Being Unreasonable

Warning: Spoilers
Following Sakura's departure, Naruto wonders why she said what she said, while Yamato and Kakashi stare at him, thoughtful and worried. Then, Sai's clone appears to tell the truth (or at least part of it). He explains to them what the shinobis from Konoha decided about Sasuke, how each one of their friends accepted the fact that Sasuke must be killed. Naruto doesn't understand why Sakura would be fine with it, he thinks that she loves the Uchiha too much, that she is crazy for him (what an idiot he is). Sai tells that she is not a kid anymore, and after Akatsuki attacked and destroyed Konoha, the village will never accept Sasuke back considering he supported such organization. She is aware of it, and according to Sai, she intended to tell the truth to Naruto. He asks why she didn't, and both Kakashi and Sai tell that she knew how much it would affect him. By confessing her love, she was choosing him over Sasuke, and releasing him from the promise. She was thinking about him, she never wanted to hurt Naruto's feelings. But Sai also tells that she considered the case where he reacted like he did. As Yamato points, if she never wanted to tell him the truth, he asks what's she wants to do. The clone supposes that Sakura intends to eliminate Sasuke herself, to Naruto's shock. He can't believe it, because she loves him, but Sai says that for that reason she will stop Sasuke from following on a path to darkness, she doesn't want him to keep causing so much pain and suffering. Sai also thinks that she is willing to accept Naruto's hate as a compensation for making him suffer with the promise. All this leaves Naruto disturbed, and shaken. Then, when Naruto asks Sai why he told him all this, he answers that it was because he feels partially responsible for pushing Sakura to do what she did (and it's true, he made her feel bad, when everything she did was care for Naruto). The plotline here was sort of confusing. I think that Sai was right in what he said, except for the last part. Sakura confessed her love as those were her feelings. Like Sai said, she didn't tell Naruto the truth about what Shikamaru and the others decided because she knew it would be hurtful for him. And she can't stand the situation if it makes him suffer. The reality is that she loves Naruto too much. She protected his feelings, and asked everyone not to say anything to him. Then, when Naruto rejected her confession, she decided to kill Sasuke, but not because she loves him and can't stand seeing him on the darkness, it was because she wanted to protect Naruto. She cares about Sasuke, but she cares much more about Naruto, so wants to eliminate the Uchiha to protect her partner. She said the exact words, she doesn't want Naruto going after Sasuke because it puts him in danger given Akatsuki. Sakura is taking the decision that he is not willing to make. Still, Sai's right about something, she feels a little responsible for the promise and Naruto's pain, so if she eliminates Sasuke, she is making up for what she did. And yes, she knows that Naruto doesn't agree and intends to save Sasuke, but in the case she suceeds, she can tell that she did it for him, because she chooses him, his safety, his life. If what Sai said was true, that Sakura wants to kill Sasuke because she loves him and hates seeing him transformed into a criminal, then why she confessed to Naruto? To deceive him or hurt him? Why she just didn't go to kill Sasuke inmediatly instead? She did what she did because she loves Naruto and wants to protect him. Which person would voluntarily kill a beloved one? Which woman on earth would intend to kill a boyfriend or a husband, even if he became dark and hatred? What Sai (a character that didn't know anything about feelings a while ago), and obviously Kishimoto chose to ignore is the fact that more than three years passed from the first part of Naruto. To think that Sakura still loves Sasuke, or that she is in love with him is ridiculous. He never showed affection towards her. Nothing romantic ever happened between them. She liked him only given the physical appearance, but there was nothing else to think it could be love, or a relationship. It was a one sided crush from a twelve year old girl. Sasuke only behaved as a teammate occasionally, who always rebuffed her, and only showed care for her a couple of times. They didn't share one single experience together where was showed a connection or chemistry. Instead, like seen in most of Shippuden, the relationship between Naruto and Sakura was the opposite, pure love, sustained by care, worries, selfless actions thinking about each other. I already wrote in past reviews why they belong together. Therefore, all what she is written to do now, she does it for Naruto. Of course Kishimoto took the wrong decisions on the final pairings, and is becoming evident on some episodes. But what he wanted to do from the beginning of Shippuden, his intentions to pair Naruto and Sakura by writing all what he wrote before cannot be erased. That's the truth.

Then, Gaara, Temari and Kankuro reach Naruto, Kakashi and Yamato to update them about what happened at the Kage Summit. Kakashi is not pleased about the idea of being Hokage, but the situation demands his acceptance, and Yamato is sure the other jonins will agree. About what Sasuke did, the facts leave them saddened, especially Naruto. Gaara tries to reason with him, Sasuke doesn't care about him, he only wants darkness (it's implied that he explained the talk they had). He adds that the war is to protect him and the Hachibi, so he will defend him at all costs, and the whole shinobi world, so if Sasuke faces the shinobi alliance, on Akatsuki's side, he won't have mercy. The Kazekage knows that Naruto wants to be Hokage, so he tells him that he must be willing to take hard decisions. Naruto shoves off his arm, like refusing to accept it. Then, Temari, Gaara and Kankuro turn back to leave. But the Kazekage gives some last words: the word friend didn't mean anything for him before, but since he met Naruto, it does. So he asks him to think well what it means and what he can do for Sasuke. Gaara as usual, was excellent. He tried to reason with Sasuke, he intended to show him another path, otherwise it would be too late. But he realized that the Uchiha wouldn't change. It was too late. Temari and Shikamaru also knew, each one by their side, that still, what future would await for Sasuke? Even if Naruto forgives him, the rest of Konoha and the world won't. Especially if like Gaara says, Sasuke attempts to destroy the Hidden Leaf village, and break the shinobi world. Sadly, Naruto is hard to be reasonable. He can't accept that life, certain events from the past, the story itself, turned Sasuke into what he is now. For some reason, Kishimoto defied common sense by making him this way. He created the most impossible and unlikely situation he could around Naruto and Sasuke. He forced the protagonist to think like a god, or a whiny stubborn character not willing to deal with the reality of the storyline. Worst, he made Naruto to treat Sasuke like a brother, something they never were. Even after seeing the first 140 episodes, such brotherly bond never existed. By thinking this way, Naruto doesn't deserve to be Hokage. Gaara was right.

As for a third part, Danzo and his subordinates, Torune and Foo, find Tobi on their way back. Tobi fights the two shinobi while Danzo prepares his right arm. Turns out that Foo is from the Yamanaka clan (surely related to Ino somehow), while Torune is from the Aburame clan (like Shino). They do their best, but Tobi always manages to escape their attacks given his space time nin jutsu. Eventually, he traps them in other dimension, though he loses his right arm (made of Zetsu white matter). Then, he retrieves Sasuke and Karin, so the Uchiha can face Danzo. Still, the "Hokage" has prepared his arm, which contains several Uchiha's eyes, and intends to steal Sasuke's and Tobi's eyes. Here is finally revealed how deep the gore has got into Danzo. If stealing and using the eye of Shisui Uchiha wasn't enough, looks like he has collected the eyes of many Uchihas. A good question is, how was possible for someone like Hiruzen Sarutobi to accept Danzo on the council of Konoha? When he became a monster? He collects human's parts like a serial killer. The Raikage was right, Danzo reincarnates darkness. Kishimoto failed here too. He could have made Danzo a dark character, but with a different background. The reason to use bandages could have been several scars caused by the war, there could have been a tragic story to make him the way he was. But not, at the end he turns out to be a gory dark villain from Konoha, who accepted making experiments along Orochimaru, and stole the eyes of many Uchihas in surely bloody ways. It's unbelievable. Danzo is another reason of why the level of Shippuden declines.
