Amusing little short that is unfortunately stronger in the build than it is in the punch line (SPOILERS)

A child plays in the middle of a miscellaneous pile of stuff that has been dragged out onto his lawn – or at least, that is how it appears to an adult, but really young Delmer is building a machine.

This short has a very engaging majority of the film. For the majority we are with Delmer and this cute kid is industrious and serious in his construction of a machine – even though this mainly means just hitting stuff with a plastic hammer and having his lunch break with his bear colleague (both wearing the correct PPE of course). In this part of the film (which is 95% of it) I really found it quite engaging and quite charming because it looks good (bright, bold colours well captured) and it has an air of simple wonder that comes with children playing. I liked this a lot.

The punch-line to this is that his machine fires something into the air somehow and Delmer watches but then is shocked to see something falling back to earth – something that turns out to be God. This is sudden and out of nowhere and this surprise does add to it in terms of humour, but it is an odd finish to the short – it made me chuckle a little bit, mainly because of Delmer's reaction to what he has just done, but it did still leave me wanting the short that I had been enjoying – not the one that just landed at the very end. Worth a look for what it does well though.
