Excellent ensemble cast
prettylyric231 July 2011
I saw this movie at the LA Short Fest and thought that it was a great ensemble cast, which is often difficult to deliver. Every person in this movie was on point with their performance. Theatrically trained actors like Rob Morgan (played a homeless character named Stinky), Nashawn Kearse (played the lead named James), Ephraim Benton (played an imprisoned father) and Jas Anderson (don't want to spoil it for you *wink*) showed their true love for the craft of acting and brought real life to the piece. You have got to see this movie! The Tombs has a socially conscious undertone without being "preachy" or condescending. If you have the opportunity to catch this film at your local film festivals, I would highly recommend it. You should even contact the program directors of the festivals in your area and request that the film be added to their program.

Brainwashing hate propaganda

Warning: Spoilers
The point of the film is white people are evil and black people are totally helpless, unable to even speak to discuss white acts, that in this film is the reason presented for his arrest. I watched this film several times. The first time I did not catch that the phone call he was arrested for was the second to the woman.I thought the film presented that he was arrested just for calling the white woman.I think/suspect that that is intentional on the film makers part. The information that provides the ability to know it was his second call was slipped in in a way where it wouldnt be recognized for it's significance and overlooked? Important points. The film makes information as sparse as possible, the bare minimum leaving the viewer to assume and fill in the missing parts. The woman at the end assumes the house title and mortgage(assumed). In such an arraignment the mother and son would have received the equity beyond the mortgage debt. They would have been recipients of a check, probably a lot.The agreement would have had the mother and son moving out, knowing they had to leave the house so the woman could prepare it for whatever purpose. The son doesnt move out and receives an eviction notice. But the movie leaves out any information to create the appearance the white woman has tricked the son out of the house,he thought he would be able to continue to live there and the woman betrays him and kicks him and his mother out. It's a hate film.
