On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

One key thing to remember, when watching a "Treehouse of Horror" episode of "The Simpsons," is that everything is a reference to something. Sometimes the thing the show's parodying is instantly recognizable, like season 5's take on "The Shining" or season 2's take on "The Raven." But if you find yourself watching a fun "Treehouse" segment and not recognizing where the story's from, that's a sign that you're missing out on a really fun piece of pop culture.
Such is the case with "The Twilight Zone," a '60s anthology show with 150+ episodes of fun premises to choose from. Some of the episodes "Treehouse" chooses to parody are already extremely famous but others are a little more obscure. Below is a ranking of our favorite "Twilight Zone" parodies throughout the "Treehouse" specials. If you're surprised to find that a given...

Kim Gordon has revealed her new sophomore solo album, The Collective. Stream it below.
Featuring icy, industrial, and hip-hop centric sonics, Kim Gordon narrates the scenes of The Collective with a stream-of-consciousness, collage-esque lyrical style. The album was produced by Justin Raisen, who has worked extensively with Lil Yachty, Yves Tumor, and Angel Olsen, and produced Gordon’s last album, 2019’s No Home Record.
The Sonic Youth co-founder previewed The Collective earlier this year with the laundry-list lead single “Bye Bye,” which we named as a “fucking banger” in our Song of the Week column, and the toxic masculinity-skewering “I’m a Man.” She also shared the noisy, mantra-heavy “Psychedelic Orgasm” this week. Stream Kim Gordon’s The Collective below.
Kim Gordon is also embarking on a major 2024 tour in support of The Collective, adding new dates in North America, the UK, and Europe this week to her schedule. After...

Kim Gordon has announced her second solo studio album. The Collective is out on March 8th via Matador, and the Sonic Youth musician is celebrating the news with the lead single “Bye Bye” as well as a batch of 2024 tour dates.
Gordon’s follow-up to her 2019 debut No Home Record brought her back to producer Justin Raisen, whose knack for dub and hip-hop leaning beats intermingle with Gordon’s best-in-class rock songwriting.
Those colliding genres are especially evident on the rumbling, ear-splitting “Bye Bye.” You would probably never guess it was a Kim Gordon song until her droning voice comes in, rattling off what sounds like her to-do list before a big trip: “Buy a suitcase, take pants to the cleaner,” she raps. “Call the vet, call the groomer/ Call the dog sitter.”
Before long, roaring guitars come in, almost as if signaling anxiety about travel — or something more sinister.

This post contains spoilers for "The Simpsons" 2023 Treehouse of Horror episode.
Say what you will of latter-day "The Simpsons," but the Treehouse of Horror episodes are still a reliably fun time. Although this year's trio of segments don't quite match up to last year's — an impossibly high standard — it was still far better than a usual episode. The first segment was "Wild Barts Can't Be Token," which takes what should be a played-out premise about NFTs and turns it into a delightful "Snowpiercer" homage. The third segment was "Lout Break," which serves as a spiritual successor to the "Send in the Clones" segment from way back in 2002. But the middle segment ("Ei8ht") was clearly the best. Although with the title you might assume it's a straightforward "Se7en" parody, the story is instead most memorable for its early call out to one of the show's greatest episodes: "Cape Feare,...

Fun trivia! For its first 12 installments, the annual "Treehouse of Horror" episodes of "The Simpsons" were merely called "The Simpsons Halloween Special." It wouldn't be until 2002 that "The Simpsons" would adopt the more familiar "Treehouse" title for its horror shows.
Starting with the show's second season, the "Simpsons" showrunners used their Halloween episodes to tell shorter, more outlandish stories wherein fantasy elements could be more openly employed, monsters could coexist with the title family, and the characters could die horrible, bloody deaths. For the most part, the "Treehouse of Horror" episodes were anthology shows, with each installment featuring three brief segments, many of them openly ripped off from "The Twilight Zone." Later on, "Treehouse" would be used to lampoon movies in a more general fashion, as when Homer (Dan Castellaneta) and Marge (Julie Kavner) re-enacted the 2005 action film "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

