The series has picked up some momentum

By episode 8 we're past the middle of the 21st Century, and CO2 concentration is approaching 600 ppm. Nicholas Bilton is a Billionnaire (or Trillionnaire?) who is on trial at the international court for the alleged crime of 'Ecocide', by profiteering off of CO2, allegedly being both the disease and the medicine, playing both sides of the global tragedy. Whilst he lives a life of luxury, the rest of the world suffers, or opts to basically die and have their likeness uploaded into the cloud.

The series continues the thread of previous episodes, with quite a few callbacks and familiar faces. Whilst episode 1 I felt was clumsy and disorganized, by episode 8 we're in. The only annoyance is the over-reliance on exposition, where at times it sounds like the character is lecturing the audience in no unsubtle way about climate change and the effects of CO2 on temperature. If you make a series 2 (and I really hope you do), please hide the exposition in the background, or remember 'show don't tell'.

Overall I'm really happy with how this series developed. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, and dystopian films, so this was just about the perfect mix. The sci-fi technology seamlessly fit in, and the effects were great, like watching a blockbuster movie. And as a bonus, it does seem like it could be set in our own timeline; looking at how we have absolutely ignore the warnings of scientists these past 50 years, and failed to meet climate goals. Sobering. Not exactly a feel-good series, but one that does really let you contemplate and reflect.

The end or the beginning??
Extrapolations Episode 8, titled 2070: Ecocide, stars Kit Harington, Sienna Miller, Diane Lane, Edward Norton and other prominent actors. The series is created by Scott Z. Burns and produced by Burns, Gregory Jacobs, Dorothy Fortenberry, and Media Res' Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer. The series has 8 episodes with a runtime of 50-60 minutes. The episode begins with Decime, Bilton's foster daughter, listening to Tyrone Downs. The episode takes place in 2070 and Bilton is in his 70s, looking young. He is under heat for ecocide, which is causing the destruction of the earth with his business. Bilton appoints Martha Russell as Alpha's temporary CEO until his trial ends. Lucy Adobo is the prosecutor who wants Bilton to pay for his acts. Tyrone Downs has protested against Alpha's mining process, which is why Bilton hates him. At the International Criminal Court Tribunal, three programmed judges (AI) are taking up Bilton's case. Rebecca Shearer, a witness from episodes 1 and 2, exposes Bilton as the cause of fauna species being extinct. Bilton's lawyer, Ariel Turner, states that Shearer has been using Alpha's benefits and is now turning up against the CEO for a crime he didn't make. This makes the court dismiss her testimony and she kills herself. Martha introduces Bilton's Newcomen technology to Alpha investors, which will help reduce carbon dioxide levels. Jonathan Chopin, Gita's husband and Rowan's father, testifies against Bilton, claiming it is not intended to heal the world, but to make things worse so he can gain more wealth. Ariel Turner accuses Chopin of illegally using Alpha's drones to pollute the atmosphere. Jonathan is dismissed from the court due to his allegations being personal. Decima watches the trial live and sends a message to help her father, but Bilton destroys it as he doesn't want anyone to know about his adopted daughter. Bilton visits Lucy to trigger her emotions and reveals that Martha killed Tyron Downs, which ultimately reveals that the current Downs is only an AI loop of the artist. Lucy meets Martha and reveals what Bilton revealed about her. Martha is pissed and decides to bring everything to light, and Lucy takes care of the broadcasting process. Bilton loses his power in Alpha and the ICC once again brings his case up and convicts him. Though the criminal Nicholas Bilton is imprisoned, the series season 1 delivers a strong message and every episode is mindblowing. Truly an eye-opening series to stream. Bilton discusses with Martha how people hypocritically think comfort doesn't come with a cost, and Rebecca struggles to get proper medical help due to Alpha. To acquire Alpha, Martha decides to leak information to Lucy about Newcomen, which is an idea stolen by Bilton. On day 3 of the trial, an ex-employee of a bank linked to Alpha brings in the name of Matafele Kabua, who is the scientist behind the device's function and the real father of Decima. This revelation shuns Decima and makes her realise that Bilton has stolen her from her origin. Kabua is dead, and there are chances of Bilton being the reason behind it.
