I often lambast the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the "same old, same old" feeling of its movies and television — so I feel a little hypocritical calling the revival series "Daredevil: Born Again" my most anticipated Marvel project.
"Daredevil" ran for three seasons on Netflix from 2015-2018, but was canceled afterward. Like its sister shows, it was a casualty of Marvel and Netflix decoupling from their creative partnership. However, since it was the most consistently acclaimed of the Marvel/Netflix shows and the title character has the biggest built-in audience, "Daredevil" will be born again on Disney+.
As for why I'm excited? "Daredevil" was counterprogramming to the quippy fluff of the MCU movies, with a darker tone and more violence. Plus, what can I say, I'm a fan of the character. If you aren't familiar, Matt Murdock is a blind lawyer blessed with enhanced senses to compensate. At night, he patrols...

Exclusive: USA Network’s “blue sky” series of the 2000s and early 2010s are having a moment this year between Suits‘ blockbuster run on Netflix, which broke streaming records and led to a potential offshoot series at NBC, and the Monk reunion movie, which premieres today on Peacock and already is getting awards recognition.
Now the brand is making its way back to where it started, on the USA Network. NBCUniversal’s ad-supported cable net is plotting a return to original scripted programming with light, frothy character-based procedurals in the mold of the lineup from the “blue sky”era that included Monk, Burn Notice, Psych, Royal Pains, White Collar and Suits, Deadline has learned.
After the end of the WGA strike, NBCU scripted executives put out feelers about their USA plans and already have identified a handful of ideas they are considering for development but there are no deals yet,...

“The Recruit” producer P3 Media has scored a seven-figure investment from Ready Entertainment, a company led by Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice A. King, and Ashley Bell.
Founded by journalist Adam Ciralsky (the inspiration for Netflix’s hit Noah Centineo-led spy thriller “The Recruit”), P3 is expanding its lineup with upcoming feature doc “The Return.” That title, produced alongside Ciralsky’s P3 partner Gene Klein, centers on the White House’s efforts to free Americans held hostage abroad. “With unprecedented access, the film chronicles high stakes and unconventional efforts to free Eyvin Hernandez, an L.A. County public defender who has been held in Venezuela since March 2022,” per P3.
“This is an extraordinary film about a remarkable individual who has been held in a foreign prison for the crime of being an American,” said King, who along with Bell will join Ciralsky and Klein as an executive producer on the film.

The doctor is in … the Michigan Senate race. Actor Hill Harper is setting his sights on politics.
The Good Doctor star on Monday announced he is running for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat, challenging U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin for the Democratic nomination.
In an interview with the Associated Press ahead of the announcement, the actor, who owns a home and a coffee shop in Detroit, described himself as a small-business owner, union member and activist and explained how not being a “career politician” would give him an advantage in Congress. “It’s not about party. It’s about people feeling represented,” Harper said. “And being an independent voice in the U.S. Senate is something I believe Michiganders want right now.”
Harper has had a 30-year career in television, co-starring in series such as City of Angels, CSI: NY, Covert Affairs, Limitless and Homeland. He has played Dr.

Producer Gene Klein has joined P3 Media, the production banner behind Netflix’s “The Recruit,” as a partner.
Klein will lead development efforts for the company formed in 2018 by journalist and producer Adam Ciralsky. Klein and Ciralsky are already working together as executive producers on “Recruit,” which was inspired by Ciralsky’s early career as a lawyer with the CIA. The series, created and executive produced by Alexi Hawley, debuted Dec. 16 on Netflix. “The Recruit” has been a strong performer in numerous major territories for the streamer.
“Gene is a creative force with great instincts and incredible relationships across the industry,” Ciralsky said.
P3 Media has a first-look deal with ABC Signature. The company bills itself as an “artist-driven IP accelerator.” Klein is an experienced producer who helped shepherd the pilots for USA Network dramas “Suits” and “Covert Affairs.” He also worked for many years with director-producer Doug Liman and Dave Bartis at Hypnotic.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5.
“Yellowstone” is filled with characters who have strong convictions, and no character has challenged their worldviews quite like Summer Higgins. Played by Golden Globe-nominated actor Piper Perabo, Summer first arrived as a foil to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) in Season 4, an environmental activist whose frequent protests were an annoyance to the then-livestock commissioner. Yet the pair soon became romantically linked, but their romance was cut short when her activism landed her a stiff prison sentence from an unsympathetic judge. Cut to Season 5, and now-Governor Dutton has granted her clemency. But now she’s stuck on house arrest at the ranch, where she’s been at the heart of much of the recent drama at the Yellowstone.
Perabo, who also starred in series such as “Covert Affairs” and films like “Looper,” “The Prestige” and the cult classic “Coyote Ugly,” spoke with Variety...

