"Prisoners of Love" introduces the Ice King, a presumably insane king that lives in the Ice Kingdom who captures princesses for (hopeful) marriage. He's an...odd character, and I'd like to learn about his backstory later on. I haven't looked online yet (for spoiler preventing reasons), but I hear people say he has a deep-ish backstory.

This episode is not as funny as "Trouble In Lumpy Space", and doesn't have the most interesting storyline, since it all takes place in a dungeon, but I still enjoyed this episode. With the wacky King and Jake's "key hand", I think this is an episode worth while.

That gold owl was a little harsh though, geez.

Putting Princesses in Jail is Wrong

This is a cute little episode Which is most notable for introducing us to the Ice King. A major player in the world of AT.

We learn about his sick obsessions and dastardly methods. We also get an insight into his fear of being an outcast. He wants to be loved but Is unable to behave appropriately around others and always resorts to domination and oppressive tactics.

I like the variety of random princesses we meet, reinforcing the oddness of the show with characters like Hotdog Princess.

The story isn't overly creative - he has put a bunch of princesses in jail and Finn must free them. However, using a cliched fantasy plot like this is a good way for the show to illustrate how it offers a unique style when it comes to telling such stories. These aren't really damsels in distress and the ice king isn't a very menacing captor. They can escape by simply starting up a fake dance party (very Adventure Time).

Probably my least favourite of the first 3 episodes. A bit too much filler. Still a solid one though.

The episode is about ice king kidnapped princesses actually SEVERAL, that's a good idea but the episode is not that good, it's a bit boring, but do what Huh.

"Prisoner's of Love" (1x03) Review

The plot of "Prisoners of Love" is about as basic as it gets for Adventure Time-the Ice King kidnaps a bunch of princesses, and Finn and Jake have to rescue them. It's entertaining but not particularly engaging to watch. Thankfully, the show doesn't go back to this well too often.
