Like a window into the lives of everyday folks in Mozambique.

"O Jardim do Outro Homem" ("Another Man's Garden") is a hard film to rate. This is because it's not a theatrical film but appears to be a film created to be shown to girls in Mozambique in order to discuss important issues to them, such as HIV and the systematic mistreatment and exploitation of women. Because of the type film it is, the picture has a very homemade quality to it. The folks do not appear to be professional actors and it has a shot on videotape look to it.

The story centers on a high school senior, Sofia. Through the course of the picture, she has to deal with school responsibilities, a promiscuous boyfriend as well as a teacher who tries to force himself on her...as well as the ever-present worry about HIV, as Mozambique has the 8th highest infection rate in the world.

Overall, this is an interesting look into the life of ordinary folks and the problems women face. A very good film to show your teens, as many of the themes are universal.
