Good, It Gets the Job Done
ahmadz8394 November 2022
We're halfway into the season, and the show's pacing has started to drag a little; the fourth episode, "Jackpot", is a slow burn. The episode's big reveal at the end does a few things:

  • Answers some of our burning questions.

  • Ups the stakes.

  • Adds to the already lengthy list of mysteries that remain unanswered.

Moreover, "Jackpot" also gives us insight into who might be the villains. A gradual build-up isn't always a bad thing; if the ending is any indication, things are progressing nicely here. Great work so far; I hope they can maintain this level of quality. As usual, I look forward to the next episode.

Rating: 7.2/10.

Not bad but hardly anything to do with the book
laubepiotr4 November 2022
Advertising this show as 'based on a book of William Hobson' is a shame. What we have here are the names of the main characters and the plot of time travel. If we take this aside the show is actually good. Not as good as the book that offers much more in terms of the story, specific language, characters. So read it!

I hope at some point the show will more open up for more ideas, and explain how the "artefacts" from the future make it into the past. The Pheripherial book is unique as it neglects the tradition Time Travel paradox - if you change the past it affects the future... here we have a change in the past - creates new future thread - completly independent. So we can have infinite number of threads in the past that will never change the future.

There's not much action, but...
jordymadueno4 October 2023
We are not seeing much action, but we're enjoying pure sci-fi lore. For example, now we know what happened in the world and why there are so few people left.

We also get to understand more about Lev's intentions, as well as, we meet his wife for the first time. Furthermore, we discover that they are mainly business people with no morale for that matter.

I like how the story is getting more mature and giving a better picture of such reality. For example, the fact that Flynne is having some health problems adds more nuance to the risks.

I really like where this is going. After all, we cannot keep being such adrenaline junkies. We gotta learn to enjoy some slow-paced plot development. Especially, on plots so complex like this one.

I do like some good character background, character development, and a strong rational foundation for the story.

Fantastic TV, great development and the linchpin episode
namob-436734 November 2022
This is the episode that ties together the show, tell us what is going on and develop several characters at the same time as we get all the exposition. Absolutely brilliant TV and anyone who watches this show have to see until the 4th episode, this is where all the strings and threads go to be tied up together.

At first, during the first 5min or so I almost felt like the pacing was off, almost boring, but as the episode progress we understand what this is telling us and what is what.

Acting is getting to phenomenal levels, and I cannot wait to see more of this. One of the best shows on TV right now and should not be missed.

A strong 9/10.

S1.E4 - Mediocre [7/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E4) My Live Reaction / Review for The Peripheral Season 1 Episode 4 ''Jackpot''. I gave the previous episode a rating of 7/10. Let's see if this episode is better or worse. The previous two episodes made me sleepy, I really hope that this one is good. It seems like in 2075 a nuclear war has happened or something like that. What's wrong with Flynne's hand? The deputy seems like he wanna help but Burton and Flynne want to do this alone. Flynne is having a seizure? What the hell? It's obvious by now that this device or dimension, whatever you wanna call it, is hurting Flynne. She could die if she keeps on using it. Wow the future seems very depressing, pandemics and catastrophes, famine etc. Overall this episode was ok, my rating is 7/10.

NOOO! WHYYY!

I gave "eights" ratings for the first three episodes, then this episode came out of the shadows and is so boring in comparison!

*Those* are going to be the driving plot for the future dystopia?! People are absolutely saturated with them, and watch these fiction series - especially sci fi, **for escape**!

I'll finish the series regardless (only four episodes left), but I have to express my extreme disappointment with these writers, that unless there's a drastic change soon, have.squandered an absolutely brilliant start to what could have been a fresh classic.

Imo, even The. Mandelorian had one bad episode, so I hope this one was a glitch...

Jackpot

Warning: Spoilers
This show has yet to have a really bad episode, but I won't call this a great one either. This gave us some more faces and names to try and learn and follow and determine what their goals were in the grand scheme of things, but none of that was overly exciting either.

The Peripheral has found a lane, the first episode was the introduction and now each week they're diving deeper and deeper down this rabbit hole. For fans of the books, and fans of high-concept drama I am sure they are loving it, but I kind of wish they would dial it back just a little bit and take things slow so we can process everything.

They're really stretching this story out
markwha7 November 2022
Despite this episode being the shortest coming in at a hair under an hour, it really felt like it was the longest and I think we can all agree that the show is becoming hard to watch. I had to give it two rounds this time because despite being wide awake when I started it the first time, it managed to literally put me to sleep.

There's still an interesting story buried in here somewhere and each episode has its interesting points but one of the biggest problems is that they're much to few and far between. The only thing worth watching in this whole episode was the last few minutes where we get a shred more info about the overarching story but how anyone could stay tuned and actually maintain interest up until then is beyond me.

The current score of this episode is a 7.7 which is a score much better suited for the whole show rather than it's current rating of 8.3 (which has also been dropping steadily with more and more reviews coming in). It seems as if they're trying to lay the foundation for a long running show with an evolving story and cast such as the 100. While I'd say the overhype might be enough to get a second season, I doubt it would get much farther than that. Their are plenty of other better sci-fi shows to watch right now and certainly better ASMR videos out there on YouTube.

This show simply doesn't have anything to offer that other successful sci-fi does. Does it shock you? No. Does it thrill you? No does it gross you out? No. Does it arouse you? No. Does it interest you? Barely. These are all things that MA sci-fi shows beed to do in order to justify themselves and maintain their audiences and explains why the shows ratings are beginning and are likely to continue to drop.

Just gets worse and worse
simonsaysboro5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I feel I have to state how really bad this show, and how boring it is; how it parades around as a sci-fi but isn't. It's just plain awful.

If I have to hear that fake southern drawl one more time, I think I am going to throw something at the TV. Chloe Grace Moretz cannot act, and her fake drawl makes it even worse.

Once again the family dynamics are over the top and pointless. Burton's hot headedness is too much. Oh I'm going to go to the future and slam some people around because they're hurting my little sister. Boo freaking hoo. It's what YOU signed her up for.

T'Nia Miller's character, what is she even in the show for? Is she the villain? We know very little about her and her reason for being here.

The show is going nowhere fast, and it's becoming unwatchable. We still don't know what happened between 2030 and the future, with the exception we do see that London seemed to be destroyed at some point.

Spare yourself and don't watch. Avoid it.
