Saw the Screener
bluethoughtstudio22 March 2010
I was lucky enough to see the screener recently. The story unfolds poetically through the visuals and I was impressed with the quality of the acting. The production quality is quite impressive. I am interested in seeing more work by this writer/director.

I was intrigued by the opening montage of shots, there is a quality of imagery that is rare in small budget productions. The sensibility of the film, pays homage to french new wave cinema. The use of black/white and sparse dialogue refers directly to representational films of the genre. The raw emotion of the the characters is matched by the the director's sensitivity in capturing the barren winter of the prairies. The tension between the two characters is also mirrored by stark imagery of the house and it's surroundings. The use of perspective in the shots also adds to the flow of narrative in the piece.
