One of the latest obsessions of viewers around the world is Guy Ritchie's “gentlemen” universe. Starting with 2019's The Gentlemen, and of course the new series of the same name that was released on Netflix in 2024, the stories of morally ambiguous men in nice suits drive the audience crazy.
However, it seems that these two projects weren’t enough for the director, so he decided to create another flick with a gentleman-esque vibe in the title. We are talking about the 2024 movie called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
The first question that comes to the minds of all potential viewers was whether the movie is in any way connected to the already existing universe of The Gentlemen? All three installments were created by the British director Guy Ritchie, but if the two previous Gentlemen share “one DNA,” the new movie is not quite their buddy.

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But the sleeper success story of the week belonged to Netflix’s Lindsay Lohan rom com movie “Irish Wish.”
Ritchie made a splashy debut on March 7 with Netflix’s “The Gentlemen,” an eight-episode TV heist drama delivered in the director’s signature style. In its second week, “Gentlemen” had solid hold with a modest 30% decline to 1.3 billion minutes watched during the March 15-21 frame, according to original streaming content ratings calculated by Luminate.

While Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer may have won the most awards, Ryan Gosling’s performance of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from Barbie stole the Oscars earlier today. Clad in a glittering pink suit, Gosling’s solo performance of his Oscar-nominated song received a standing ovation and made the entire auditorium stand up and sing.
Apart from a surprise guitar solo by Slash from Guns N’ Roses and Wolfgang Van Halen from Van Halen, fans picked out one more detail from Gosling’s soon-to-be legendary performance. The pink suit worn by Ryan Gosling as well as the background dancers’ tuxedo with pink stripes was a direct reference to Marilyn Monroe’s iconic costume from the song ‘Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend’.

Paramount+ has ordered a spinoff of its crime drama Ray Donovan that will be directed and executive produced by Guy Ritchie.
Titled The Donovans, the new series is “loosely based” on the successful series that ran for seven seasons on Showtime and starred Liev Schreiber as a professional “fixer” in Los Angeles.
The official description: “With the most powerful clients in Europe, The Donovans will see family fortunes and reputations at risk, odd alliances unfold, and betrayal around every corner; and while the family might be London’s most elite fixers today, the nature of their business means there is no guarantee what’s in store tomorrow.”
Award-winning Irish writer Ronan Bennett (Top Boy) will write all 10 episodes. “We’re going to deliver a show which provides massive thrills, entertainment and a huge rush of adrenaline for audiences around the world,” Bennett said. “At the same time, I’m totally focused on exploring real characters,...

When Grammy Award-winning soulster John Legend first read The End of Poverty by Earth Institute director Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, he was so inspired that he traveled straight to Ghana to learn more about the problems faced by African countries. The book made him realize how it could be possible to set impoverished villages onto the road of self sufficiency and progress, and the trip showed him how he himself could make a difference to the lives of millions.
Legend established the Show Me Campaign to raise the required funds soon after his fact-finding mission, and partnered with Sachs’ Millennium Promise Alliance to serve needy African villages. In 2008, both Legend and Sachs made a tour of universities all over the US to encourage social, economic, personal, and educational growth. Called the Poverty Action Tour, the sessions challenged people to support the fight against poverty, and promote the charities and groups that champion the cause.

Howard Hawks’ eye-catching comedy sees the actor at the height of her talents in a tale with more depth and intellect than even its director knew
Last year’s Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde broke up its parade of visceral suffering heaped upon the woman born Norma Jeane Mortenson with an acknowledgement of one injustice not of the physically invasive persuasion.
We learn that while working on Howard Hawks’ superlative Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (which turns 70 years old this weekend), she received a paltry rate of $500 a week, while her comparatively better-known co-45star Jane Russell raked in a sum-total fee in the amount of $200,000. On this point, director Andrew Dominik clearly conveys his thesis that the industry used and abused a woman ill-equipped to advocate for herself, and for once, he does it without joining in on that which he purports to critique by lavishing punishments upon star Ana de Armas.

