This Man's Faking It
wabooradley25 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if Vernon was involved or not in Diane's death, but close examination reveals he is faking his "grief." His constant need for "breaks" form the interview are suspicious, as these events are far in the rearview mirror at the time of recording. He makes a big show of "crying", yet there are no tears, no congestion ... He then abandons Diane's child without a word, and refuses to return her calls for years afterward. And don't get me started about his playacting - it's insulting for him to think that anyone would fall for such a flimsy charade.

Very convenient for him to call in and check on Diane's status as he was driving back from Boise. I hope for Jade's sake the truth comes out as to how much he really knew.

Interesting interview
You_seem_upset25 April 2022
Just challenging the 1 star reviews as I believe it's good for the show to interview people like this as his emotions are fake apart from his smiles and laughter.

Seems like he's trying to act through it as well (some of his lines appear cliché and scripted) but he can't act and it shows.

Maybe it's just that he stopped caring about these things and moved on which is why he can't show emotion but then why agree to do the show?

Some input
timmonsteph2 October 2022
Some of this seems staged and a lot is left out....they could've done a bit better putting it together. There is another episode too. Vern did not expect this psycho to murder. He did love Diane and I'm sure harbors lots of guilt. Diane was an amazing mother and will never be forgotten. <3 This is my sisters mom. There was more back story and more of interviews that probably would've have been good to put in. It's sad someone was taken so early from their family and children. This was a small town middle of nowhere and things like this didn't happen. Peoples lives have forever changed because of insane jealousy.

He Wanted Her Dead
hicklespickllled20 April 2022
I think that Vernon Jensen comes across as psychopathic himself in this episode as when he is getting incredibly emotional his eyes are completely dry and as another reviewer pointed out his responses to the woman are very unsympathetic and odd. So I think that he was involved. But not directly. I think that he was very clever. He knew that his more overtly psychopathic ex would do it for him. He wanted his lover dead and he knew that she would do it without knowing that she was doing his dirty work for him. The perfect crime. I hope this show displays more care in the future with their interview subjects.

An interesting episode
TheDyingGirl20 July 2022
His police interrogation was off. He seemed cavalier but you can never predict how someone deals with grief. I don't think he could have prevented her death though. The police had been involved with Vicky and Diane's ex showing up at their house before. I think in Vicky's mind she believed Diane had been cheating with her man and all she had to do was kill her and he would come back. She never saw herself as the issue and that he had checked out long before Diane. I don't think he had any part in this. The fact that Vicky involved 2 children in her ploy tells me what a depraved individual she was. It was all about her and she didn't even care to protect her own niece who was just child. As for him becoming AWOL, plenty of men move on with lives when their spouse dies or breaks up with them. Even if the spouse had kids who looked up to them like a father. It's cold but men are selfish as hell as they only care about themselves and which relationship they are in. In this case it could have been guilt that stopped him from reaching out especially if he felt judgement from Diane's family but who truly knows the truth. It is just sad all around.

He should've known
knemecek23 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
His apologies to Jade fall completely flat. "I didn't think she'd do that." BS. She literally told him she was going to kill his ex wife. He knew she burned her own child. He is a coward who did not try and see Jade because deep down he knew he could've prevented her mom's death.

Good for the daughter
kmr-2230811 April 2022
This guy's ego was all built up by the fact that a woman "wanted" him enough to a psychopathic point. His responses to the daughter's questions are also psychopathic and unsympathetic. His need for breaks are just fake and ridiculous. What an absolute narc.

Not to diminish the murders at all, but the last few episodes of this show are drawn-out interviews with psychotic people who don't take responsibility. Just like the religion guy and the people kept in the tree stump. Scary to think they walk amongst us. Should be called "Self-awareness isn't a thing here".

Anytime someone apologizes with an "I'm sorry you feel that way", it's useless to listen further. Never a tear in sight.

This "man" is an icky human being and participated in creating the monster. What a shame for the children. Poor little boy. Poor little girl.

I hope the daughter has found some peace. She's more mature and forgiving than most of us.

And I think I'm done watching this show.

He is a covert narcissist!
syncmastermedia15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, had to Google if other people felt the same way I did about watching this guy! All the crying and not one tear, red eyes or nasal congestion! So false! Even when he was getting interviewed by the police he was very nonchalant wasn't exactly heartbroken, the fact he went for a drive with Vicki having already told the police he thought she'd had something to do with it? But to abandon his "soulmates" child presumably back to her father who he had already said his partner was scared senseless about and to ignore her reach outs was totally abhorrent as were his replies to the now grown up childs questions, his replies were woeful, sorry but we don't know the full story here and his "indirect" part in this. Plus he seems to move on very quickly in his relationships. Very strange program I wonder if the film crew felt the same? I'm rating 1 star because it was just a platform for this self absorbed man to whine on about something he could have maybe prevented.

Interview With A Narcissist Or
Mehki_Girl25 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A sociopath... After suspecting this crazy woman whom he was powerless against (insert eyeroll) and whom he suspected of harming her son and who threatened his ex and he knew she was serious (and never warned her that I can tell) is interviewed and tries to fake emotion.

The first time he got up because he was "so overcome", it struck me as fake and that's before the interview.

His abusive wife was right, what a pathetic excuse of a "man". I noted he covered his eyes a lot; not because they're were tears, but because there weren't any.

He came across as shallow with a need to impress people, trying to make himself out to be tough, which he wasn't and isn't. His acting was so awful. Twenty something years ago he talked about Diane's death like he was ordering a sandwich. He didn't care then and he certainly doesn't care now.

He can drop the fake tears and emotions. I couldn't concentrate on the story because of this jerk and the victim was just an after thought.

I can answer Diane's daughter's question: He. Just. Didn't. Care. About. You. Or. Your. Mom.

Something's off...
Ieemmg27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the other comments that this guy is faking his emotions, "tears" and what not. It was very odd to watch, especially the second half of the episode.

They didn't show a lot of the interview the police did with him, but even back then he seems less affected than you would expect from someone who's fiancé just died.

I can't get over the fact that something seems terribly off here...

Very unlikeable guy
smartinezmd11 January 2024
I read a few of the other reviews and, yes, he seems to be a bit dry on all his public shows of emotions. A few reviewers intimated that he was part of the murder which completely does not make sense. If he had been at all in on the murder, Vicki would have let the prosecutors know about that. There is absolutely no way that this sociopath would have let Vernon get away with his part in the crime. I am completely nonplussed that these relatively unattractive people - Vicki and Vernon - unattractive inside and out - bounced around in relationships and had so much pull on each other. Perhaps, it was their sociopathic similarities that attracted each other and were the glue of their "relationship." That he just disappeared and - worse yet - did not even respond to Jade's attempt(s) to reach out to him is despicable and his response on camera is pathetic and disingenuous. That the producers chose him as an episode shows that they were milking this low-budget series for all they could get because there are some really worthwhile stories out there and they did capture a few of these. This episode was just revenue-generating filler and completely boring and a waste of time and resources on everyone's part. Jade looks like a lovely young woman. Vernon's loss of having a nice person in his life. I wouldn't give him another thought if I were her.
