710N

Did I walk into an alternate reality where "Barry" is slowly turning into a "John Wick" film? I mean, it feels like he's always been a little inspired by those films with his incredible marksman skills, but this just seems like we're entering that territory where he's a man that everybody wants to get down. It's almost like if the Coen brothers had directed those films. That would be this. And from what I've seen so far during these past three seasons, it's not something that I would have ever turned down seeing. Because "Barry" is staying in that amazing territory that it's been in ever since it first started. It hasn't had a misstep yet. It continues to evolve to places where we don't expect, and now, we've arrived at a place where our main character is in such deep s-t that I'm not sure where he'll be at the end of this season. If they hadn't already announced that a fourth season, I would have been very worried for Barry. However, I feel good in thinking that he's not going to end up in a ditch somewhere at the end of three, so I'm just along for the ride at the moment. And "710N" was another great stop on that ride. With Bill Hader back behind the camera, we get an episode that's equal-parts hilarious and badass, with an incredibly complex chase scene that just ended in the most "Barry"-fashion you could imagine. It pulled out everything and it succeeded at perfection.

First of all, this episode was able to acquire a level of humor that "Barry" has been so good at. It's always bordered on the surreal, but in this episode, it took that to a new level. All from the motivations of these bikers to an incredible running gag with this baker who just spits out gold whenever he opens his mouth. That's where the Coen effect comes in, as they've already been great at writing those great idiotic characters. These writers do that too and I'm so happy they do, because it's an amazing source of pure comedic gold.

Fuches has been a big question mark for me all season. I was confused at to what actually drove him to do all this. This episode made it clear that he has a burning hatred towards Barry for "replacing" him and that's actually quite relatable. Of course, these writers in their brilliance takes it to another level, but it's such a human emotion to feel jealousy over something and I think they've hit a great spot for this character. I mean, he's doing wrong things in his attempt at getting back at him, but who cares, it's just great television.

The big thing that people will talk about is the amazing highway chase scene in this film. And while it may not be the most action-packed shoot of all time, it's such a tense scene. As we constantly follow Barry trying to keep calm and get away, there's a clear sense that the intensity is rising and giving way to a real dread. Of course, Barry takes it with ease and ends the chase in the coolest way possible, not even really having to do anything during the whole thing. Except colliding with a biker head-on and stealing his ride.

I'm also a fan of seeing more of Barry's circle from the military. Now with Albert back as an interesting foil, it's gonna be exciting to see which way they take this. We've already seen how his relationship with his L. A. circle have gone downhill because of his doings as a hitman, so it's only a matter of time before it's going to impact the way his old friends see him. Or maybe they're sympathetic towards the whole thing? It's such an interesting dynamic they all have, so it would be fascinating to see if they made it more layered.

With "710N," the writers have upped the stage in terms of their grounded action and humor, although still not as perfect as "ronny/lily" last season. However, it's on its own and its focus on driving the story onwards while still delivering iconic and standout moments is something that makes me happy to be a fan.

Incredible Mastery of Tone

No show can quite balance comedic and dark elements with such ease, and this episode highlights that throughout. The closing sequence is the season's most memorable and entertaining yet, with some absolutely masterful direction by Bill Hader. Barry continues to be a highlight of my week, and I can't wait to see where it goes next. Excellent episode!

Barry combines action with comedy like no other show
lovemichaeljordan17 June 2022
One of the best episodes of the show. The comedy, action and acting are on point! More focus on Barry and when Fuches schemes catch up with Barry everything goes south. This episode got some of the funniest scenes in the show. The comedic timing is perfect! The breathtaking chase scene is beautifully shot and looked like something straight out of a video game. Phenomenal episode!

Mind blowing masterpiece
UniqueParticle30 May 2022
One of the best episodes in television history! Great mix of wisdom, master class acting, and suspense that is superb to witness! The numerous croissant scenes are so good, all the Sally bits, and everything with Barry is glorious; even Fuches (Stephen Root) has some suspense. What a whirlwind of greatness directed by Bill Hader!!

Absolutely Insane!

How is this show so good?

This is the craziest episode of Barry ever and I don't think they can ever top this, but since the show is so unpredictable and each episode is better than the last, I wouldn't be shocked if they topped the craziness of this one in the next season!

I have no idea how I didn't laugh one single time while watching season 1, yet I'm laughing my ass off at each and every single scene of season 3! This episode is just hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing. I don't know what happened between seasons 1 and 2 and 3, if they got better writers or not (and I'm not saying the writing was bad in season 1, it just didn't have good comedy in my opinion) but the writing in this season has been so fkn good and the comedy is so hilarious that made me turn my 8 rating for the whole show to a 9!

The unpredictability of this show is just unmatched! The first scene had my jaw dropped to the floor, even though I knew what was gonna happen after it. The whole chase sequence had my jaw dropped to the floor. The last scene had my jaw dropped to the floor and I did not see that ending coming. The red herring they gave us with that particular plot line was phenomenal and made the twist so much better!

The writing has been getting so clever with its comedy and I love it. Like the scene where Barry is walking through the clothing store and loudly sending a voice to text message to Sally and the cut to Sally reading it out loud and being confused is one of the funniest scenes of the show and reminded me of another similar scene earlier in this season where the manager guy was listing every name people have given to Gene and continue saying it in the store. The comedy is just top-notch.

It just keeps better and better, and that's not the only part. The cinematography!

Oh my god what an amazing cinematography is put to display in this episode. The whole chase scene with its amazing practical effects combined with the creative and breathtaking cinematography made that chase one of the most memorable and amazing sequences I've seen in a show. The chase was something out of GTA and the craziness of this episode can definitely rival GTAV's.

