star Wars television.

Satisfying ending to a disjointed season
samuel-audet-1119 April 2023
While the season 2 finale was one of the best episodes of any season I have watched and therefore a tall order to match, 'The Return' ties up the loose ends from season 3 nicely while setting the precedent for many more adventures to come for Din Djarin and Grogu.

Din Djarin and Grogu get to show what they're really capable of throughout this episode, something that has been lacking throughout season 3, and something I am excited to see a lot more of.

There were a lot of fan theories floating around about how this episode would wrap up the many subplots throughout this season, and the fact that many of these were off the mark doesn't make it poorly written in my opinion. It did however feel a little safe and there were no real surprises that emerged, but the simplicity of the Mandalorian was what made the first two seasons so brilliant. I hope this is a sign of things to come (and Jon Favreau has confirmed a script for season 4 has been completed!)

This is an action packed episode
Well, this episode doesn't have a Luke Skywalker cameo, but it is funny, full of action and it really feel like a sequel to the original trilogy, this is really a true Star Wars in all meanings. I saw some fans complaining about this episode, but after i saw it i can't really say their reviews are valid, i mean, i really had a very good time watching this episode, just like i had watching The Return Of The Jedi, maybe some deep elements like the ones from The Empire Strikes Back or like the ones from Andor are missing, but this episode remains a strong one so all i can say is to grab your kids and the rest of your relatives, even your cat and your dog and start watching this episode and you will not regret at the end, because the fun will be at the maximum level.

The universe of The Mandalorian keeps expanding, giving joy to the Star Wars fans.
fciocca19 April 2023
This show gets more beautiful and compelling every season. The story-telling is amazing, the character development is exciting, because Din Djarin and Grogu grow in every episode and their relationship becomes stronger. In this third series John Favreau focused more on the Mandalorians and their journey to take back their planet that was raided by the Empire. At times Din Djarin seems more a side character, but I really liked the fact that creators were giving space to other matters expanding the lore. He and Grogu were already at the very center of the show in the first two seasons, plus they appeared on "The Book of Boba Fett", therefore I do not have any complaint. The action sequences are just epic, the CGI and the stunts are always on point. The narration is at times slow paced and the series takes sometimes to deepen secondary storylines that will eventually intertwine with the main plot. The most beautiful thing is that during these three years, "The Mandalorian" always stayed faithful to the original work developed by George Lucas, at least in style and editing.

The Star Wars universe at this moment is in really good shape. I can easily forgive what Disney did to the latest trilogy. It was an accident and it can happen. "The Mandalorian" is heads down the best product of the franchise that was released in recent years, but if you want to catch up, there are several other series that you can retrieve on Disney Plus. If the future of this franchise relies entirely on TV shows of this quality, I am completely down with it, just keep it coming.

Absolutely Fantastic

Warning: Spoilers
I can't say much more than! A great episode!

So speechless and awe at how this part of the story ended on a very, very high note!

Great story, great action and sadness!

The Mandalorians or Mandalorian together are unstoppable! They are a warrior people and trained from birth to be like Greek Spartans! They totally annihilated the imperials! You can just see from the battles the Mandalorians have the edge!

Moff Gideon is one bad ass villain one of the best up there in the Star Wars universe! Giancarilo Esposito is a brilliant actor I can't say more!

Katee Sackhoff and Pedro Pascal.. are excellent with a story like this it keeps you on the edge of your seat!

R5 is up there with R2D2 and Chopper such a great droid!

The Mandalorian sky battle was excellent Bo-Katan with Dark Saber in hand!

10000% a great episode!

What a way to end season 3!
tarascopablo19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Many reviewers have been complaining about the season three, claiming there were many "filler episodes" or that the pace was too slow but to me that was no the case.

Season 3 offers a new relationship dynamic with a more "mature" Grogu and also a Din that now has to balance his responsibilities with his creed.

Adding the character of Bo Katan as a titular character for the season was a bold move because it focuses now on three characters and their different struggles: i) Mando being a full time bounty hunter / dad / mentor and ii) Bo´s constant struggle to retake Mandalore even after her many mistakes.

Overall, the plot of every episode was very good and the conclusion in E24 was fantastic. The coreography of the fight was pretty well done and there were many emotional moments for every character.

