Contemplative movie, some gangsters lost in it, Most Beautiful Scene Ever
haenni017 February 2010
I can't really rate this movie. It is a rather experimental work, revolving around Mt Ararat. There is a hint of story, with some gangster problems forcing the protagonist to leave the city, but this is definitely not the main focus. It would appear that life in Armenia is tough, people are poor and some will not hesitate to rob and kill grannies for some hard cash (do I remember this right?) It is shot very hardcore, no glossy pictures here. I tend to just go along with experimental movies without getting really carried away - that is not to say it was boring; the movie had exciting moments for me, among which some kinky scenes I rather appreciated. And some very beautiful views of Mt. Ararat (A must, one thinks, given the title), and all in all an intriguing atmosphere.

But there is one thing I will remember forever about this film. One of the most beautiful scenes I have seen. The description does it no justice: it's a snake stretching over a gap and landing on a leaf. No description can render the manifold tensions suffusing this sequence. It's a small moment of magic.

Maybe you will find such a nugget of gold of your own in Ararat 14 views, or maybe you will be touched by the same one I was. I recommend giving it a try. I'm giving it an 8 to invite people to have a look.
