Hollywood actress Isla Fisher is no stranger to comedy. She has been a part of a number of memorable films in the genre including Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Hot Rod. You would think Fisher would have gotten used to the occasionally bizarre requirements of the genre and the lengths that actors will go to for a laugh.
But as it turns out, the actress was not prepared for one particular scene involving an elephant in the movie Isla Fisher made with her then-husband Sacha Baron Cohen, 2016’s The Brothers Grimsby. Cohen, of course, is known for pushing the boundaries of comedy like no other actor working today. Things got so intense that Fisher regretted bringing her parents on set to watch the scene being filmed.

On Thursday’s episode of the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast, “Dicks: The Musical” director Larry Charles opened up about why he steers clear of working on big-budget movies.
“I try to make things like ‘Dangerous Comedy’ or this movie [‘Dicks: The Musical’] — this movie’s a very low-budget movie,” Charles said of the raunchy A24 musical. “Politically for me, ethically for me, I find it offensive when movies cost $250 million and the world is in the state that it’s in. Charles, known for his directorial collaborations with Sacha Baron Cohen and his work on such sitcoms as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld,” slammed the Hollywood studio system, calling it a “media monopoly system” in the United States.

In 2008, cable news commentator Bill Maher unleashed his documentary Religulous on the public. In the film, Maher questions religion’s place in society while holding a microscope on contemporary practices, methods of worship, and actions taken by extremist groups in the name of benevolent forces. As Maher travels to different areas where religion is a powerful presence, he explores the organized religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, TV evangelism, and Scientology, with detours into pagan cults and ancient Egypt. You can see how a movie like this would be controversial. What if we told you a Religuluous 2 could be on the way?
Speaking with Sharon Osbourne on his Club Random With Bill Maher podcast, Maher revealed he recently went to dinner with Borat and Religulous director Larry Charles. While sitting comfortably on his set adorned with libations, cheeba, and faux brickwork, Maher told Osbourne, “We might do a sequel,” concerning his 2008 documentary.

In hindsight, the summer of 2012 might be one for the ages, with huge films like "The Hunger Games," "Prometheus," "Men in Black 3," "Magic Mike," "Ted," and "The Dark Knight Rises" (among many others) coming out in just the span of a few months. New franchises, old franchises made new again, surprise hits -- it was a summer that had everything. It even had some legendarily huge flops.
To that end, Universal Pictures and director Peter Berg ("Hancock") suffered a brutal loss with "Battleship," a big-budget adaptation of sorts based on the best-selling board game of the same name. The film boasts an A-list cast led by the likes of Taylor Kitsch ("John Carter"), Liam Neeson ("Taken"), Alexander Skarsgård ("True Blood"), and pop star Rhianna. Given that the board game doesn't have much story, the filmmakers crafted a story that sees the Navy trying to stop an alien invasion.

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

Prime Video has secured the return of Dave Bautista (Knock at the Cabin), Chloe Coleman (Avatar: The Way of Water), Kristen Schaal (What We Do in the Shadows), Ken Jeong (The Afterparty) and others for their My Spy sequel, My Spy: The Eternal City. Among the new additions to the ensemble in the second installment are Anna Faris (Mom), Craig Robinson (The Office) and Flula Borg (Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin).
An action-comedy from STXfilms that Prime Video picked up for release amidst the theatrical shutdown of the Covid pandemic, My Spy told the story of JJ (Bautista), a hardened CIA operative who found himself at the mercy of precocious nine-year-old Sophie (Coleman), after being sent undercover to surveil her family. Schaal played JJ’s tech specialist colleague Bobbi, with Jeong as his boss, David.