Regarding Star Wars lore, this series -as well as The Bad Batch- is building an explanation to the infamous line "somehow Palpatine returned".

In my opinion, these are my scores for every season taking into account directing, script, acting, photography, music and vfx: Season 1: 9/10 Season 2: 8.5/10 Season 3: 8.5/10

Anyways, be safe out there and may the force be with you.

As the ending credits rolled i thought m pretty satisfied
suvechhabose19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As promised This chapter took me to the edge of my seat. I am a fan , after loosing tech i wasn't really looking for another sad ending. Pretty safe play , wasn't predictable at all though cause i was worried Anything could happen to Din but yes a mid tire ending with good visuals & action sequences.

(Spoilers ahead) I really appreciated what R5 did. His scene with cleaning droids was funny during this much tension.

Loved how Grogu finally Gave us an kanan moment.

Really felt like Old Mandalorian when Grogu & Din joined team. I really Appreciated the wholesome ending with no cliffhangers . I don't like stereotype show where a mercenary always have to live a running life with murder & brutality on his head . This peace & quiet might hurt in later season as Jon faverau is already on season 4 plot and script Action sequences were cool No spies were detected

Now the untapped potential Disney/Rick fumuyiwa missed , Boba or Ahsoka wasn't shown .

Why didn't you showed us Shadow council discussing moff's death? Could have given us a scene of Thrawn ! Moff loosing his tie bombers was never shown. Darksaber is nothing now. Felt like no tension was there .

Mediocre ending from Star wars pov Cool ending for Mandalorian universe pov.

Underwhelming ending to an underwhelming season.
alexnicolex19 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is not necessarily bad, but it's neither good. The writing keeps on being mediocre at best. Just a lot of generic action, low stakes, and by the end credits, it really feels like nothing was accomplished at the end of this journey. What was accomplished, feels meaningless. Nothing is set up for the future of this show, or the ones connect to it, such as Ahsoka. The villain ends up being a generic, forgettable villain, defeated by the most generic thropes (those being the power of friendship and unity). Again, none of this directly translates into a bad show. But is Star Wars really supposed to feel this meaningless?

It's Grogu to the Rescue!
marxspawn19 April 2023
Another Fantastic episode of The Mandalorian with a great ending for the season. I am ready for season 4 already.

This show is absolutely the best show on television. I simply can't wait for the next episode each week.

I wish Disney was more like Netflix and just released the whole season at once. I do not know what the deal is with streaming services releasing series one episode at a time like a network trying to get you to watch their station on Wednesday Nights at 8. Streaming is about binge watching, let us binge!!

Who am I kidding, I am about to re-watch all 3 seasons again because this show is that good.

Satisfying but lacks of the unexpected
moritzherz19 April 2023
After the astonishing episode last week, that not only set this show back on track but also connected all the storylines of this season.

The last episode concludes this rather rough season as good as it can. The action is top quality, the effects are masterclass and the plot is solid but not unexpected. It was great not to see Bo Katan girlboss but Mando, Grogu and her fighting together. Sure there are some plotholes and therefore this finale is the weakest so far, but it was the best Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni could do after Kathleen Kennedy made some fatal decisions.

Now this show is back on track without having wasted all of the season. Ahsoka has to deliver so the audience will return, but there is no disaster created by the Mandalorian.

The difference between Star Wars and the other Disney franchises is, that all the others are already dead, Star Wars still survives because the people working there love Star Wars and therefore will never give up making good quality stories for there belived franchise. Kennedy cannot ruin everything!

Now I want to talk a bit about the plot so Spoiler Warning here!

The darksaber is now destroyed in which may be the most powerful scene of the episode. This should prevent a lot of conflicts in the future.

Mando is now settling down with Grogu on Nevarro. This is great to see and they can now relax for a bit.

I think Moff Gideon survived because his "death" was not really shown. This is by far the most controversial part of this episode and I do not know yet if I like it or not.

Mandalore finally gets reincarnated and I hope to see progression in future seasons.

However I want them to focus more on Din and Grogu and their adventures.

All in all a solid season finale, that is satisfying but lacks of the big reveals and plottwists. All the hope lies now on Ahsoka which is produced by Dave Filoni.

