Fun Episode, Good Radioactive Decay
infinitetyler16 April 2024
Solid second episode, from someone who didn't play the games. I remember when the first one came out (friends played) and it reminded me of the underrated cult-classic 'Six-String Samurai'. Episode 1 was more like a less creepy version of 'A Boy and His Dog', but Episode 2 explores the post-apocalypse world more, and I like that it's building out on an already familiar idea. It's like seeing a planet in Star Wars that isn't Tatooine. The two episodes are pretty comparable, but I think I liked Ep 2 slightly more because of the jokes, character building, and fight scenes.

Not quite as many explosions as episode 1, but a fair amount of shooting, punching and violence to be entertaining. The actors had a bit more room to work and the protagonist evolved after experiencing challenges stemming from her sheltered existence, and as a result she has the beginning of a character arc. The squire appears to also have an arc, but the writers haven't done as well at explaining his motivations so far; but can't rule out that it wasn't intentional.

'The Target' gives me a lot of hope for the rest of the series. They could still screw it up, but there haven't been any major red-flags and so far it's just been kind of fun wacky entertainment.

Who's the real target anyway?
missesluvjones11 April 2024
In episode 2, "The Target" (I love this title, by the way) both Lucy and Maximus have been uprooted respectively and made their way to the surface on missions that will lead them to their paths crossing. Lucy, searching for her father and Maximus searching for redemption. In this episode we get a more in depth look art the various sights of what it means to now be a surface dweller from the people they encounter, to the issues they bump into and their differing reasons to capture The Target. Of course bright-eyed Ella Purnell is such a soft spot in a new world of chaos that it's hard not to want to root for her to win. We also see the Ghoul's positioning on the surface since we were introduced to him in episode 1. One thing about him is that he's a beast and he knows his stuff! This episode brings forth a new character, Dr. Siggi Wilson who plays a vital role in this game that has each player searching. When Lucy and he converge more than once she begins to realize this and tries helping him at all costs. And it is here that she realizes that things aren't what they seem. A great second episode that opens the narrative up more...essentially in hook, line and sinker fashion.

More SF/post-apocalyptic madness
Portis_Charles29 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Even more SF/post-apocalyptic madness in this episode, to finally convince me to continue the series, after a somewhat disparate first episode. At the heart of the episode's climax is an absolutely brutal and well-filmed action scene in a degraded urban environment allowing for some complex shots. I am still not convinced by the choices of old music which create a somewhat ironic and quite unpleasant offset, but this remains a minor defect in an episode centred on the Wasteland which imposes its aesthetic universe with force and quality. Original characters like The Ghoul, Lord Titus, Dr. Siggi Wilzig or Ma June add to the madness of the universe and provide fun.

Always moved by the true kind even in such a cruel world
hazel_wing17 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
For me, it's not deep and complex enough for what I expected from Nolan's work, and not crazy enough for a game. But still, an elegant and complete story was well told.

Then, after two days, in all of the celebration of how it shows the style of the game. After watching episode 8, at first I surmised that Lucy's attempt to kill her father was an echo of the episode Dr. Wilzig talked about, "Will you still want the same thing...when you have become a different animal altogether?" But then the problem is that it's not that Lucy has changed to will not want the same thing. She just changed because of what happened to her mother.

So in the end, it's always the doctor himself who would not be willing to do what it takes to survive up there. He was afraid of if he will still want the same things, if he bacomes a different animal altogether. He'd rather die first and leave the transport work to Lucy.

And four must be different from dog meat.

Even Better Than the Pilot
maddmaxx4628 April 2024
I thought the pilot was excellent, but this one was fantastic. It did a near perfect job of bringing all the main characters together and pushing the story forward. The standoff at Filly was very intense and made for a great climax to this episode. The whole setting with all the props did a really great job of paying tribute to the 3D video games. I'm also opening up to Maximus's character. He seemed pretty bland and one-dimensional during the pilot but my concerns are starting to ease as he develops courage in the Brotherhood of Steel. Again, Lucy and The Ghoul shined through this one and continue to impress me. 4.5/5 stars.

Rapa Dapa
Warin_West-El27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was surprised to see a couple of viewers were turned off by the fact that one of the characters was played by Michael Rappaport. Actually, I didn't find that scene off-putting. In fact, I thought it was a pretty good casting choice. After all, we only get to see Knight Titus right before he dies. Rappaport came off as prickly and offensive, which is exactly what that scene called for.

My beef is with the Maximus character. If you didn't know better you'd think that scene and many of them to follow were written by the same people who scripted Amos and Andy. Could that character be any more excruciatingly stereotypical? Nearly every Maximus scene was painful to watch.

I agree with many other commentators: the level of believability was relatively low. But you have to take it all in stride since the heroine, Lucy, is truly clueless.

Actually, the best part of this episode were the character actors, who did a sensational job of selling the premise of Lucy being entirely out of her element. Special Kudos to Dale Dickey who truly stole scenes with her spot on portrayal of the irascible Ma June. That performance alone made the episode worthwhile.

Walton Goggins' character is quite confusing. A bad guy that is not necessarily a bad guy. His performance will be hard to judge until we see him in more episodes.

Moreover, I share the commentator's observations regarding the blatant animal cruelty depicted at the start of this episode. The filmmaker presents it abruptly, without preparing the audience, making it a direct and jarring experience. They could have made the same point in a much more subtle way. So it appears to be an intentional attempt to shock people (probably for ratings).

Overall, this was an uneven episode with scenes that were offensive due to the subject matter or the lack of credibility, combined with portions that contained a couple of stellar performances.

Ridiculous

It hurts so much to watch the show.

The culmination when Maximus "saves" Lucy against the Ghoul by running to her and jumping with her into a house.

What happens next? No, they are not terrified because the ghoul (who just killed dozens of people) wants to kill her - no we have time for a scene where the two look each other in the eye and smile like they fell in love? And while they lie next to each other, the ghoul keeps shooting at them and they just keep talking and the ghoul misses each time?

Overall the acting of Maximus is horrible.

Immersion in the show is near 0.

I do like the Ghoul in a way, but also there, the show is just unrealistic. Apparently he can kill all those people with single shots, but when it comes to the main character, he suddenly can't find the target anymore?

And yes, not everything can be perfectly realistic. But I hate it when romance scenes kill the immersion.

Jonathan Nolan sold his soul didn't he?
suvechhabose12 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This guy came up with Person of Interest, Westworld. Pretty damn serious. Mind boggling, no weird music choices , no show off , just straight to the point connections & pacing.

Then there's fallout

2 episodes in & all am listening to western country music ! *No offence i love it , but listening to it in every 5 minutes is brain damaging... It is though, same as eating boxes of Dark chocolate.

Add that scene of Ghoul waking up a dog within some seconds, Unrealistic! So friggin unrealistic like Spy kids !

What were they thinking? Video game physics? Video game biology?

The dog woke up like a car refueling in a petrol station, It didn't even overreacted seeing the guy who shot him .. how? Why?

He Forgot original master!

The scientist dude.. & i thought brother stop this nonsense

The thing is dogs don't behave that way .

One stupid scene , just one can ruin the entire episode. I was awestruck seeing this kind of 24 cent IQ for a series like this ! The cinematography looks beautiful yet You need to put aside your brain & try watching this show ... 6 outta 10 . For mere , One or some mystery elements , It is going to stretch

Forward we go.

Can we stop with the absurd plot armor?
bradleycarrington22 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Overall good episode. My biggest gripe, that completely took me out and ruined the episode for me was the turret scene when he was escaping. Like are you joking? A nearly point blank minigun misses every single shot and they escape unscathed? Is this the luckiest man and dog on the face of the earth? Or are the enclave turrets absolute garbage and should I treat the enclave as a joke? When things like this happen in shows and movies I no longer care. The stakes are gone because now the illusion is broken and its clear this character will be alive so long as the show creator wills it and absolutely nothing will be able to stop them.

MAKE PLOT ARMOR BELIEVABLE!