Considering that the disarray in the House of Representatives is, at this point, downright comical, it’s not exactly a shock that actual comedians will want to weigh in on the situation.
Enter David Mandel, who served as a writer, producer and showrunner on HBO’s hit series “Veep.” On Thursday, he shared a letter to Twitter from “Jonah Ryan,” who on the show was an impeached vice president, offering his services as the new House speaker. “The constitution doesn’t actually say that the Speaker must be a member of Congress, so it can be anyone and since Elon Musk has made it clear that he doesn’t want the job, I believe I am the next, logical choice,” the letter reads.
You can read the letter below, which includes “the reasons the J-Man could be speaker” and comparing Nancy Pelosi’s white suit to Deion Saunders:

Sir Ben Kingsley is one of the most acclaimed actors of his time. He's received countless accolades throughout his career and has graced both the silver screen and the stage with a wide variety of roles. It's pretty amazing how eclectic his selection of parts is. Here's someone who can play both the titular role in "Gandhi" and pop up as the silly bad guy in the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy "The Dictator."
Kingsley's most famous roles in films like "Bugsy," "House of Sand and Fog," and "Death and the Maiden" are often cited among his best, but his career is more complex than simply a list of accolades. While his early work distinguished him as someone who would leave behind a grand legacy, Kingsley is still a working actor that continues to pop up in new projects. With its list of new releases for October 2022, Amazon Prime Video isn’t fully aboard the spooky season train but it is at least spooky adjacent.
The biggest release this month is Prime Video original series The Peripheral on Oct. 21. While not outright horror, it does sound more than a little unnerving. Based on a 2014 sci-fi novel by William Gibson, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a woman in a near-future society who may have just discovered an alternate reality. Fittingly, Westworld‘s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers.
The other TV series of note in October is The Devil’s Hour on Oct. 28. This British thriller comes form Steven Moffat and tells the story of a woman who wakes up at 3:33 a.m. (the devil’s hour) each night to receive a disturbing vision.
October is home to a couple of Amazon movies of note as well.

Exclusive: In one of the the highest-profile showrunner moves between major studios/streamers in awhile, Barry co-creator/executive producer Alec Berg has signed a big overall deal with ABC Signature. Under the rich, three-year pact, the top comedy writer-producer-director will develop new series projects for the studio across all platforms.
Berg is coming from HBO where he has been based for more than 15 years, the last eight under overall deals. He continues as an executive producer on Barry, which he co-created with series’ star and fellow executive producer Bill Hader. It is unclear yet whether the upcoming fourth season of the acclaimed dark comedy will be its last.
A 23-time Emmy nominee, Berg has spent the bulk of his TV career to date in two places, NBC and HBO.
An alum of the famed Harvard Lampoon, Berg, along with Jeff Schaffer, moved to Los Angeles to pursue careers in comedy writing.

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.
That being said, they’re transitioning from the world of fantasy to science fiction with their new series “The Peripheral.” Touted as being from the creators of HBO’s “Westworld,” Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the time-traveling series is based on author William Gibson’s bestselling sci-fi novel.
Per an official synopsis: “The Peripheral” centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her. “The Peripheral” is...

Sharon Stone wasn’t getting the bids that she wanted.
Around midnight on Friday night in France, after a dazzling fashion show on the lawn of a mansion in Antibes, the actor-turned-emcee was auctioning off 32 one-of-a-kind gowns by designers such as Versace, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Givenchy and Balenciaga at the amfAR Cannes gala.
Joined onstage by the 32 models who’d walked a makeshift runway — which was so slippery, two of them had tripped — Stone was ready to pocket a big check for the non-profit devoted to fighting HIV/AIDS.
But the money didn’t flow as freely as the bottles of champagne that amfAR waiters poured over a five-hour dinner for a crowd of about 400 European high rollers, business titans and oligarchs.
“Do I have a bid for $200,000!” Stone said. “Let’s go.” After not a single hand went up immediately, Stone looked out into the crowd with exasperation. “What a bunch of cheap motherfuckers,...

Back in 2006 British TV comedian Sacha Baron Cohen took the world by storm when he wrote, produced, and starred in the outlandish mockumentary film “Borat.” The title character, a guileless Kazakh journalist, had already appeared in various projects over the preceding decade, including the HBO series “Da Ali G Show” and the 2002 film “Ali G Indahouse.” It was not until he was given his own film, however, that he truly broke into the zeitgeist and his creator experienced his greatest success.
Though he had a BAFTA Award and four Emmy bids to his name prior to “Borat,” Baron Cohen’s popularity rose to new heights upon the film’s release and his comedic genius attracted widespread acclaim. The film outgrossed “Ali G Indahouse” tenfold and became a serious awards contender in 2007. Baron Cohen ended up winning a Golden Globe for his acting and earned WGA and Oscar nominations for co-writing the screenplay.
