Queen of Jordan (#5.17)

Warning: Spoilers
TGS wants Tracy to come back, so Liz is in charge of manipulation Angie into convincing her husband to come home, but Angie seems to enjoy her reality show too much. Jenna has a fake intervention that still gets her to go to a rehab. And Jack ends up looking not as good on camera as he would like to.

I really like the episode. Such a wonderful parody of Real Housewives, one of my guilty pleasures. I especially like Jack's part in it. How he looks clumsy, has a farting chair episodes and is accused of being gay and then even worse: a bad dancer!.

Angie is having some great moments as well. I like her line "I want to look great and I refuse to wear anything my size or appropriate for my age!"

Very strongly written episode! One of my favorites.

A great, although brief introduction of new characters allowed for the writers to relax on some of their tired jokes. It is a well directed episode as well! Quick cuts provided great delivery of certain jokes, and the mockumentary manner of filming let the director include a lot more, quick scenes that helped tell a lot more story than a regular style episode.

Sexual abuse isn't funny

Warning: Spoilers
That's it. It's not funny. It's not okay. Frank's storyline is insulting and offensive, especially for those who have suffered from actual abuse as children. The stigma of little boys not being victims because a grown woman is "hot" and how "lucky" they are? Disgusting. I almost turned the episode off, but I was hoping they'd redeem themselves.

And they almost did when Frank and the teacher got in a fight. And then they didn't.

They really, really didn't.

Ugh

Such a great series, such a horrible episode. A send up of reality TV, it was just as annoying as those lame Housewife shows.

Three stars for "my single 'My Single Is Dropping' is dropping"

One star for some of the background gags.

But literally everything else is trash. The reality show parody was obnoxious when it originally aired and it's even more obnoxious in 2024.

The sexual abuse storyline was downright insulting. The gay jokes are lazy and also insulting. 30 Rock is often risqué and spares no one, but this episode punches down.

It's just an unfunny episode of television. I suppose it's an interesting artifact from its era but it's a big miss for an otherwise excellent comedy series. Maybe they should've removed this episode instead of the Oprah episode.

Unintelligible trash loaded with reverse racism
JasmineFIowers2 December 2014
Angie is truly the most irritating character on this show. Her playing of the race card is beyond unfunny. She's selfish and crude and pathetic and the show would be better off not going anywhere near the themes it canvasses in this episode. Her "crew" are equally annoying. This episode is clearly parodying reality shows, but I don't watch 30 Rock to see a parody of a reality show. And it's not really smart enough written to pull it off either. All the regulars sink to the level of the idocracy which is a shame, because instead of quirky-cute they just become quirky-stupid. The story about the teacher is vaguely amusing but cannot rescue how silly this episode really is.

Terrible

Offensive but most of all not funny. At some point does anyone watch this and say "hey guys, this sucks"?

Made 21 minutes feel like a torture sentence.

This isn't a pastiche of awful, awful "reality" TV, it's just a straight presentation of it.

It's exploitative, abusive, forced (in many ways), grinding, grating and a dreadful concept that promotes what it professes to parody.

A spastic swing and a massive, massive miss.

Throwing water in the dogs face irked me.

I get the goal of the episode, but that piece was over the top. Not sure how they were allowed to do that, and, air it. Kind of cruel.

Not to shabby

Both of the 'Queen of Jordan' episodes are really quite funny, Angie as a character can be very irritating but throughout she's just ok.