Mikael Marcimain, the Swedish director of hits “Call Girl” and “Gentlemen,” is on track to direct “Devastation,” an epic and horrific tale of survival set in 1867. “Devastation” is one of the first projects developed by Mylla Films, the new banner set up by Jakob Abrahamsson and Patrik Andersson (“Midsommar”).
Mylla Films has enlisted Nordic distributor Scanbox and French boutique genre specialist Alexis Perrin of Rumble Fish as co-producers.
A period piece set in northern Sweden, “Devastation” is penned by Melina Maraki (“The Liberation of Harold Kvist”). Unfolding during the hard winter and famine of 1867, the film revolves around two brothers, one the local industrialist and the other the local preacher, who keep the town in a tyrannical stronghold. An uprising begins from the most unexpected place.

When a movie gets tangled up in all kinds of financial problems, delayed for over a year, played out internationally, sent straight to streaming in Canada, and then finally getting the green light to open in the U.S. via a new distributor and thrown into theaters with virtually no notice or time to mount a marketing campaign, you have to think there must be something very wrong here.
Well surprise, surprise. The awkwardly titled Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre is loads of fun, an entertaining spy thriller that is faithful to the genre, very well cast, and a hoot to watch. Caught up in the STX mess and then handled by Miramax and a distribution service deal for Lionsgate, the film has been played out in much of the world but is finally being released stateside in a theatrical run that has been so rushed it sadly may not...

When it comes to the genre playgrounds he loves so much, is Guy Ritchie better off being himself or playing along? His brash, bad-lad calling cards were never terribly original, but their style-to-burn derivativeness had spirit. His Hollywood larks never felt honest but the occasional glimpse of a bruiser’s cockiness made for colorful upgrades in the IP machinery.
After Ritchie’s return to leaner (but never in the dialogue) roots with the comically shaggy, seedy gangster wingding “The Gentlemen,” and reteaming with his best contribution to cinema — Jason Statham — for the brackish vengeance puddle “Wrath of Man,” the British filmmaker is once again aiming for sleek and starry heights with the spy-driven action comedy “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.”
Statham is the “Fortune” of the title, first name Orson, an elite for-hire operative with clever ideas and expensive tastes, hired by intelligence agency rep Nathan (Cary Elwes) to determine...

It has to be hard to be Joe Hill.
He didn't grow up with Frank and feels like he's always living in his late father's shadow -- and he didn't even know the guy.
He also isn't used to Frank disciplining his relatives the same way he would any cop who screwed up, which also contributed to his annoyance on Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 13.
Although Joe's most significant problem with Frank is that he doesn't measure up to the father he never knew, the work issue had to have bothered him too.
The situation was more complicated than it seemed. On the one hand, Joe disobeyed orders from a superior officer. On the other, he followed NYPD protocol even if the FBI agent in charge disagreed with that protocol. It had to have felt as if Joe was being punished for doing what he'd been trained to do.

Distributed by ITV Studios, “Blackwater,” the new banner series from Apple Tree producer Piv Bernth – behind iconic Scandinavian series “The Killing,” “The Bridge” and “Borgen” – opens in premonitory mode with the camera panning away from a falcon to take in the Lobber River’s white water and churning slate grey currents as a supernatural horror-movie chant bleeds into the soundtrack.
The foreboding anticipates a double murder on the river’s banks and conveys a broader sense sluicing the series of the menace of nature itself – both the chilling woods around Blackwater, a village in mid-Sweden, and latent human brutality.
In 1973, on Midsummer’s Eve, Annie, a young in-love schoolteacher who has just arrived in the area, discovers the bodies of two murdered tourists on the banks of the river. Glimpsing a man running away from the crime scene, she will live in fear for the next 20 years, sleeping with a shotgun beside her bed.

