Standard procedural cop show. Great to see Scott Caan back!
izabodiw9 January 2023
When I saw the trailer for this show, I thought maybe this would be a nice solid cop show. And this pilot is pretty much everything you'd expect. A familiar plot that explores familiar characters and ends on a note that leaves you curious about the next episode.

But the real star of the show is Scott Caan. I've always been invested in him as an actor from his work on Entourage to his awards nominated performance in Five 0, he brings good charm and works for this show's tone. I do have issues with the writing and down direction, but the concept and Caan are enough to make me want to watch the next episode.

Hit and miss

Warning: Spoilers
Ok so jumped on here to write a quick review. The ONLY reason this flagged my interest is because I am a huge Scott Caan fan. The start was really good, the background from his time in Afgahnistan was a good pitch and gave a wholesome image to his character. It took me a little while to understand the lead actress as her accent is so thick but after 20 minutes or so it is just about understandable. I liked the whole missing persons unit, there could be some potential with a few characters especially the geek in the lab. The first case is a little over the top and it is clear that they want a driven female lead, a little like NCIS Hawaii but it would make more sense for Scott Caan to take the lead role - he is just more believable as a character. So that is the 7 good stars now for the 3 missing stars.... The supporting actors - it just looks like the producers have just tried to tick every race card box instead of looking at their acting abilities, I understand the whole equality thing but make sure they can act. Also their son just happening to turn up after 6 years is super far fetched and they should have given either a shorter period of time missing or made the kid older when he dissapeared. Would have made more sense if the kid showed up end of season 1 when they could have built up more of a story line. Obviously the kid is not their kid - that is clear from the get go. Also what I did not understand was the whole "He is in Vegas" thing. The show is based in Philly and they just happen to arrive in Vegas and have just missed him? Oh and the whole "I know what room he is in, because of the mountains" is impossible to have known. So good start but not convinced that this will get to season 2 if the writing for the first episode is anything to go by.

Summary: Wait to see if renewed before investing your time.

Hopefully one good thing will come out of this show

........that is attention paid to missing kids, and YES, even those that run away.

Now for the review. Not great so far. Not sure why anyone found Scott Caan's return to TV as a high point but whatever. I challenge anyone to watch clips of Caan from Entourage, Hawaii-50, and this show, aside from him ditching overtailored dress shirts, it's the same character. In other words, shallow acting.

Writing needs to get better. Too many cop cliches. There's the boss dating a direct subordinate and him even proposing in front of the entire unit. He did state he checked with HR though, I guess it's all OK. Any HR professionals want to weigh in on that one? Then we have the required quirky characters. We have the droll introvert who dwells in the basement and the character who conducts rituals in the office (2 or 3 cultural extracts so far). Hey, she's quirky so it's all also OK. She's also the one who will look at something like a video and render incredible and accurate results almost immediately even when that entails reaching out to experts in various fields.

Putrid pilot
nicmegara12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Probably one of the worst pilots I have ever seen! Sooo many things wrong with this I don't know where to start!

The show moves to fast for standard pilot "introduction" episode! Let's start with the beginning scene with the main character trying to diffuse a bomb. Wasn't a bad opening except for when he gets the girl off and they run with the bomb about to explode apparently they had 5 minutes to run bc they ended up like a 1/4 mile from the site lol. And then they spring on us his kid gets kidnapped. Ok fine im interested! But then they fast forward SIX YEARS! Um what?! Six years ?! WTH?! Who the heck fast forwards 6 years?! Answer: Nobody! And there's a reason why not! ... anyway, let's look past all that and see what six years has brought us...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING apparently lol. At this point the only thing we know is that the main character has a wife and six years later they are exes lol.

I get a new show going for wow factor to get off to a fast start but they just didn't do it right!

So from there it was all downhill!

The casting is just as horrible. Scott Caan is the only reason I was interested in this show. Nobody else however could pick up the slack . They tried too hard to be "inclusive" and it cost them big time. The writing didn't help matters along with the dialogue!

Dania Ramirez is absolutely amazing
marriedwchildrenpodcast12 January 2023
Excellent first episode ! There isn't a full moment. Paced and edited really well! Great performances by Dania and Scott, they have great chemistry together. Not since Ben and J Lo have I seen such a chemistry.

I never thought I'd really want to see a show about missing kids but they know how to play it so that it's not what you would imagine the experience to be.

All the characters already look so comfortable in their roles. I can't imagine how good they will be 10 episodes from now. On a side note, I don't trust this Keith kid one bit lol Something is fishy about the whole situation.

BTW Dania is still a 10 just like when she was on Devious Maids. That girl is perfection. Bevland is one lucky dude.

Slow start
ajdeadlift12 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The background is amazing, Scott Caan in the Sandbox then his son is taken and we jump a couple of years.

At the end of the first episode we get the son back without actually struggling to hard. There is a real Homeland angle in this, how it will play out we dont know yet.

There is their catchphrase which is dropped a bit to much, no real focus on the family of the abductee, which makes it hard to belive.

All in in all a average start into the show, that feeds one to many cliches for me but i understand that i can appeal to a broad audience. The mystery surrounding the son is the best part yet.