I'm not gonna write a lot more so I can keep it short and also don't spoil anything about the plots and what happens, but overall, in my opinion, this is the best episode of the whole show and I don't even know if season 4 or the last two episodes of this season can top it. The writing, the comedy, the plot progression, the cinematography, the twists, and the unpredictability is just amazing and this episode was just a joy to watch for the cinematography alone.

Absolutely amazing and hands down the best episode of Barry and also one of the best episodes of any show I've seen.

Not a review. Just an opinion.

Best episode of the entire series. Not just this season. The entire series.

Goodnight.

Wait not enough characters.

Okay goodnight.

Adrenaline Rush
rebsothoth30 May 2022
Normally, I get impatient with action scenes because I'm more interested in dialogue. "Barry" manages to create action sequences that just make my jaw drop and keep me glued to the screen. This is my second favorite chase scene of all time - for the entire chase, my stomach was in knots and I couldn't look away. So well done, so nerve-wracking! Far too realistic, which is a good thing even if it means I'm going to have nightmares. PLUS, all the action in no way lessened the progress of the main plot or the humor! Everything felt in balance, particularly because the character development occurred naturally and the humor of the beignet guru lightened things up (particularly with Noho Hank's response to him). So many highs and lows in such a short time! One of the best constructed episodes of the series, certainly.

Fuches has got to go. If Bill hader doesn't get an emmy for this episode, I'd be so disappointed. The plot twist was insane, this episode was so funny too, reminds me of that karate girl episode.

Doesn't top ronny/lily, but best of this season so far.
madhattertx31 May 2022
This now ranks as my 2nd favorite episode of Barry. Only ronny/lily from season two was better in its complete craziness and laughs from beginning to end. I couldn't look away to see what would happen next. This remains one of the best shows on television with its excellent cast, writing and creativity.

This is absolutely one of them, this is 2 of the top 2 episodes over all.

Dark humor like this is very rare and very good.

If there's an episode of Barry that best displays the masterful balance between dark comedy and drama this show has achieved over its 3 season run, this episode has to be it if not one of them at least. The action sequences are phenomenal and consistently entertaining. One thing I love about Barry is how purposeful the action is and this episode demonstrates this perfectly. All the jokes and gags hit as per usual in a way that is deeply twisted yet also light hearted. The action and comedy manage to not overshadow the other and this is achieved superbly. Quite literally a masterpiece.

Hader, you've done it again. See you at the emmys ;)

3 concerns I have with Season3 so far:
soccerball-4872830 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let me be clear, I love this show, but I have 3 issues with how this season is going.

1. Where is Barry? We love Hank and Sally from their interactions with Barry. Seeing their own side stories is much less entertaining, especially for Sally. I hope her "female in the industry" storyline actually ends up tying in with the main storyline because right now it's not.

2. I am growing increasingly concerned with how Barry the character is being written this season. Ever since the Barry the "abuser" narrative started, Barry's character has become dumb. Because of this his character is growing more and more unlikeable. It's as if this woke narrative has taken over the entire series, telling the audience you're not allowed to root for him anymore since he's a killer when the show did the opposite thing before.

3. TOO MANY PEOPLE. It feels as if a new character is introduced each episode or an old one is brought back all of a sudden that we barely remember. This shifts the focus from the people we actually like like Winkler and Hader taking away from what we love about this show: great characters.

I will continue watching but hope these problems are resolved.

Surprisingly bad episode in an increasingly down season
Freshley3 June 2022
Maybe the next episode will paint this all as a dream or something, but until that happens this is kind of a joke. So far, s3 has taken a weird turn for the worse after 1 and 2 were so great. Gene just forgiving ? Barry screaming at sally ? These are pretty silly plot points. Hopefully they can turn it around but this season is not looking good.

This show continues to impress. Each episode is great. I don't understand why it doesn't get more attention or maybe it does and I'm just an idiot. Anyway this episode is great, the best of the season so far. The greatness continues.

AMAZING!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is one of the best of the series and also of the year.

I especially loved the directing, it was phenomena!

The scenes at the "bakery store"(?) was funny and creative!

That Sally scene with the "yeah" and "YEAH!" was hilarious!!!

But still, I need more NoHo Hank scenes, he needs to truly shine!

Anyways, 710N really is 4M471N9

PS. I thought Fuches was gonna die lol, i was kinda happy when he was shot but nope he survived 🤡

Panthers Unleashed
tristan_1930 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
710N is one of the best episodes of Barry, mixing bonkers highway chases and pitch perfect comedy. The opening scene is shocking and setting the scene. Fuches gets shot, and the bikers go on. Fuches manages to survive and almost lets it go, but catches a sign while watching at a newspaper. He leaves and seeks another Barry victim's relative.

On the road, Barry encounters the panthers, going to a dinner, and everything gets into high speed. We have fantastic camera shots on the highway and creative ways to get rid of the bikers one by one, including a great roof sequence. But then, as you think everything is fine, Barry realizes Fuches got to Sharon first, and collapses.

Overall, such a creative episode. It's well shot and well thought out. The writing shines, and you know it's only the beginning. The next two will probably continue on the same path. Sally and Gene get new gigs and new projects. Interested to see what Hank does, and what happens to Cristobal and his wife.

One of the best episodes of one of the best shows on television. Every time you think they can't top themselves (ronny/lily) they do something like this. Someone let hader and berg make an action movie already.

I don't know what happened to this series. Barry is stupid. Fuches is stupid. Screenplay is stupid... Whole season is differently written, as if ot was too difficult and needs to be dumbed down.

Just loved this episode. Brilliant writing, the recurring coffee shop - visited by all the main characters - Salle, Hank and Barry. The chase at the end. It really is the small details - the chase with long shots of the ones chasing Barry. This is just masterclass. Cannot love Bill Hader enough for creating this brilliant show. Just amazing.
