Evil personified

Wow Renee Zellweiger is amazing in this. She switches from sticky sweet to evil witch with just an expression. Her mannerisms, speech etc are chilling. Wasn't sure what to make of the first episode but I think this series has been done well.. a true story and so infuriating to think it took so long to catch up with Pam's misdeeds.

Small Town Justice

Pam's plan comes to fruition in the courtroom. Zellweger gives another fine performance ably assisted by the wonderful Judy Greer. Greer delivers a fabulous rendition of the prosecutor ably assisted by the judge to stitch up the husband in unwitting concert with Pam. Knowing how the story ends does remove some dramatic tension going forward, but this is compelling tv.

The Verdict!
Hitchcoc27 December 2023
The collusion continues here. This is the courtroom part of the first trial and Pam is loaded for bear. She is so full of it and yet the bozos in the jury fall for it. She struts into the courtroom and limps out. Her testimony is all over the place. She lies time after time about what she said in the police report. Let's face it. In a neutral court she would have been sitting in jail already. She purgers herself over and over. Her reason is that she has brain damage. The judge should be sent packing and lose everything. She is manipulating the trial. Her rulings don't allow the man's lawyer to present the most critical testimony. The judge feels he is bullying Pam when he is merely asking her questions which go to her credibility. She also allows Pam to destroy the lives of the daughters by taking away their rightful insurance benefits. Meanwhile, we see that Pam is ruthless. Her neighbor talks to her and she kills her pet squirrel. It's the first step on the road to fear and loathing in the town--and they deserve it.

Hard to watch, one can only hope it wasn't this painfully obvious in the real trial. However, knowing how small towns work... it probably was this bad.
