So the big Emmys don't air until next Sunday night and at Moviefone we will have, of course, full coverage. But last night the Creative Arts Emmys were handed out, for the people that are largely responsible for making these shows that you absolutely love -- you know, the behind-the-scenes talent tasked with conceptualizing and realizing your favorite programs. Oh -- and some guest actor and actresses awards were handed out, so there's that too!
In the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category Uzo Aduba took home the prize for "Orange is the New Black." Since we are, very shamefully, one of a handful of Americans who hasn't seen a single second of "Orange in the New Black," this doesn't mean a whole lot to us, but we are very happy for her! The first round of 2014 Emmy Awards were handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday (August 16) night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The ceremony, which precedes the Monday, August 25 Primetime Emmy Awards telecast, offered signs of hope for a number of drama and comedy hopefuls. Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black," for example, won Emmys for editing, series casting and for Uzo Aduba, who is considered a guest actress for the purposes of these awards. No other comedy series was able to build any other momentum going into next week's show, with "The Big Bang Bang Theory," "Nurse Jackie," "How I Met Your Mother" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" grabbing isolated tech prizes and Jimmy Fallon winning the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series award for the second time in three years for his "Saturday Night Live" hosting duties. The two guest acting awards on the drama side...

While all the focus has been on the Emmy battles between A-listers like Bryan Cranston vs. Matthew McConaughey and Julia Roberts vs. Kathy Bates, a slew of other stars picked up nominations. However, these came in categories that receive less fanfare, most of which will be presented at the Creative Arts Emmys nine days before the primetime telecast on August 25. -Break- Top 10 biggest Emmy nominations jaw-droppers: Ricky Gervais, Lena Headey ... There’ll be plenty of time to celebrate what the Emmys got right (see the full list of nominees here) and to argue about what they got wrong—but this is not the place for that. Instead, we’re taking a step back to discuss weird bits of trivia about the award show’s less starry categories. You know, the stuff that’s really important. Such as:
– “Twin Bed” got an Emmy nomination: Yes, the SNL tune officially known as “Home for the Holidays (Twin Bed)” is competing against Key & Peele’s take on Les Mis, “Merroway Cove” from Disney Channel...

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards went off without a hitch earlier this evening (February 22) with "12 Years a Slave" continuing to make waves snagging the biggest prize of the night.
Before her film won Outstanding Motion Picture, the gorgeous Lupita Nyong'o added another piece of hardware to her already impressive collection taking home a trophy for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, while Kerry Washington snagged up her second Image Award with a win for Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. Kerry's show "Scandal" also won Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, the hilarious Kevin Hart took home Entertainer of the Year, while Oprah Winfrey paid tribute to the late Nelson Mandela with a touching speech and musical dedication.
"He was everything we have all have heard and more. He was humble and he was unscathed by any kind of bitterness after all that we know he's been through," Winfrey said.

Christian Vincent's "Haute Cuisine" and Morgan Neville's "Twenty Feet From Stardom" were the big winners last night as the Provincetown International Film Festival concluded during an open-air block party by doling out prizes to the audience award winners. "Haute Cuisine," the story of Daniele Delpeuch, who was the private chef to French President Francois Mitterrant was named best narrative feature, while "Twenty Feet," which is currently playing in select theaters, won best documentary feature. Other winners included Whoopi Goldberg, awarded the John Schlesinger Award given to a first-time documentary or narrative feature filmmaker for her debut "Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' To Tell You," and Marnie Crawford Samuelson, whose "Selina Trieff Will Not Stop" won best short film. Earlier over the weekend, renown cinematographer Ed Lachman ("Far From Heaven") accepted the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award, and Harmony Korine was on hand to receive the Filmmaker on the Edge.

Whoopi Goldberg recently made her directorial debut at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. Her groundbreaking documentary, "I Got Somethin' To Tell You," is about the life of African-American and openly lesbian stand-up comic Moms Mabley, born Loretta Mary Aiken.
The North Carolina-born comedian graced stages such as New York City's Apollo Theatre and Carnegie Hall with her quirky acts touching on racism and romance between the 1920s and 1960s. Mabley came out in her late twenties and often made her sexuality a part of her routines.
She appeared in the 1933 film "The Emperor Jones" alongside Paul Robeson, which was inducted into the Library Of Congress' National Film Registry Library in 1999. Her wardrobe in the film was markedly androgynous, an unusual sight on a woman in the 1930s.
She was also referenced in the 1995 queer favorite "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar," starring Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo.

With the Tribeca Film Festival under way in New York, HBO has snapped up U.S. broadcast and home video rights to one of the selected docs. Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin' to Tell You, Whoopi Goldberg's directorial debut, will see its premiere on the cable network later this year. The doc feature follows the life and lasting influence of Jackie “Moms” Mabley, the late African-American comedian. “Moms Mabley has been a huge inspiration to me and so many others, but not a lot of folks outside of the comedy world know about her legacy,” Goldberg said in the network's

Goldberg had been working on a documentary feature on the life of pioneering comedian Moms Mabley for at least 3 years, and it looks like she's reached the tail-end of its journey, as it's been announced this afternoon that the film will make its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in NYC, this spring. Celebrities using Kickstarter to raise money for a venture is nothing new. "Napoleon Dynamite" star Jon Heder, author Neil Gaiman and musician Amanda Palmer have all done it. But when Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg launched her own crowdfunding campaign yesterday to help fund her directorial debut "I Got Somethin' To Tell You," you can bet more than a few folks' eyebrows were raised. Goldberg is hoping to make her Kickstarter goal of $65,000 to finish producing her documentary on one of her role models, legendary stand-up comedian Moms Mabley (born Loretta Mary Aiken), who rose to national recognition in the 1960s. Mabley, who passed away at the age of 81 in 1975, has over 20 comedy records to her name and performed everywhere from Harlem's Apollo Theater to Carnegie Hall. As Goldberg says in her Kickstarter pitch, "Moms was the first and without her there probably would not have been a Totie, a Joan,...

Whoopi has set up a Kickstarter page for the project (titled I Got Somethin' To Tell You), asking fans to help her fund the project. How much does she need? $65,000. A quote from Whoopi from the campaign: "Moms Mabley was a pioneer in the comedy world and this documentary will showcase her talent and pay homage to a woman who is still...