Script by a tween
Chef7417 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First thing first. The script feels like written by a 10-year old for other tweens. Poor little kid tried to write something in his little world.

The cinematography wasn't bad. Good use old junkyar stuff. Good example of recycle and reuse. Appreciate the cost reduction and environmentalism. It looked even good and funny until the 40 minute mark. Then came the terrible CGI again that reminds 90's video game graphics. Maybe that is their signature but they seems to have hired a teeneger CGI artist.

I would normally give 4 stars but extra one point each for Emerson and the dog. Although the dog quickly betrayed the guy who raised it.

Other stuff is as expected. The little chick still looking for her father with the make-up relics from a bygone civilization. The dude stealing the metal armor and acting quite stupid (supposed to be funny I guess). Well, of course the horse rider from the first episode came back as a bulletproof zombie? And the search for the father and the Moldover woman continues.

Animal suffering
carimyers14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you are sensitive to watching animal suffering/ testing/ training, skip the first five minutes. The first 30 seconds are the worst. If you must watch these first 30 seconds, at least mute it. That will help. What you're missing: Doggos are bred for security and only the strongest are kept.. The doctor/ scientist smuggles one dog out and raises him kindly, but he is discovered. When the intruder goes to pull the alarm to report this, the dog reacts to his human being pushed away and attacks the intruder, apparently killing him. Doggo and human run for it and barely escape. Now we're all on the edge of our seats watching for something else happen to our new hero.

Michael Rappaport Sucks
alaamerzeyad15 April 2024
Michael Rapaport's casting in the Fallout TV series was a jarring misstep that disrupted the immersive experience for viewers. With his distinctively modern and urban demeanor, Rapaport's presence clashed with the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout, undermining the credibility of the setting and the suspension of disbelief essential for a successful adaptation. His portrayal likely felt out of place and inconsistent with the gritty, retro-futuristic atmosphere characteristic of the Fallout universe, thus detracting from the overall immersion of the episode. This casting choice overlooked the need for actors who could seamlessly inhabit the world of Fallout, ultimately detracting from the show's potential to captivate audiences and faithfully translate the beloved video game series to the screen.

Ridiculous
joealbanese-5365821 April 2024
I thought I'd check out this series because of the great reviews even though I never played the game but after two episodes I'm done and I am a big fan of post apocalyptic shows but this was so ridiculous it couldn't keep my attention. The characters and premise are so un-serious I had no desire to invest my time with something as absurd as this idiotic show. Maybe this implausible world works as a game environment but it just didn't work for me. For me, for a show to work I have to believe that the characters act in a somewhat reasonable way even if they are in an absurd world but I don't get that sense in this series. The emotions of the characters don't match with what is going on. Ever. It's as if everyone is playing their parts with their tongues firmly planted in their cheek. Well, that was a waste of a couple hours.

Please listen to the comment warning about animal suffering
arxinvicta15 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I read the comment about animal suffering/cruelty further down and thought I watch it anyways. The first seconds of the episode contain puppies (!!) being thrown into an incinerator, yelping while they die.

Skip this, there is absolutely no need to.subject you to this kind of experience, it does not serve the story, it is not necessary for the plot, it's just disturbing for the sake of being disturbing.

The exceeding amount of violence in TV shows is bad enough but the very last thing I need to see is animal suffering as some kind of "shocking effect" in a TV show. The rest of the storyline was acceptable, hence I will not give the lowest possible amount of stars but Jesus Christ skip the first minutes of this.

F word city!
sja-awesome14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The best part is maximus carrying around the huge sack XD He's overcombered lol!

The acting seems good but they said the f word soooo many times in this episode there was barely any actual dialogue... It's sooooo trendy to swear, wow so edgy! And more excessive violence, boorringgg!

Idk why the ghoul guy is so evil. They portrayed him as a loving good father before the bomb. He killed the puppy.. Just why :( the dog couldn't die in the games for a reason! Boo to the creators. Somehow i still seem to like his character, not because he's good but because he's an interesting character you like to dislike. Maximus clearly has a luck build cuz he ain't got any intelligence points.