Kylie Jenner got up and worked: The mogul is a guest voice on this year’s “Treehouse of Horror” episode of “The Simpsons,” and Variety has a first look below. In the Season 35 edition, “Treehouse of Horror Xxxiv,” Bart is turned into an Nft — and Marge travels through the blockchain to save her son.
In the segment, Kylie Jenner is one of a handful of celebrities — also including Jimmy Fallon and Rob Gronskowski — who are the “illuminati of the crypto universe” and help Marge find Bart. Jenner plays herself, while comedian and voice actor Matt Friend is behind the Fallon parody.
Showrunner Matt Selman said the idea for a take on the Nft craze came directly from exec producer James L. Brooks. “The craze has gone up and down and mostly down since we started writing it,” Selman noted. “But we just thought the idea of all these celebrities who...

It's always struck me as something of a marvel that "The Twilight Zone" has managed to avoid feeling dated, despite the final episode being broadcast more than 60 years ago. Spanning five seasons between 1959 and 1965, at its best, the show depicts facets of the human condition that are universal, with many plot points, themes, and warnings that remain relevant today.
Rod Serling, the show's creator (and writer of 92 out of 156 episodes) always had an eye for themes that transcended the various settings. The presence of Serling himself in a business suit, offering wry commentary on the episodes, means that however futuristic the environment, they have an almost timeless quality that helps make the series endure. Almost counter-intuitively, this also serves to add to the series' eerie aesthetic.

What would spooky season be without the Sanderson Sisters? Thanks to Freeform, we’ll never have to find out.
The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 18 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus, as well as its 2022 sequel, as many times as you’d like with a Disney+ subscription, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?...

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 20
It is pretty apocalyptic when the locusts are everywhere, but the real monster is Rob Lowe. The Simpsons takes on the next phase of the end times in “The Very Hungry Caterpillars,” with the least teachable moments.
The Covid parody is overt, overdue to the point of last week’s news, but not quite an old joke. This is a very good breakdown of the lockdown mentality without rancor. The episode doesn’t get too preachy by getting very preachy. Extremes are funny, and The Simpsons has no problem poking wounds. The horrific atmosphere is introduced by Professor Frink, standing in for another CDC head in the form of the expert for the Center for Disgusting Caterpillars.
Frink devised a surefire hierarchy to the threat to the local community. He rates the caterpillars on a scale of ickiness, and it really sets the emotional tone.

Even if longtime fans of "The Simpsons" have fallen away from their love of the series in recent years, the "Treehouse of Horror" episodes typically have the power to bring them back. Every Halloween for over 30 years, "The Simpsons" has delivered an ongoing series of anthology shorts that take inspiration from horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres. Acting as "The Simpsons" version of "The Twilight Zone" or "The Outer Limits," each episode contains a few shorts that find Springfield's finest caught up in some kind of unbelievable story. It should come as no surprise that some of the great moments in Simpsons history comes from these episodes, and the recent passing of controversial talk show host Jerry Springer just reminded us of one of those hilarious bits.
During the tenth season of "The Simpsons" in October 1998, writer David X. Cohen (who would go on to co-create the brilliant "Futurama") gave us the segment "Starship Poopers.

The Simpsons Season 34 Episode 15
Once again, cartoon violence and mental health go hand-in-hand in solving all dysfunction. The Simpsons proves it’s never too late for a Christmas gift. “Bartless” merrily defaces It’s a Wonderful Life with a purple crayon and drops a new perspective under the Simpson family tree. Bart, the self-proclaimed poster child for evil children, may serve an even lower purpose.
The central story takes place the night after Marge and Homer hear a prank Bart pulled in the elementary school library actually inspired an interest in books to kindergarteners. It forces them to reevaluate a lifelong relationship. The question over whether Marge and Homer like Bart, or only forced to love him, is as raw a nerve as you can poke in any family, and the Simpsons are every family.
Eschewing the couch gag entirely, “Bartless” presents the best opening act for many seasons.

