Set in British Columbia, Canada, and directed by Justin Turcotte, this documentary focuses on the long term preparations for a live and dramatic stage production called "Escape the Darkness". The finished product which will include 15 dancing dogs and their amateur trainers, will eventually be performed in Surrey, B.C., at the Bell Performing Arts Center in November 2010.
The mastermind behind this presentation is Ray, who is the founder of the Paws 2 Dance Club, and he will choreograph and oversee the entire show. His concept will include combining the dog dancing with kite flyers and have a dark dramatic theme with the appropriate music and lighting.
They'll be a lot of hard work ahead with constant rehearsals for the club members and their wonderful dogs, fundraising, and everyone pitching in to help the production with whatever needs to be done, including costume making, co-writing the script, and even hiring a new stage manager, Teresa, who's actually afraid of dogs. We'll get to meet and hear the personal stories of some of the club members and they can be quite heart-felt and touching.
Overall, I found this doc to be intriguing and offered something different on screen, and, of course, the real stars of the film are the most willing and loving canines.
