Feels Half-Baked
timbirtv9 December 2021
I love Sunny, but I'd be lying if I said this episode didn't feel off. I appreciated a lot of the callbacks, but an episode like "A Very Sunny Christmas" does a much better job of showing why the characters turned out the way they did.

For the first four episodes, it feels as if they were on a really tight schedule in terms of filming. The truth is, the show simply doesn't feel as natural as it did prior to season 13. Hope the last four episodes feel much more like classic Sunny.

Surprised people are as low on this as they are

This episode is perfectly fine, honestly feels like something they would've done in the early seasons. The gang doesn't waste as much time with obnoxious meta commentary, most of the jokes come from the actual characters themselves, and there's good references to how the characters used to act early in the shows run. The botched drug deal and having Dennis eager to hang out with his dad only to watch frank have sex with prostitutes were great jokes. I don't get the negativity here.

Very funny episode
MajesticMajesty13 December 2021
As a veteran sunny fan, I thought this was hilarious. Charlie walking in roller skates was too good. This season has been pretty good but this is my favorite so far. Feels like a classic sunny episode to me.

Underrated throwback

I love this episode. It brought it back to the beginning. Loved seeing their younger selves and how they came to own a bar. I saw some moron comment on how the actors can't pass for younger versions of themselves. Are you watching the same show as everyone else? This isn't some Hollywood Oscar contender. It's a comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously. If the believability of the characters' ages bothered you, how have you been watching for 15 seasons? Have you watched 160 episodes of a show just to troll it? Sad. The actors being older and playing younger adds to the humor. You clearly don't have a sense of humor.

Brilliant and hilarious episode , i want to give it 11 stars !

Seeing them in 1998, and all kind of references to things in previous seasons and why those things happened is awesome !!

10/10.

I love this show, why so not funny now?
jonasarjunior10 December 2021
What is happening? I want to laugh, there just aren't any punchlines in these new episodes. Where is the music between scenes? It sounds like a drama. I can't tell what the difference is, but something's off. The episodes are smart, but not comedic.

A couple chuckles and that's it.

Obviously not every episode needs to be hilarious, but this episode didn't have much to offer at all. It didn't even have many jokes, funny or not. Not bad but not great.

Episode 1503

A well-done episode here that made you miss the glory days of roller rinks. Some good gags and it was nice to see the characters take on slightly different roles.

"Mark my words"
jackedxupp13 December 2021
Mark my words, this is gonna be considered the best season of this show! I mean ... after 15-16 years there's bound to be some decline in quality. There's still bits and pieces of the old humor and rawness that existed before, more of it like in ep 4. The backstory isn't consistent at all though still its okay/decent enough. Which isn't the standard that can satisfy you when it comes to its always sunny. Hopefully the last 4 episodes will be better at connecting the jokes and the humor won't fall as flat. The show in its prime created such a level that it'd make sense that it can't fill its own shoes but there's still room for more, and I'm counting on them to explore it. One thing that may not bug others is the colorfulness of the past few seasons. Idk if it existed for longer period of time but I miss the somewhat dull, grimy scene that the bad or certain cameras/filters created. It was more fitting to the circumstances created by the gang.

I found it very funny start to finish , even the atmosphere is super fun, Charlie and mac sell weed was hilarious ! The only thing that threw me off was Dee being nice ughhh I didn't understand that choice.

I didn't laugh once
treborbasset10 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How could anyone have thought this episode was a good idea? Are they trying to cash in on 90s nostalgia? It failed.

This doesn't feel like Sunny any more. The banter is gone, the atmosphere, the natural dialogue, the musical segues, the absurd scenarios. It's all gone.

Why did anyone think these ageing plastic balding monsters approaching 50 could pass for younger than we saw them in the early seasons? Their wrinkled, angular expressionless faces are bad enough, the actors themselves cannot convey youth any more. It's embarrassing to watch.

But it's not just the appearances and acting. The story completely vitiates established narratives from the early seasons. The first encounters with Frank no longer make sense. Gun Fever no longer makes sense. Dennis and Dee go on welfare no longer makes sense. Dee's evolving character during seasons one and two no longer makes sense - we are now to believe she hit herself in the head and became a horrible person instantly, only to become normal again by the time of season 1, and then gradually get worse again.

Frank's parts, never mind the fact he cannot possibly pass for younger than the first two seasons, he can't even pass for younger than the awful Frank's brother episode, but the one joke here was so telegraphed that it was painful to slowly witness it unfold. And again, it just ruins the early Frank/Dennis episodes. They George Lucas'd it.

Everything about this episode is an insult to fans, and, most importantly of all, it wasn't funny. I think this show is done.

The worst Sunny i've ever seen

Warning: Spoilers
This is a terrible episode.

I didn't laugh once.

No real jokes, totally pointless script.

That's three poor episodes in a row.

Sunny has jumped the shark.

So conflicting...
lovettxx27 March 2022
Backstory conflicts. If this was written differently, maybe used some non-gang member characters to confirm the timeline.

Cool idea of an episode with not too much to stand on ... this noodle episode wasn't Al Dante.

Not sure how to rate this either.
jpapanone15 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was def better than 1st 2 episodes...so...I'm ping ponging between a 5 and 6. Def not a 7.

There was something off on this. It was much closer to an older episode of Sunny...but still has newer season stink on it.

And like other reviewers...the timeline of this does not work at all.

It conflicts with already established narratives.

Seems like they could have done a whole lot more with this episode than they did.

No clue why they chose this path...but I've said that about a lot of IAS episodes last few seasons.

I'll have to watch this again before giving a rating. But at least this wasn't so bad as to render it unwatchable.
