This show can't seem to decide if it's Twin Peaks or It's a Wonderful Life. Why does Cheryl talk like she's 60? Why does Hiram talk like he's 12? Why is FANGS the only character acting like a human being? And why is Kevin still an offensive gay stereotype? This show has always been a bonkers mess, but it seems to lack any direction now.

It's not even "funny" bad anymore
barnabas-0060525 March 2021
It's just bad. And it's getting awfully repetitive. The whole thing feels like a lame reboot of season 3 with the relationship dynamics and everything. Kevin's storyline is the only plausible thing in this boring mess.
feels like season 1-4 again

Season 5 had potential to be a really good season but now it feels as though we've reverted back to how it was in s1-4. Once again we've got betty and jughead investigating and veronica and archie doing something to go against hiram it's getting boring now. Betty and Archies friendship is something we should be seeing more of especially as in the last episode archie said he would be there for betty and he didn't even call her once.
Getting back to the strengths of season one

One of the strongest episodes of the season. All the characters showed up some in fun and surprising ways (Cheryl as a marriage therapist?!). It felt like the whole town was involved again. Big season one vibes! Not sure where Kevin's storyline is going but Casey Cott did a great job with the material. Jughead and Betty had an X-Files moment with their investigation which was fun to see.
Mediocrity at its finest..

It brings me back to season one, my personal favorite season. Bughead investigating Polly's disappearance, Varchie teaming up and coaching the bulldogs. I loved it! Seeing Tabitha and Veronica talk, and sit with each other during the football game was cute, I wanna see more of their friendship. I loved Lili's acting in this episode! She was incredible! And Mädchen, she was also amazing. I can't wait until next week! Seeing Betty talk down to Glen will be amazing to watch!
Feels like the audience are gonna be stuck in highschool with the characters forever

If this was the showruner and writers idea of "fresh and exciting." then they have a very wacked idea of new in their heads. Because, we're right back where we started with this show 5 years ago ugh. I only rated it a bit higher than last weeks because I'm loving Tabitha's character, she's the only fresh thing that works. Well that and that someone actually cared about what Betty is going thru. The rest? MEH
Stick with the status quo . . .

I didn't have high hopes for this episode after what happened in the last one, and I was right. Betty & Kevin's storylines were the only decent part of this episode. The show is back to friendships just being implied but never shown. Archie promised to be there for Betty while she's going through everything with Polly, but he was apparently too busy with football. Archie & Veronica are stale and boring. They have no chemistry anymore and everything feels very forced. Characters have no growth from prior season. Veronica was just solving all of Archies problems by throwing her money and clout around. While Archie just seemed confused & allowed Veronica to speak and make decisions for him. But in a prior episode, he had no problem going after squatters in his house and knocking heads. He didn't need Veronica to hold his hand the entire time. Veronica still has daddy issues and her entire plot revolves around men and/or daddy. Jughead & Betty are also boring & played out with their "investigating" storyline. Luckily, their dynamic seemed platonic but I wouldn't be surprised to see things to go romantic since the show seems to be going back the status quo. Jug still cares more about investigating then about his own mental health. The only good thing about this episode was Tabitha. I love her character and I really hope she's not used as a plot device for Betty & Jug. Archie and Betty are far more compatible & less toxic than the same stale couples. I'd even taken Betty & Reggie or Archie & Tabitha together than the same old relationships that we've seen for four seasons.
Stop The Negative Comments

I don't understand the negative comments! Y'all wanted season 1 vibes, you got it, a dance battle, normal cheerleading, amazing football games, I mean this season is way better than the last two seasons, at least there's no stripping in cheerleading. Just appreciate what you have! This reminds me of season one and I'm living for it. I don't care what people say, Riverdale, you are doing GREAT this season. You got me hyped after two boring seasons. Keep it up!
So mediocre....

When we said season 1 vibes, we didn't want an exact copy. Varchie got back into a confirmed relationship way too fast, i'm sure Bughead will be on its way with Tabitha (a person of color) once again being used as a plot device for Bughead just like Toni was. Kevin's storyline was absolutely amazing though, we finally got something realistic for him. Lili and Casey are once again proving that they are the best actors on the show. This show could do better than mirroring season 1, Barchie deserved a chance.
A heartwarming episode

What a wonderful and heartwarming episode! I am really hooked in Mothmen and TBK mystery. I like the characters such as Toni, Fangs, Kevin and Tabitha having more storylines and it was nice to dig into what Kevin is struggling as representing LGBTQ community. Now, I realized why previous episode was weak because it was setting up this heartwarming and interesting episode. It was amazing to see Reggie becoming our man again. This season is going well.
the 1 star is for Betty's storyline

Warning: Spoilers
Betty's storyline was really great but I find it very unrealistic that the only technical "friend" she has in Riverdale, Archie Andrews, who she lives next door to, isn't helping her at all or even interacting with her at all during this time. It's very strange if it was an intentional choice by the writers. I can't imagine any reasonable excuse for his absence. Veronica and Archie's scenes are very dull and their relationship seems to have come out of nowhere. It feels forced and unrealistic. The Jughead and Betty scenes were okay since they didn't fall back into their old dynamic. They bickered and they weren't flirtatious so that made their scenes together a bit less dull than Veronica and Archie's scenes. Tabitha is wonderful. I liked Veronica and Tabitha interacting. I hated Hiram and Veronica's feud. It's been done before, like the Veronica and Archie pairing, and it's boring. Kevin's storyline was sad but it's strange that after 7 years of him being in a relationship with Fangs and them about to be married and become parents, he hasn't let Fangs in. It seems like the Riverdale writers don't understand how relationships work. It was nice that Cheryl was able to admit to having caused problems for Toni.
It's random, isn't it?