[This story contains spoilers from Yellowstone‘s season five midseason finale, “A Knife and No Coin.”]
Before Summer Higgins got sentenced to 15 years in prison for civil disobedience and assault on Yellowstone, Piper Perabo had her own experience with a protest arrest.
The actress — who plays the environmental activist turned adviser to Gov. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) on the hit Paramount Network series — was among the more than 200 people who were arrested in 2018 during the confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The Covert Affairs and Coyote Ugly star disrupted the Sept. 4, 2018 hearing and was ejected from the courtroom.
“I told [creator Taylor Sheridan] the story, and I didn’t really know what he was going to do with it or where it was going to go,” Perabo tells The Hollywood Reporter. (Later, while already cast on Yellowstone, she also got arrested at a Jane Fonda climate change protest.)

Two pieces of casting news have arrived for upcoming Marvel shows, though of course, don't go waiting for official confirmation from the studio itself. Still, Deadline brings word that Michael Gandolfini is joining Daredevil: Born Again and Kate Dickie has a role in Loki's second season.
The Daredevil series will, of course see the full lead return for Charlie Cox's blind lawyer/vigilante Matt Murdock after some supremely fun appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and, more recently, She-Hulk. Also aboard? Vincent D'Onofrio, who has brought hulking villain Kingpin to the MCU via Hawkeye.
With Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord as head writers/executive producers, details on Gandolfini's casting are naturally sketchy, though Deadline's sources are saying he's an ambitious guy from Staten Island. Could he be playing someone from the comics? We'll find out closer to the show's arrival, which, since it has yet to shoot,...

Michael Gandolfini is about to make the jump from the mafia-ridden streets of New Jersey to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of New York City. The actor, most well-known for stepping into the shoes of his late father James Gandolfini to portray a younger version of Tony Soprano in last year's "The Many Saints of Newark," is set to board "Daredevil: Born Again."
The news comes courtesy of Deadline, which reports that Gandolfini is set to enter the grounded superhero world of the Man Without Fear as the MCU prepares to officially fold Charlie Cox's portrayal of the fan-favorite hero into the larger universe. A new Daredevil series is in development at Disney+, with Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached to write and executive produce, sources confirmed to Deadline.
Fans have been wanting a new Daredevil series since Netflix’s Daredevil was canceled in 2018 after three seasons. Talk has ramped up recently following the appearance of Daredevil (Charlie Cox) in Spider-Man: No Way Home and main antagonist Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) in Disney+ series Hawkeye. Also adding to the project’s momentum was the recent move of all Marvel Netflix series, including Daredevil, to Disney+.
Marvel Studios does not comment on projects in development.
Corman and Ord co-created and executive produced USA Network series Covert Affairs, starring Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham. They most recently served as executive producers and co-showrunners on NBC drama series The Enemy Within and The Brave, and The CW series Containment.
Variety was first to report the project.

A new “Daredevil” series is moving forward at Disney+, with Variety having exclusively learned from sources that Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write and executive produce.
Rumors have persisted for some time that a Disney+ series about the Man Without Fear was in the works, especially considering that two of the stars of the Netflix “Daredevil” series — Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio — have appeared in recent Marvel projects. Cox once again played Matt Murdock, the secret identity of Daredevil, in the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” while D’Onofrio reprised the role of Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.”
It now appears that the project is picking up steam with the hiring of Corman and Ord, although Marvel has yet to announce anything regarding the show formally.
Reps for Corman and Ord declined to comment. Marvel Studios reps do not comment on projects in development.

With a little help from their friends and parents, they’ll learn that mistakes in life don’t have to derail your life — that no matter what age you are, taking care of a child is no joke — but sometimes, you just have to laugh (or cry) your way through it.
Cicchino plays Brianna, who is sharp-witted, outspoken and unfiltered. She’s emotionally mature beyond her years because she basically grew up playing “mom” to her four younger siblings. Now, she has an 8-month-old of her own. She and Tyler have an unbreakable bond and find each other hilarious. Cicchino is known for starring in “And Just Like That,” “Mr. Iglesias” and “The Sleepover.