From tragic deaths (Cobain, Cornell, Lanegan) to careers and bands that have wound down or evaporated, the landscape of alt-rock heroes is fairly bleak these days—which makes it all the more ironic that one of the last men standing is the Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli. As the reigning cad of the Nineties alternative gold rush, Dulli was one of the genre’s most polarizing figures, the dude you loved to hate or hated to love. (Remember the Fat Greg Dulli fanzine?) The Afghan Whigs’ first new song in five years, “I’ll Make You See God,” is raw emotion. Frontman Greg Dulli’s lyrics don’t make much sense — there’s something about everything becoming “ebony,” and something else about kissing the night awake, and then there’s his pretentious French pronunciation of “infini” — but, as with many Afghan Whigs songs, Dulli sings these words in a way that makes them seem profound. When paired with the song’s lusty guitar line, courtesy of new member Christopher Thorn, and John Curley’s bass,...

If you watched Starfield‘s E3 2021 trailer (and we know you did), the one word that probably jumped out at you was “constellation.”
Granted, that’s probably because the Starfield trailer didn’t give us much to work with in terms of story, gameplay, or anything else, but there’s no denying that the word “constellation” was featured prominently enough in the preview to make it clear that the game will revolve around it in some way.
So what does “constellation” actually mean in relation to Starfield? Surprisingly, we already know the answer to that question despite still not knowing much about the rest of the game.
In a behind-the-scenes video released on The Washington Post’s website, Todd Howard explains that Constellation is the name of a faction that he describes as “the last group of space explorers.” In an interview with Telegraph, he offers an expanded explanation of...

Cary Grant and co-star/missus Betsy Drake do honor to the ‘family picture’ genre — with a filmic boost to child foster programs that offers a positive message, avoids most clichés and generates some sly fun too. What we see resembles real life, even if Cary Grant should never be shown washing dishes. Betsy Drake’s take-charge mother sets family policy as she opts to take in first one and then two foster children. It’s also the film debut of little George Winslow, before he picked up the ‘Foghorn’ nickname. Plus there’s a cute dog and some kittens that offer a sex education lesson. The recent biography of Cary Grant should renew interest in this entertaining and socially admirable show. It’s warm & fuzzy yet not at all saccharine.

After dabbling in worlds created by others, including Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Aladdin, director Guy Ritchie decided to return to his roots and tell a quirky English crime caper. Whether he was feeling nostalgic or attempting to regain the cred earned from the wonderful Layer Cake is unknown. What I can tell you is that while far from perfect, The Gentlemen is an entertaining delight.
The film is largely a two-handed, an engagement between Fletcher (Hugh Grant), an untrustworthy independent reporter, and Ray (Charlie Hunnam), the right hand to drug lord Michael Pearson (Matthew McConaughey). It’s move and countermove between the two as Fletcher tries to extort 20 million pounds or reveal what he believes to be the scoop of the year. And as they go back and forth, they tell each other pieces of the bigger pictures and then we go into flashbacks. Each time one...

Despite older guys indulging greatly in Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s reteam Bad Boy for Life last weekend, Stx and Miramax are hoping that there’s a little bit of spillover from that into Guy Ritchie’s R-rated all-star ensemble The Gentleman.
Stx took U.S. rights from Miramax for $7M, and the hope is that the pic can clear $10M-$12M. Stx opened the Gerard Butler caper Den of Thieves to $15.2M two Januarys ago, which finaled at just under $45M (which the distrib has always said was a success). No question, Sony’s Bad Boys for Life will dominate its second frame with around $28M, -55%. Of course, the threequel was the big guy at the B.O. yesterday with $3.5M, -4% from Wednesday, ending its week with an estimated $86.6M.

