a pleasant character study / slice of life
bill_allison19 January 2022
Reviewed after 2 episodes. Two young girls meet and become friends, then discover they are new stepsisters! They bond over a shared interest in fishing. The title comes from the technique of casting when fly-fishing. The artwork and acting are nice and the growth of their relationship is engaging. It feels a little like the series K-ON, but without the music. Girls should enjoy this, plus people who like fishing. This is wholesome and suitable for all ages.

Great "Laid-Back Camp" Style Anime!
collectible11 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great anime! More about friendship than fishing, but fishing is ever present. This is probably actually the closest anime I've ever seen to Laid-Back Camp (which is my favorite, and very nearly perfect).

I don't even really like fishing, and I still don't have an urge to after watching this show, but I do find it more interesting than I did before (and I'm really hungry for fish now too). I loved the information about different kinds of fishing too! I love camping, biking, hiking, and other outdoorsy things - so it's kind of in my wheelhouse anyway.

The different character dynamics are really interesting! Hiyori and Koharu almost have a similar dynamic to Nadeshiko and Rin (although I think Rin is much more introverted than Hiyori). I think it was great they ended up being sisters, and that their friend group grew together from there. It felt really cozy, and the messages throughout of family, friendship, being yourself, handling new challenges, and even lightly touching on grief, were handled gracefully.

I feel like I can really identify with the characters, and feel like I'm really going on adventures with them.

There isn't really much, if any, fan service (which I more than appreciate, since I absolutely hate it).

The cooking looked really yummy, and made me hungry. I actually wrote down how to cook the rainbow trout from the episode where the girls camped on their own (I hope it turns out ok).

Give this a try if you like hobby anime, or relaxing, slice of life anime.