There are a lot of movies about witches out there, and quite a few of them have kind of the same message that gets pushed more than once, even if they try to counter it in the same span of time. The message appears to be: men suck. Men are pigs, men rape women, men do this and that, and men basically cause the ills of the world. Even on TV, this appears to be one of the several messages that tend to get pushed. Treehouse isn’t much different since it shows the attempt of several women to go after

When a show like "The Simpsons" has been around for as long as it has, it becomes a fascinating time capsule in addition to fulfilling its weekly sitcom obligations. For over three decades, the animated family has remained the same age, while the world around them has evolved to reflect the times. If the Simpsons themselves aren't going to change, it makes sense for everything else to evolve - even if the concept of a lower-middle class family keeping up with a house that size in the modern economy has since become a fantasy since the '90s.
One of the biggest changes to the show, however, came in 2009 when "The Simpsons" upgraded to high definition presentation in the middle of their 20th season with the episode "Take My Life, Please." It seems like a natural progression, as most other animated programs would eventually make the same leap, but during...

Exclusive: Tyra Banks (America’s Next Top Model) has signed on for a role in Treehouse Pictures’ remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is heading into production in Los Angeles in July.
The original 1991 film, from director Stephen Herek, follows Sue Ellen “Swell” Crandell (Christina Applegate), a 17-year-old forced to take care of her four younger siblings after the babysitter hired by her mother dies while mom’s out of town. While the Warner Bros comedy also starring Joanna Cassidy, Keith Coogan, John Getz and Josh Charles didn’t land as a major hit, either critically or commercially, it has fostered a cult following in the decades since.
Treehouse’s remake is billed as a present-day retelling centered on a Black family. Banks will play Cassidy’s character Rose, a fashion executive at General Apparel West, who takes a chance on Swell by hiring her as an executive assistant.

Joseph Siravo, best known for his roles as Tony Soprano’s father in The Sopranos, Fred Goldman in American Crime Story: The People v O.J. Simpson and stage musical Jersey Boys, has died, according to family. He was 66.
Siravo died Sunday after a long battle with cancer. The BBC quoted his daughter Allegra Okarmus, who wrote on Instagram: “I was by his side when my dear father passed away this morning, peacefully, in his beloved Treehouse. We are both so lucky to be so intensely loved. I am so immensely grateful to have had him here on earth and I know that he hasn’t gone very far.”

The Simpsons‘ annual “Treehouse of Horror” episodes do their best to scare us every year… and what could be scarier than the upcoming election?
In a sneak peek at Sunday’s episode (Fox, 8/7c), Marge nags Homer to get down to the polls and vote — at least “if you care about the three things you love most,” she says. (In Homer’s mind, that’s beer, donuts and pretzels, but never mind.) He rushes into the voting booth, but he’s stumped on one particular choice: who to vote for in the presidential race. Can 2020 get any scarier? The Simpsons is willing to bet it can with the arrival of its latest Halloween special. Every fall for the last 31 years (!), Homer and his clan have delivered three new tales of terror and hilarity with the record-breaking animated show’s traditional Treehouse of Horror specials. This year, though, we’ve lived through enough real-life horrors, so maybe it’ll be refreshing to witness some over-the-top cartoon ones.

Can 2020 get any scarier? “The Simpsons” are back for another round of animated terror in “Treehouse of Horror Xxxi” this Sunday night, the long-running show’s annual celebration of Halloween. This year’s special parodies Toy Story, offers a frightening look at the 2020 election, and spoofs Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse by unleashing several Homers from other dimensions. “Treehouse […]...