How to inspire apathy, in 8 episodes.
funsized-8663721 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well, it was a season. That's about as much as I can say about it. I actually feel relieved that it's over.

I'm glad for the people that got some enjoyment out of it. Honestly. At least you didn't feel like your time was wasted. For a lot of us, though, it's a sign of decline in a show that we were hanging on to as one of the "good" parts of Disney Star Wars. One bad season may not be the end of the world, but this is also following the disappointments that were the Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi, so personally, my faith is at an all-time low.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade; this is all just my opinion, which is mostly negative from here on out. This review is way too long, too, but it feels therapeutic to get it all out. Fair warning.

The finale was okay. Safe, bland, inoffensive, no suspense. Meh.

"You're just mad that your theories were wrong!" someone might say. Sure, some people might be. I think most of us were just expecting more than what we got. Is it wrong for us to want to be surprised, intrigued, or excited by the shows we watch? This episode, along with the whole season, just reminded me of the sad fart that comes out of a slowly deflating balloon. You know what I mean.

Trashing the Darksaber felt like a way to get rid of an inconvenient plot device, that could have been interesting if handled well. The way they did it was so nonsensical, too. Not sure how beskar can be crushed so easily, even with Gideon's armor enhancements. If anything, Bo's hand should have been reduced to mashed potatoes, but she only seemed to suffer minor injuries. I'm sure someone on the internet will come up with an explanation, but it's never good when fans have to do the thinking for the writers. Not theorizing, actual thinking.

Overall, the rest of the season was pretty disappointing to me. The only word I can use to describe it is shallow. I wanted more substance, but everything remained surface-level and unsatisfying. Here are some of the issues I had:

1. Bo's arc. First of all, did anyone else notice how the trailer hid that she's essentially the main character this season? Please stop with the bait and switch, it's so irritating. Just give Bo her own show.

It's not that I don't like Bo. She's interesting and has more depth than most, if not all, of the characters on this show. I'm still not convinced she'll be a good leader, though. She admits she failed yet again (is that 3 times now?), but no one seems to mind. Has everyone forgotten that she was a terrorist that literally burned down a village, lied to the Mandalorians to secure power for herself and Pre Vizsla, and helped Maul set up a giant crime syndicate? You wouldn't know that if you didn't watch Clone Wars, because she's never really held accountable for her terrible decisions in the past. None of the other Mandalorians ever really question or doubt her except for Axe, and even he gets over it pretty quickly. Leaders often have to deal with and overcome those issues, and it would have been interesting to see Bo do the same. I think her redemption arc and rise to power could have been really stellar if done properly. Due to how quickly she was built up this season, at the expense of character development for Din, I thought that perhaps they were setting up a heroic death or some sort of meaningful sacrifice on her part. Nope. I think her character deserved better; she doesn't need to be treated with kiddie gloves.

2. The writing. Has this show ever been particularly profound or thought-provoking? No. But some of the writing this season was so juvenile, contrived, and full of plot holes that I needed to completely disconnect my brain in order to enjoy it, and simply observe the characters moving around on screen like I'm watching animals at the zoo. I'm okay with that, when it comes to certain franchises like Transformers. There's a certain point, however, when characters do things that no human with a functioning brain would do, and it takes me out of the show anyway.

The Mandalorian being a kid's show, which is debatable in itself, does not excuse poor writing. Kids' content can appeal to adults as well if it's written intelligently enough. Take Shrek 2, for example. I was a kid when that movie came out, but I only enjoyed it more as I got older.

I'm pretty sure they're writing the dialogue to cater to people who are on their phones while watching, considering how spoon-fed it is. A lot of the characters just narrate things as they are happening on screen. (Ex. "We just got hit!" "They destroyed my home!")

Events also just seem to happen with no rhyme or reason (all the monsters that randomly pop up, for example) in order to give the characters something to react to. Even Bo mostly gets pulled along by the plot, responding to things that happen rather than actually making things happen.

I don't think the emotional moments had as much impact as they had intended. Consider Paz's death and compare it to Kuiil's death in season 1. I wish I could say I felt something when Paz died, but I knew next to nothing about him. Kuiil didn't even have that much screen time, but he was likable and his death hurt. They had plenty of time to give Paz some characterization, but they didn't. His own tribe didn't even mention his death in the finale, like the writers forgot about him.

What's frustrating is, I know that some writers at Lucasfilm are capable of this. Look at episode 12 of this season of the Bad Batch. The Outpost is now one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars media, ever. I've re-watched it several times and haven't gotten tired of it. Not every episode of a show needs to be as dramatic or emotional as that episode was, but it was nice to actually get goosebumps again while watching Star Wars.

All of this to say: good, well thought-out writing hurts no one. I don't think it's that unreasonable of an ask. The people that turn off their brains to watch this stuff won't notice, and the people that do pay attention to the writing and plot elements will appreciate the thought put into it. Everyone wins.

3. The premise, namely the reunification of the Mandalorians and reclaiming Mandalore. Neither faction of Mandos was developed enough to make me care and root for their reconciliation. I was never in suspense as to whether they would actually get along, because there was no tension or depth to their rivalry. This might just be my terrible memory, but I'm not sure why they hated each other so much in the first place. Because one side takes their helmets off and the other doesn't? Because the Children of the Watch didn't stop the purge of Mandalore, even though they were sequestered to a different planet? Okay, I guess. If they had taken time to set it up properly, maybe with some personal stakes, the eventual payoff would have been more satisfying. By the end, I just didn't really care anymore.

4. The portrayal of Mandalorians. This is more of a personal gripe. Being a fan of Mandalorians in the expanded universe, I was curious to see how they'd develop Mandalorian culture and how it would differ from Legends, or if they'd incorporate anything from the EU into the show.

I was hoping for some Mando'a at least, to add some flavor; yes, they've used a few words, but they have a large vocabulary (that someone else made up) at their disposal to use. Heck, I would be okay if they never included any EU elements, as long as they replaced it with something cool. What we actually got was pretty underwhelming and bland, in my opinion. Here's what season 3 taught me about Mandalorians, or at least Disney's version of them:

-They're awful parents. (A large predator kills several members of their clan, but they don't seem to feel the need to protect their children from it. Also, Din takes Grogu on several extremely dangerous missions, but suddenly decides he needs to be more selective about his bounties?)

-They have no common sense and even the smart ones (Bo) don't use good tactics.

-They're gullible and vulnerable to corruption. (Apparently, if you claim to have seen the Mythosaur, the Armorer will believe you almost immediately with no proof.)

-They often forget how to utilize their own weapons. (The amount of times they could have solved their issues with their jetpack missiles, but didn't, was insane.)

-They throw away their own rules and traditions at the drop of a hat.

-They're terrible at hiding, and extremely easy to sneak up on.

Nothing about them inspires me to keep watching. I don't believe they're the legendary warriors they claim to be; many of these episodes actually made them seem rather inept. If anyone wants to read about Mandalorians that actually live up to their reputations, I'd recommend Legends material (Jango Fett: Open Seasons, Republic Commando novels, etc.). EU content isn't perfect, but at least the writers made me believe that those Mandalorians are competent and capable.

It's just a shame. It feels like a step down from previous seasons. I think even people that liked this season would have to admit that certain moments from earlier seasons (Mayfeld's confrontation with the imperial officer, Luke's return, etc.) were far more impactful than anything season 3 gave us.

Of course, maybe this season was over before it began. I think most everyone agrees that it was a huge mistake to shoehorn Grogu back with Din. Yes, retcon the one thing that united most fans for the first time in years. That makes sense.

Jon Favreau can say whatever he wants. It's hard to believe that it was his idea to undo the ending he worked so hard to surprise people with.

I'm nervous about Ahsoka now. If that show ends up disappointing as well, then I only have myself to blame for continuing to watch. And sadly, even if what comes next is good, we all have to come to terms with the fact that everything eventually leads to Rey Palpatine.

I don't know how Disney does it. I thought that the extended battle (and no spoilers here) was the best battle that I have ever seen in any Star Wars franchise. I am particularly curious about the Mandalorian take-off. I assume that they start with practical effects and some how, some way, moving flawlessly to CGI. No matter how carefully I look I can't see the transitions. If you've ever seen any of the Kirk Alyn Superman serials, every time Superman flies he's very obviously turned into a cartoon.

I love this series. This has been my favorite season yet. Keep up the great work Disney. I'll be watching.
