Maybe this show is just horribly dated (but it's less than 15 years old?...) but wow the approach Samantha Brown takes to tourism is totally tone deaf. In 2023 this travelogue could easily be titled "Karen Goes Shopping in Asia."
Brown isn't overtly offensive, she's just massively racist and entitled, offering her bizarre praise for British Imperialism in East Asia. There is actually a whole scene in the Hong Kong episode entirely devoted to justifying the UK's long unwelcome empire there.
People in Japan loved how polite she was, but even when Sam isn't being mighty white, she's an enormous bore. As basic and bare bones as it gets, Samantha Brown's Asia is for the sort of people who stay in Western hotels and go to the mall when they visit far away lands.
