This film may have benefitted from airing after a truly awful shark attack movie.

Warning: Spoilers
My husband fell asleep with the remote control in his hands after putting on a terrible, so-bad-it-wasn't-even-wonderfully-awful shark film, the name of which I don't even know.

Killer Shark followed, and I had a lap full of complicated knitting, so I couldn't get up and immediately change it. And a little part of me is glad I didn't.

The film is in Mandarin with subtitles - which isn't easy when kitting - but the English subtitles seemed to have been provided by a mediocre translation application without any sort of review or editing by an English language expert, so much of it was nonsensical and kind of hilarious.

However, the story was clear and cliche enough that full comprehension of the script wasn't particularly necessary, and frankly the tone of the actors' voices clearly conveyed the little bits of story woven into the action. Flirting, teasing, closeness, ex lovers, sacrifice, and finally, guilt and heartache.

This is no masterpiece, but it served as entertaining.

However it was one of three shark movies in a row in which the shark said RAAAWR as it was attacking. Guys, sharks don't have vocal chords.

A decent remake
gdjester11 April 2023
This movie is a remake of The Reef, whether or not it wants to admit that. Same overall plot. A boat capsizes and most of the party try to swim for shore. In this one it seems to be the same shark that chases down both those left behind and those that take off. Other than that, its pretty much the same. Of course, The Reef is a very good movie and this one doesn't quite live up to it predecessor. Still, I found it to be a pretty decent flick, the storyline kept me engaged, and there were some decent shark attack scenes. Yes, the shark is CGI for the most part, but there were some practical effects used for close up attack shots which added some realism.

This won't be one that sticks with you and you remember for years to come, but its worth checking out on a rainy day to pass some time. I think that's all most of us want from a movie like this anyway.

Terrible acting and sfx. Save yourselves.

The reviewer who said this was decent..you'll be in my prayers. This is freaking awful. The acting is terrible, vacillating between wooden and irritatingly over the top. (Especially the female actors. I hope they all quit and found other employment after this monstrosity.) And the CGI shark..there are no words. I spent most of it wishing death on every one of the characters. I was fooled by the overall score being somewhat high...so I decided I had to put one in so no one else would suffer my fate. If you're thinking, I like shark movies, it can't be that bad. Why yes, yes it can, and then some.
