One of our favorite singers, the beautiful Sarah McGuinness is in Los Angeles for a special intimate apppearance at the Room 5 Lounge on Wednesday, June 15 Ms. McGuinness is set to perform hit tracks from the documentary, Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story. McGuinness developed the main theme, .Mama Can You See Me Now., as a series of complete songs in many different forms throughout the Izzard film. It can be heard in musical variations, from the 60.s radio jingle to the 80.s versions, finally coming to a head near the final revelation of the Story. McGuinness.s first single was .Mandy Says. produced by John O.Neill of the Undertones. Her later work drifted more towards the orchestral Barry-influence,...

As Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story arrives on DVD and Blu-ray, Rachel attended a special screening of the documentary. Here's her review...
I have been a die-hard fan of Eddie Izzard since around the age of 14. As is often the case with chance encounters, I discovered his back catalogue in completely the wrong order, by first watching Glorious and then Unrepeatable, followed by Definite Article.
It is safe to say that this non-linear approach to his work only increased the appeal, and made me more determined to find out more about the man who had introduced me so perfectly, at such a young age, to the world of observational and alternative comedy.
Since then, Eddie Izzard, for me, has been catapulted into ‘hero’ status. There isn’t a stand-up performance I haven’t seen, or a film review I haven’t read - if it is any way concerned with him,...

He's a transvestite, heterosexual standup comic and actor who ran 43 marathons in 51 days – as a new DVD documentary makes clear, Eddie Izzard's life has been far from predictable
I noticed something which only a person reading a whole load of Eddie Izzard interviews in one go would ever notice: journalists always talk about his body. Is he fat or thin? Sorry, "heavy" or "sculpted"? Is he wearing men's clothes or women's, are they nice or scruffy?
He comes in for the kind of pretend-neutral, old-fashioned, nostrils-flared appraisal that women get and men almost never do. It's almost as if being a transvestite has unleashed the forces of sexism against him. I met him at the offices of his production company, in London, where he's promoting the DVD release of Believe, a film about the story of his life. He looks great, by the way, but let's leave it at that.

We sent Rachel along to the red carpet premiere of Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story, where she met Derren Brown, Phill Jupitus and Izzard himself for a brief chat...
It was a very cold evening at London’s Cineworld Haymarket, as celebrities gathered to celebrate the DVD launch of Sarah Townsend’s film directorial debut, Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story.
Believe is a documentary following British comedian Eddie Izzard as he delves into his past, the loss of his mother when he was a young boy, his frankly incredible feat of carving a name for himself on the British, and subsequently international, comedy and film scenes.
He has created, almost single handedly and with sheer determination, what is now one of the best and most prolific careers of any British performer.
The film itself was screened at every Cineworld in the country simultaneously, with a live Q&A with Sarah Townsend and Eddie Izzard,...

New York -- Epix is further strengthening its commitment to original programming and particularly documentaries. The premium TV service joint venture of Viacom, Lionsgate and MGM has hired Jill Burkhart as director of documentary development, effective immediately.
The new position was filled following Epix's recent first Emmy nomination for "Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story," which chronicles the comedian's rise to fame. Its slate of documentaries has also included Academy Award winner "The Cove" and Michael Moore classic "Bowling for Columbine," among others.
Burkhart most recently served as the executive director of the Nantucket Film Festival, which she founded along with her brother in 1996. Previously, she worked with Madstone Films as a curator for its Very Indie Film Series and led screenwriters' retreat the Screenwriters Colony.
"Jill's experience working with independent film producers, studios, and festivals uniquely qualifies her for this new role in deepening Epix's original programming slate," said Laverne McKinnon,...

Collette won an Emmy for her role on the show, whose third season will begin production mid-September in Los Angeles for a 2011 premiere. British actor and standup comedian Izzard, repped by UTA and the Collective, was recently featured in the documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story, which was nominated for an Emmy in the best nonfiction special category.

Eddie Izzard is best known as a transvestite standup comic. He is also a film, television, and Tony-nominated dramatic actor. He's a political activist for Britain's Labour Party; within 10 years he expects to run for mayor of London. Also an endurance athlete, he recently completed 43 marathons in 51 days to benefit Sport Relief, a charity that benefits the poorest and most vulnerable populations in the U.K. and across the globe.Currently he is performing on Broadway, replacing James Spader in David's Mamet's "Race," and as Izzard sees it, all the pieces of his life inform one another, incongruous as they may seem. "In politics you have to pay attention to detail and be precise, and that's especially useful for Mamet's language," Izzard says in his dressing room before a performance. "My own diction had gotten sloppy, which works for me in my standup act. But in politics you have to articulate,...

Welcome back to Moment of Truth, Movieline's new weekly spotlight on the best in nonfiction cinema. This week, we hear from the director of Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story, which was released this week on DVD.
The cross-dressing comic and actor Eddie Izzard wasn't always the "cross-dressing comic and actor Eddie Izzard." Sarah Townsend knew him back when he was just another struggling performer desperate for a break, working round the clock and riding a unicycle for whatever spare change passers-by on the street might have in their pockets. And since 2003, Townsend has been piecing those days -- and the rest in between -- together for her debut feature documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story. I know, I know: "Why does Eddie Izzard need his own documentary?" You'd be surprised. It's quite the inspiration, really -- motivational substance for people who hate that kind of stuff. It's also a fascinating...

Very little in life came easily for the British comedian and actor Eddie Izzard. When he was six, his mother died of cancer, and shortly thereafter he was sent away to boarding school. He suffered from dyslexia and had an incurable penchant for cross-dressing. After spending years struggling to make ends meet as a street performer, he began to get noticed in London’s comedy clubs and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Izzard’s breakthrough in the U.S. came in the late 1990s with his Dress to Kill comedy tour (broadcast on HBO in 1999). More recently, he delivered a tour de force performance as Charlie Chaplin in Peter Bogdanovich’s Old-Hollywood mystery The Cat’s Meow, was part of the ensemble cast of Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, and starred in the FX Network original series The Riches. A documentary about his life, Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story,...

Eddie Izzard, actor, comedian and “executive transvestite,” has never been at loss for material. Meandering hilariously through topics as wide-ranging as The Battle of Hastings, Medusa’s hairdresser, and cavemen inventing fire so they can eat something other than salad, the desultory stand-up comic uses all of history as his playground. “It’s fantastic,” he says. “I’ve discovered that history was this amazingly unkept place. It makes you sound so clever to know that Alexander the Great’s dad was called Phil.” Now, with his latest special, Eddie Izzard: Live From Wembley, and the documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story airing back-to-back tonight (Epix,...
