Refreshing, Sincere, Incredibly Relatable
LeLea23227 October 2013
This movie was recommended to me by a friend in passing and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. The director does an excellent job of capturing snapshots into these colorful characters lives, overlapping in such a way that everyone feels cared for and no one feels lost. This is a tremendous effort considering how much the movie has going on inside it! Special acting shout outs go to Stacy Yen, who exquisitely plays the neurotic, self-loathing, pessimist with a simultaneous sincere, vulnerable, and eventually redeeming edge. Whatever small tragedy playing out in her head throughout the weekend best highlights the impact of group dynamics and emotional ostracism on a newbie amongst an old group of friends. Her performance is very refreshing. Also a shout out for Carson Elrod is deserved, who has such fantastic charisma that he is able to suck you into the movie before you realize it began.

Perhaps the most remarkable thing about "The Weekend" is that it manages to portray an unseen past, a chaotic present, and an uncertain future all at once; and despite being everywhere, the movie works. It is warm, hope-filled, and brought nostalgia back in me that I didn't even realize I still had. I recommend it when with or when thinking about old friends. Perhaps even with the possibility of new ones.

Bravo.

Romantic comedy about a group of former campers...things get real.

If you're looking for a fun movie to watch, this is it! Just the right amount of romance and comedy...MUST WATCH!! The actors have a really good amount of comfort towards each other which makes this really lovable. This movie makes you want to call up your childhood sweetheart and runaway to a cottage with them. When you watch this, you'll feel happiness, hunger, and an urge to hangout with your friends. Also, the acting in this movie is phenomenal! You really feel for the characters which is what makes this film so effective! As much as I want to spoil the movie for you, I cannot. I advise you..yes you...WHOEVER IS READING THIS...to watch it and just feel really happy!! LOVE IT!

Charmingly funny movie about friendship

The Weekend is a honest, realistic portrayal of people and friendship. This lovely movie was shot in real time during a weekend. The cast was spectacularly charming. There will definitely be one or more of these characters that you will remember from your own group of friends. You can tell that this movie was done with love from the cast and crew. There are moments of raw emotion and other moments of hilarity. This movie reminded me of so many moments of my past with great friends. If you love movies like the Breakfast Club, The Big Chill and Wet Hot American Summer, you will love this movie. Definitely will recommend The Weekend to my friends.

This Movie Gives Me Life

I'm not sure I can explain how important this movie is to my well-being, but I'll certainly try: It's a mirror held up to many a face, and makes one feel that imperfection is, believe it or not, COMEPLETELY OKAY (who knew?). The throughline is that there are no rules re: existing, and ne'er does any one of us get it right. It's a feel-good film made with an immense amount of funny and heart. It xoncentrates on what doesn't matter as equally as what genuinely *does*. Highly reccomend a watch, a re-watch, and a re-re-re-watch. Quietly exquisite. THANK YOU to all involved in it's making, for pouring pure soul into my cup.