Charlie Hunnam wants another shot at King Arthur. In a recent interview with SiriusXM to promote Guy Ritchie’s upcoming action movie “The Gentlemen,” Hunnam reminisced about the box office catastrophe that was his last Ritchie outing, 2017’s “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Ritchie’s fantasy epic was one of the biggest box office bombs of 2017. The $175 million Warner Bros. tentpole opened in May to just $14.7 million during its debut weekend. “King Arthur” tapped out with $39 million in the U.S. and $146 million worldwide, losing Warner Bros. as much as $153 million.
Hunnam was being interviewed on SiriusXM by Andy Cohen when he revealed that he’s keen on a “King Arthur” redo. The actor said that Ritchie’s 2017 “King Arthur” was just the first movie being planned in a franchise, one that got killed by the box office performance.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has a flair for assembling a truly memorable rogue’s gallery and bringing it to the screen in vivid hues of eccentricity, menace, humor, and gutter eloquence. The British writer-director did it with Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), he did it with Snatch (2000) and with Rocknrolla (2008) and now (after the career success of his Aladdin this year) he returns to the crime ensemble genre with The Gentleman, the STXfilms action-comedy that opens January 24.
To reach out to all the fans of Ritchie’s early Cockney crime films, the producers of The Gentlemen have released a batch of character spots (you can find the videos below) that flaunt the film’s intriguing cast and highlight Ritchie’s familiar cinematic signatures.
The film synopsis: “The Gentlemen follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London.

In an interview with Variety in October, Labeouf said, “[McEnroe and I have] everything in common. Passionate. Perfectionist. Narcissistic. I’m a bit of a caricature also. You look for parallels in your life, and I’m lucky because there is a lot here…I’m eager to meet him before we shoot. I got nothing but love and respect for him. The script is brilliant. We are all here because of that.

The Toronto International Film Festival announced more selections Tuesday for the upcoming 2014 edition of the annual awards season kick-off. The majority of the festival's program was announced last month, but this group includes intriguing world premieres from notable directors such as Todd McCarthy ("The Cobbler") and Gina Prince-Bythewood ("Beyond the Lights"). A number of the titles revealed have screened at other festivals including the underrated "Infinitely Polar Bear" and "Laggies" from Sundance as well as Cannes players "Two Days, One Night," "The Search" and "Clouds of Sils Maria." And yes, the presence of "Sils Maria," which is a favorite of this particular writer, means Kristen Stewart will likely hit one of the festival's many red carpets. As you'd expect for Toronto, the world premieres feature some big names including Josh Hutcherson and Benicio Del Toro in "Escobar: Paradise Lost," Jean Dujardin in "The Connection (La French)," Dustin Hoffman in "Boychoir,...

This morning the Toronto Film Festival added several more films to their lineup including the world premiere of Thomas McCarthy's The Cobbler which stars Adam Sandler as a New York City cobbler who, disenchanted with the grind of daily life, stumbles upon a magical heirloom that allows him to step into the lives of his customers and see the world in a new way. The film co-stars Method Man, Ellen Barkin, Melonie Diaz, Dan Stevens, Steve Buscemi and Dustin Hoffman. Additionally, Sundance standouts Infinity Polar Bear and Laggies starring Keira Knightley and Chloe Grace Moretz were added to the Gala selection. Joining The Cobbler as new additions to the Special Presentations field include Olivier Assayas' Clouds of Sils Maria starring Kristen Stewart and Juliette Binoche and Two Days, One Night from Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne and starring Marion Cotillard. Both films made a splash at Cannes earlier this year,...

Just how much sway do Tiff programmers have? Looking at today’s Gala and Special Presentation add-ons, measurably, when it comes to films with star-wattage and acquisitions titles, the industry sides with high value world premiere slot in downtown Toronto. Complimenting Sundance (Maya Forbes’ Infinitely Polar Bear and Lynn Shelton’s Laggies) and Cannes (Assayas, the Dardennes), the wide net includes Francois Girard’s Boychoir, Richard Loncraine’s Ruth & Alex, Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Beyond the Lights, Thomas McCarthy’s The Cobbler, Shira Piven’s Welcome to Me, and in a very Gustave Flaubert type of year includes Anne Fontaine’s Gemma Bovery and Sophie Barthes’ Madame Bovary. In directorial debuts, Henry Hobson presents Maggie, actor Paul Bettany presents Shelter (see pic of star and his wife above), Andrea Di Stefano’s Escobar: Paradise Lost and Philip Martin’s The Forger. Here are the additional items:
