A highly unfunny horror/comedy with very little of either involved
kannibalcorpsegrinder3 November 2023
Returning from a pre-wedding celebration, the bachelorette party for a bride-to-be is soon crashed by her former partner that reveals he's the Devil and possesses her to carry out an act of revenge for leaving him, forcing the guests to have to figure out how to combat the figure to save their friend and the wedding.

This was a really underwhelming effort without much going for it. The main gist of the film is that the premise here has potential and could've been something with the idea of the Devil himself appearing to a woman at their bachelorette party and turning it into a madcap series of escalating events that carry on throughout the night as more and more people get involved. This setup has the makings for a fun time out but is greatly undermined by a series of rather bland personal storylines for each of the characters regarding who they're really at the party for or what their past means to them now. None of this is funny or entertaining in the slightest and just goes on endlessly making this section of the film really hard to get through. On top of that, there's also the issue of the film falling flat with its attempts at comedy ending up undermining a lot of the film's progress. As there's never a sense of suspense to be taken from the scenario as the whole idea of this one is never taken seriously, its genre credibility is called into question while the focus on trying to crack jokes about the situation is a major drawback to this one. The constant attempts of the group to deal with the situation with no urgency or fear of what's going on and just feels as though it's all about the film having to happen without any purpose so there's a lot of rather unfunny comedy when the entire point is that the Devil himself is involved so it comes off as a rather disjointed effort.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Violence, and drug use.

Not bad for an indie horror

Not bad at all but not great either. I think a rating of 5 stars is about right. Acting is good, no cringe moments for me. I checked a few people's IMDB profiles to see what else they've done. Writing and story is good. I felt hooked to keep watching right from the start. There were a few minutes when I thought the story was clichè but then it became interesting again - unique twist on a popular theme. I wouldn't call it a horror, the scare value is low, but I did enjoy the humour, actually laughed out loud a few times. Good one liners and funny dialogue here and there. Production value was good as well.

Overall it is one of the better indie movies I've seen. It's worth your while to watch, but I don't think I would watch it a second time.

I enjoyed it

As long as you keep your expectations in check, I think there's something enjoyable here.

It moves fast, the writing is okay and delivered serviceably. The brother is such a prick, but I liked his performance especially. The sisterly interactions were probably the weakest parts of the film but it's only a couple short dialogues.

The effects are pretty minimal but this type of story is character-centric and they do a good job with it.

This is a perfect movie for a lazy Sunday afternoon where you don't want anything too challenging but just want to veg out with a movie that keeps your interest.

Also I just like movies where people try to outsmart Satan and his deal-making.

I liked this a lot... new top 3, maybe 4, favorite devil
Sv179 April 2024
Really liked this one. Enjoyable all the way through. Interesting lore, and "devil rules," and the devil is in the top 3 or 4 of my favorite devils. Mustache was dope, and the burgundy suit was sweet. The cast also worked very well together. Gave it a 10, not because it was one of the best movies ever made, I gave it a 10 because I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through. It could of been another 2 hours long and I wouldn't have cared. Watch it for what it is, and just enjoy yourself. It's a B movie with A squad talent (who only act in B movies...not actual A movie talen). Solid 10 for all the wrong reasons.