Thanks to the creepy mask Wal-Mart removed from its stores, coulrophobia — the fear of clowns — is in vogue this Halloween. What was once a symbol of silly circus fun has been turned into one of the most ubiquitous images in horror. So if you’re in the mood for a circus from hell, there’s plenty of evil clowns to choose from. Some are funny. Others are horrifying. Either way, they’re perfect for Halloween.
Pennywise, “It”: We have to start with the most famous evil clown ever. For some, Tim Curry’s portrayal of a killer clown that only kids from Maine can see is the height of creepiness. For others, Curry’s “Rocky Horror” levels of camp make Pennywise more amusing than frightening. In both instances, Tim Curry commands attention.

Exclusive: Treehouse Pictures has set in motion what it’s describing as a diverse remake of 1991 coming-of-age comedy, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is being written by Chuck Hayward with Bille Woodruff attached to direct. Hayward’s take is a present-day retelling centered on a black family.
Treehouse’s Justin Nappi and Juliet Berman are producing along with Oren Segal. Executive producers are Michael Phillips — also an Ep on the original — Juliana Maio and Tova Laiter.
The 1991 film, which was directed by Stephen Herek, starred Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and Josh Charles. It follows Sue Ellen Crandell, a teenager who is forced to take charge of her four younger siblings when their mom leaves town and the wicked babysitter her mother hired suddenly dies. Despite the fact that the film wasn’t a huge success critically or commercially, it amassed a significant cult following.

The Simpsons Season 31 Episode 8
After 31 seasons, The Simpsons is more in need of innovative programming than any of the shows it's inspired. If "Thanksgiving of Horror" is a clue to a new direction, it is a step in the right direction. Non-canonical fright fests in the style of their most popular episodes, the annual "Treehouse of Horrors" event, are the way to go. Christmas episodes are still chestnuts, but I hope we can look forward to "Memorial Day of Horrors" and "Arbor Day of Horrors" before they hit us with a spine-tickling "Inauguration Day of Horrors."
Marge lays it all out in the preamble. Everyday events are under the grim specter of everything. And Thanksgiving is no less frightening. No one knows when to serve the next course.

The Simpsons celebrate 666 episodes with a devilishly funny frightfest in Treehouse of Horror XXX.

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 31 Episode 4
The Simpsons, season 31, episode 4, "Treehouse of Horror XXX," is the 666th episode of the series. This bodes well for their annual Halloween extravaganza. Not because it proves they sold their collective souls to a devilish cooperative to have lasted this long. But because it promises the most evil of offerings. Sadly, the episode gives us a very happy ending, which works as diabolical subversion.
The opening sequence, prior to the three official horror stories, is the most evil. "Treehouse" Maggie's mother died during childbirth and her father is listed as 10,000 maniacs, none of whom showed up at the hospital to claim her. This makes excellent use of a horror reference to push a punchline. Maggie's only drawback is she tested positive for evil.

Treehouse Pictures, the production studio behind Netflix’s 2018 hit “Set it Up,” announced Wednesday that it has acquired rights to John Grisham’s New York Times best-selling novel “The Confession.”
Grisham’s novels have resulted in 10 theatrically-released feature films, including “The Firm,” “A Time to Kill” and “The Pelican Brief,” and they’ve grossed a collective $645.7 million at the domestic box office.
“The Confession” tells the fictional story of Donté Drumm, a young black man whose own forced confession put him on death row nine years ago for the rape and murder of a high school cheerleader, a crime he didn’t commit.

In a shocking turn of events that occurred almost overnight, Pokémon Sword and Shield have gone from one of 2019’s most anticipated releases to the most hated.
Officially announced back in February, the Switch games will mark the first time in developer Game Freak’s history that it’ll be moving away from Nintendo’s handheld consoles for the core RPG series. As a result of that monumental change, Generation 8’s size and scope has received a bump over its predecessors, as too, has visual fidelity.
The improvements in environmental detail aren’t night and day, but pre-release footage certainly shows a wider range of animations for the titular ‘Mons than was ever possible on the 3Ds’ modest infrastructure. Because of the opportunities provided by more powerful hardware, however, concessions in other areas of gameplay have had to be made, one of which has gone down like a lead balloon with fans,...
